Every episode up to Yak is great, and the worst is better than past seasons’ most average ones like Cutie Pox or Look Before You Sleep.

The first half of S9 was better than the second; many of the season's worst episodes occur there. Grogar being Discord in disguise to "aid Twilight's confidence" is one of the worst moments of the show. Yet, even though Rainbow Dash's petulance and Twilight's artificial lesson to Dash really soured Greaaat, it's nowhere nearly as insufferable as, say, Mare Do Well, Complete Crap Clause, Newbie Dash, or Owl's Well. Season 9 has a ton of highs outside of The (Excellent) Last Problem, from the hilarious and adorable BMQ to the CMCs, Scoot's aunts, and Ponyville successfully convincing her parents to let their daughter stay home to Rarity having her best episode of the entire series. On top of that, it's the most consistently good season, improving from Seasons 8 & 7. BMQ, TLC, Sparkle's Seven, and Last Problem are among the all-timers of this series.

It's a smaller downgrade from 8, but it's better than 7 and belongs as one of FIM's best seasons.

Overall it was one of my favorite seasons, the big episodes certainly delivered and there were many great regular episodes as well.

To be honest, this is one of my least favorite seasons in the show. After my top five, the rest of the episodes this season range from average to downright bad. Considering that this was the final season of the show, it's unfortunate it felt so lackluster overall.
