Celestia & Sombra Forbidden Love and a Good FIM mini saga

I finally had the chance to read the IDW issues of this love story and the paradox surrounding it.  I seriously hope Hasbro has something similar in mind much like how they tied Sunset's Backstage Pass to the Starswirl Do-over.

If they set it millennia before FIM, perhaps when Celestia comes into power, it would be a great backstory for her and Sombra.  In the end of the comic, Sombra sacrificed himself out of true love for Celestia, saving her and Luna (not to mention the Mane 6).  Given the timeline in my thought, the Mane 6 wouldn't exist yet.

However, since many of us know what happened to Sombra in S9E1 and E2, in theory, he could be reformed if they emphasized a past relationship and love with Celestia, and how it can be exploited to make Sombra a powerful Ally against Grogar and his cadre. It could lead up to a final battle of biblical proportion, and the ultimate defeat of evil to restore Harmony.  Of course, as a hat tip to IDW have a reformed Sombra admit his true love for Celestia based on their past hidden from every pony to prevent any shame on Celestia...

Anywho... Just thinking out loud. Some of the images are very powerful in the comics, despite taking place in an alternate universe and a very familiar journey 'through a mirror'.

The Sombra from this comic as far as I'm aware is/was an alternate universe double, who Celestia visited through a mirror similar to the one in EG. Everything in that world was literally flipped like a mirror (bad characters are good, good characters are bad). He took all the darkness from the sisters in that world on himself, and is unfortunately unrelated to the prime universe Sombra

What you describe in this paragraph is impossible IIRC

What Lektra Bolt said, the fact that the King Sombra from the show

Spoiler

gets resurrected and reformed

in the comics following that proves there is no correlation between the two and that the comics are their own universe separate from the show. For a less spoiler-y example, Mage Meadowbrook is dead in the main series of the comics despite being alive and well in the show.

As I'd always thought, the MLP comics are soft canon and an addendum to the show. Kinda like some video games have a comic, videos, book, or Manga with additional back story. There are MLP comics that tell the history of certain characters, like the villains. They are add-ons to the show, but not being informed on them doesn't negatively impact enjoyment of the show

These kinds of things are canon to the main material (FIM in this case) for as long as the main material doesn't directly retcon or outright contradict them ;)

The information in FIM Sombra being reformed comic has been both contradicted and subjected to a retcon in such a fashion :adorkable:

But yeah!

That would be quite interesting. I would prefer the ending to involve Celestia turning out to be a villain all along or being corrupted, and then being banished. I don't want a real happy ending, I want there to be some darkness, since not everything ends with a happy ending.

Being that I wrote the first post late last night, I don't think I gave enough context about what I had in mind.  I suppose I could write a fanfic about it (I've written one for the Halo saga in the past) since most likely Hasbro is going to leave Sombra dead.

While it's not entirely impossible for this to happen, I cobbled a quick timeline on how this could wind up. It would be inspired by the comic but not follow it verbatim:

Past:

- Celestia and Sombra grew up together/ were classmates.

- In adolescence, Sombra falls in love with Celestia and admits it. The two begin a romantic relationship.

- While learning new spells, Sombra and Celestia enchant a mirror, creating a dimensional rift to another world (the opposite world).  Sombra decides to investigate himself, and returns corrupted, perhaps even swapped.

- Due to the incident, Sombra becomes hostile to Celestia, breaking her heart.  He then concocts a plan to take the Crystal Empire, leading up to the present events in FIM.

- Celestia reverses the spell on the mirror, disabling the portal. She hides the mirror in her room (after all we haven't seen Celestia's private quarters in the show).

Future (post S9?)

- Twilight notices Celestia acting strange one day, and overhears her crying in her room. The day is an anniversary day of when Sombra admitted his love for her. Everyy year for over a millenia she cries on this day in rememberance.

- Celestia comes clean to the Mane 7 (now including Starlight) that she knew Sombra on a deeper level but hid it from them out of fear of embarrassment and disappointment.

- The hidden mirror is reactivated as the enchantment was never fixed, but suppressed by Celestia's spell as her heartbreak restricted the magnitude of her magic.  The mirror's power feeds off the guilt, sadness, and anger from the ponies due to the enchantment.

- The 6 elements of harmony cannot close the portal.  It is revealed that a 7th harmony element is missing in Equestria and lies in another dimension (Sunset Shimmer's.)

- Later in the story, it's discovered the Sombra that came back in the past was actually the evil Sombra switching places while the good one is tortured by Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon in the mirror world.

- The mirror is revealed to have corrupted Luna in Equestria into becoming Nightmare Moon, making her jealous of her older sister, setting up the story told in S1E1.  Like the leaks of Equestrian magic into the human world, the mirror leaks dark magic and evil into Equestria.

- The mirror must be destroyed on the other side with all 7 elements of Harmony in order to stop the dark magic from flowing in. The Mane 6 are tasked with the mission, with Celestia and Luna coming out of retirement as escorts to them.

- Minor characters from FIM will have involvement and perhaps an unsung hero will have her time to shine but at a cost.

I'll think about this more but as you can see, it would pan out into a fairly decent saga.

More like canon only if the main show runners feel like it. In Sombra's case, Show Sombra dies again as a very egotistical guy. So point for you.

Taking the comics out of this one. Only contribution they make is an inspiring love story that can take place a year or 2 after Season 9.   Celestia and Luna are retired, and still live in Canterlot, but Celestia still holds a torch for him in their past life together.

I'll be doing the fim fiction as soon as i set an account up there.

That because Starswirl don't want Celestia go to mirror world together with Sombra and mane 6 together with Celestia is fail to save him but until now Sombra is still alive because he is in the other place and that place is far away that is why he never seem again.

Regardless if the comics are canon or not, when they tried it a lot of people ended up disliking it, so much that I don't see either the show or the comics taking a second crack at it

He suffered the same fate as Luke Skywalker.

Thanks, DHX.

I don't really like this particular ship, it basically comes to Celestia only likes Sombra because he is a good guy in that universe, pretty sure this would make me gag if this would make into a show canon

My opinion Celestia and mirror Sombra is not a forbidden love but they look like Princess Twilight and human Flash Sentry in the different dimension. Maybe in the season 9 Celestia is lony just trust to Luna,Twilight and Starswirl so this is why they didn't save Sombra in that situation because Celestia has a fear about him in the past.
