PCutter 127 June 13, 2019 Share June 13, 2019 For a s how that advocates love and friendship there are 2 things: Has the show instead brought out the worst in people? And how has the worst completely eclipsed the best of people watching or at least hearing of it?
Misty Shadow 8,201 June 13, 2019 Share June 13, 2019 A children's show that teaches the importance of love and friendship is not capable of "bringing out the worst in people". The people in this fandom who have said and done terrible stuff have done so completely out of their own volition, not because they were inspired by a pony show.
Jeric 46,884 June 13, 2019 Share June 13, 2019 Media and art can inform and change perspectives, but don’t forget that the personal foundation it builds on is an important element too. As far as what FiM does to others .... I can only speak to myself? Has the show changed me? Not in any fundamental way, no. Through the show I met many people I otherwise wouldn’t have. Through them I’ve experienced moments that have made a difference in profound and nuanced ways. The show was a vehicle for that, but the people were the cause. To me that has more to do with the opportunity that something presents, like a venue that you meet a new friend or future spouse at. The venue didn’t change you, but the experiences that serendipity offered may have. There is this phenomenon I see often online, whether her or in other sites that focus around a specific interest. People will often attribute more that what is earned or deserved to something nebulous. The peddling of filter driven pop-philosophy is rampant among the internet, I suppose. Then when evidence comes forth in opposition to the assertion that x has changed or not change people, the peddlers dig in as if their worldview is tied up in being correct about the impact of a book, video game, cartoon, etc. So I’m not calling balderdash on this. Instead I’ll just say that I can’t in good conscious say that this show impacted my personality or how I approach people in any meaningful way, good or bad. I can’t give the show credit for what actual living breathing people have done, or what I have done on my own. Good or bad. Maybe it’s just me though
MangoFoalix 25,058 June 13, 2019 Share June 13, 2019 No, the show didn't bring the worst out in people. Those people were already awful to begin with, they now just had a community that they could harass and troll people with.
Gestum 2,493 June 14, 2019 Share June 14, 2019 I doubt that it brought out anyones best. It's a god damn show for seven year old girls for crying out loud.
PCutter 127 June 16, 2019 Author Share June 16, 2019 Then how do you explain something like Flutter Brutter being universally panned because the majority of people who saw it because they saw themselves as "unemployed losers who will never find work" and that the show is just rubbing the failure in their faces
Lord Midnight Madness 1,544 June 16, 2019 Share June 16, 2019 The whole community has been drug through the ringer with all the sickos and pervs but there is still a lot of good guys and gals in this fandom. I think the show hasn't because people are sick and perverted in general not because of a show. 2 By @Fangirl Mode

Maybe it’s just me though @JericThis is very wise, and completely in line of my own thoughts. I'm old enough to have fought life long before FIM, so the impact is not that big. It's fun, it make's me enjoy art and make music, to meet friends. But I will not make me as a person different.
Cash In 23,132 July 9, 2019 Share July 9, 2019 (edited) I don't think that the show itself would have negatively strired up a person to the point where it would bring out the worst in them. Things like that happen on one's own accord. Edited October 16, 2020 by Cash In 1 At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do. Zephyr Breeze finally managed to complete his Mane Therapy training and had more confidence. The episode wasn't calling us losers. It was saying that sometimes you have to do things even though you might fail. And even though failing can feel like the worst thing, quitting doesn't help either. Just give it your bath and you can improve yourself. That was what the episode was all about. Heck I can call this episode the second most relatable episode to me. Thanks to this episode, I was finally able to graduate University.
