Pretty much, yes. Also it's somewhat encouraged here, the only one I've found that does, so...why not?

Would you rather have people making new threads when they need to talk about their soviet cassette collection? If not, then explain your reasoning behind this "curiosity". Other than trying to effect thread lockdowns and general user disempowerment under the pretext of a communitarian concern, like a true commie would do!

But really. This is like trying to dig for a problem where there is none. So, that image perfectly exemplifies the nature of your thread. At least, in my humble opinion.

Oh GAWD I remember spending HOURS doing that.

But yeah; I've been on PLENTY of forums that either discouraged or outright banned reviving old topics to the point of banning you from said forums. I am SO glad that MLPF does not do that as it encourages discourse on any topic; old and new.

At best I would say to only discourage it if the new post doesn't have as much effort behind it.

But yeah worst example I've seen was a Detective Conan Proboard forum where even if an old thread was still on the first page, it was still policy to start a new thread entirely for said topic.

As the author of this thread said, “This site seems to have quite a bit of reviving old threads,” but clearly that means there are quite a few people here who are interested in them and want to continue posting on them. I don’t understand the pointless discouragement of necro-posting; if there’s still an interest in them, keep ‘em going! I don’t discard everything that’s old when there’s still life in them. Sometimes you want to revisit them and see what new perspective time may have on these old threads. And newer members might appreciate the chance to chime-in. I love old threads; some of them are familiar and some I never saw before. In any case, it’s always interesting to revisit them.
