People with a God complex think that they have divine, God-like powers and are above all mankind. They believe that they are capable enough to take extreme risks and shun the rules of society.

1. Sense of entitlement As these people consider themselves to be special, they always expect to receive favorable treatment when compared to those around them. They believe that they should always get what they want and expect others to comply with their wishes and demands. If you claim to be unable to meet their needs, they will deem you as useless. They also do not take such responses lightly and will use aggression to call you out for your incompetence

this does fit king sombra  seeing that his heart is as black as night

2. Grandiose sense of self-importance This trait is characterized by an unrealistic sense of superiority where the individual believes that they are special and unique; thus, they can only relate and be understood by similar people. As they claim to be above average, they desire to be associated with people, things, and places that have high status. They believe to be better than everyone else and expect to be recognized for this, even without doing anything significant. They are also known to exaggerate their talents and achievements. When talking about relationships, they rant about how much they contribute without mentioning the impact of any other party involved. They claim to be a great friend, partner, family member, or business associate and consider the people in their lives lucky to have them.

well probably sombra might have an Grandiose sense of self importance

3. Exploitation of others These kinds of people lack the ability to identify with others. In other terms, they lack empathy and cannot put themselves in another person’s shoes to try and understand them. This is because they view others as objects to serve their needs. Therefore, they take advantage of others whenever they need something said or done without caring how it will affect them. Generally, they do not care how their behavior affects those around them. If you try to point it out, they will not understand as they only care about their needs and how they benefit from any situation.

king sombra  well he only care about himself

4. Living in a world of fantasy As reality does not support their grandiose view of themselves, they live in a fantasy world that is characterized by magical thinking, distortion, and self-deception. To make them feel like they are in control and unique from within, they spin self-glorifying fantasies of attractiveness, power, ideal love, success, and brilliance. These fantasies are meant to protect them from feeling empty and shame. Therefore, any facts and opinions brought up contradicting their fantasy are dismissed. Any comments or opinions that threaten to burst their fantasy bubble can be met with rage or extreme defensiveness. Therefore, those around such individuals learn to be careful about how they address issues with them as a result of their denial of reality.

Probably sombra know about Reality

5. Demeaning, bullying, intimidating and belittling others

When they meet people who appear to have something they lack, they tend to feel threatened. They do not like to feel challenged, especially by individuals that are quite popular or seem confident. Therefore, they neutralize the threat by trying to bring the threat down. This can be done by dismissing their opinions or even ignoring their presence. Sometimes, they go to the extend of insulting, bullying, or even using threats.

King sombra might feel Threatened and would try to destroy the theat

6. Need for constant praise and admiration To keep them feeling like a god, these individuals need their ego fed. They try to surround themselves with those that constantly compliment them as they crave for affirmations at all times. As these relationships are often one-sided and most times, they never last for long. If the attention of the admirer is diverted, interrupted, or diminishes, the admired sees it as a betrayal.

King sombra does kind of want praise and admiration

Hard to say. Unfortunately we never find out for sure what his motivation is. There's very little insight into his character. By the time we get to talk with him at depth, it's all about revenge. Did he just want to run everything, or did he have an "end justifies the means" mentality with some grand vision for a (at least in his eyes) better society?

Besides, I'm pretty sure this all fits Cozyglow too, but funnily enough, I don't see her as someone who has a God complex. Maybe it's because she was trying to get power? She knew she was almost powerless, and was doing whatever she needed to get the power she craved.

Sombra on the other hand, isn't as delusional as your typical "god complex" individual, because almost IS at god-levels of power. It originally took the combined effort of two Alicorns to bring him down. That's nothing to scoff at. Then he came back and conquered the Crystal Empire, got Cadence's surrender without even having to fire a shot, and then out-foxed Twilight, slayed the freaking Tree of Harmony and shattered the element talismans. His eventual downfall was not knowing the Elements could be wielded without the Tree's power feeding into it, but then NO creature knew that yet, so can he really be blamed for it? Sombra is still quite probably the most competent villain in the whole series, with Lord Tirek coming a close second.

No, his character in the show isn't meant to have such complexity. I wish. :maud: None of those traits are unique to his character in the show, and his character in the comics definitely does not have a god complex, feeling he had no choice but to be a monster.

No, he was just an arrogant narcissist. Like many a villain that you aren't meant to identify with.

delusional villain: Delusional villains are characterized by or holding beliefs or impressions that they are good people regardless of their acts.

Delusional villains are similar to Vigilantes, Extremists, Anti-Villains and Grey Zone Villains, and in some cases even overlap with them. However, the main difference is that these villains have lied to themselves into believing that their acts are righteous, even if the causes they are pushing are nothing close to noble from the perspective to anyone but themselves.

These villains also believe that whoever disagrees with or opposes them is a bad person. Therefore, many of them are very paranoid and pay little to no attention to the opinions of others. These villains may be greedy or hypocritical, but cannot even see it. Worse, some of them tend to blame other people for the destruction they cause (especially those who oppose them) while, in reality, it was their fault (e.g. Koba, John Ratcliffe, Shiro, Bradford Buzzard, Dawn Bellwether, General Lunaris, King Runeard and Slagar the Cruel).

The scope of these villains' delusion can range from being a relatively minor trait (usually just simply believing they are doing good and not fanatical about it) to dangerously extreme to the point of mental illness (such as villains who are extremely outspoken that what they are doing is right and there is absolutely no chance to convince them otherwise).

Delusional villains can also be nihilists who do not believe in good or evil, thereby justifying their own heinous actions with their twisted logic. The best examples of this would be Gaku Yashiro, Isaac Ray Peram Westcott, Douma, Eurus Holmes, and Ultraman Tregear. Xenophobes/genocidal villains who believe a certain/some foreign races to be "evil" can also count as delusional (e.g. Count Bleck's Father, Judge Claude Frollo and Hody Jones); the same thing with Misanthropes, who think humanity itself, whether an individual is truly innocent or not, is evil and should be punished (e.g. the Crusader and Alan Jonah). Social Darwinists can use their twisted philosophy to justify oppression of the weak instead of helping them (e.g. Albert Wesker and General Mandible). There are also robots/artificially intelligent beings who are much more commonly known to be delusional and misanthropic towards human life as they view them as "irredeemable" and "flawed", and see their acts as noble goals by enslaving them (e.g. PAMA) or wiping them out (e.g. Ares).

However, in the uncommon case where a certain delusional villain truly wants to do good, that can be a redeeming quality and a Messiah and/or Pure Good can aid in redemption. Through that can the villain truly see and accept their mistakes and then choose true righteousness over their delusional one (e.g. Satsuki Kiryūin).

protective villain:

Villains who are the opposite of what many expect from an antagonistic "boss"; they genuinely care for another being. Whether it be paternal/maternal, romantic, or simply a "matter of principle", these villains will not only treat their minions well, but often go into a rage when their minions are threatened or harmed and they are willing to go out of their way to save them at their own risks.

Sometimes, this can be because the minions are relations to the villain, the villain's lovers, friends, or (as mentioned above) the villain genuinely values those who aid them.

IMPORTANT: Pure Evil villains can NEVER be added to this category, because they do not care about the well-being or safety of anyone (except for themselves). Even if in some cases, they seemingly show care to someone, it is only because they have interests behind or for convenience; furthermore, they are not willing to save others lives by altruism because they lack empathy. (e.g. Lord Voldemort cared about Nagini only because she was one of his horcruxes; otherwise he would have killed her, Blackbeard cared about Angelica only because she was helping him reach the Fountain of Youth to save his own skin, Ego cared about Quill only because he had the Celestial genes so he can help him to realize the Expansion unlike all others kids of the Celestial who ended up killed, Judge Claude Frollo cared about Quasimodo only because of his fear of God's wrath and he could still be useful to him; otherwise he would have dropped him down the well, Mysterio saved Peter and his friends only because it would boost his own ego and fame; plus his actions led getting Peter and his friends endangered in the first place, Koba cared for the Ape coloney only because they would be loyal servants to him in his war against the humans, the Saxon Master only cared for his Missy incarnation because she was his future self and still killed her when he didn't like the person he would become, and Boris the Animal only spared his past self because he cared for his own safety).

However, despite the fact a genuinely protective villain is never purely evil, some of them can still be psychopaths if their protectiveness towards certain people doesn't contradict their lack of empathy toward everyone else (e.g. Jack Welker, Rumpelstiltskin, Randall, Tommy DeVito, Alexia Ashford, William Birkin, Professor Ratigan, Castor Troy, Agamemnon, Aaron the Moor and Lyustifer Safin). On the other hand, it can be a redeeming quality to some villains if they are willling to change for the person they're protective of (e.g. Ken, Beast, Heinz Doofenshmirtz, Loki Laufeyson , Nebula and Yondu Udanta).

tragic villain:

Villains who although acting for evil, selfish or unethical goals have understandable and traumatic reasons that serve as a Freudian excuse, mitigating factor and/or redeeming quality for their motives and purposes; hence audiences can sympathize and connect with them on a human level. Most are not in full control of themselves due to being evil not by choice but instead being victims of forces beyond their control. This also applies to Organizations and/or Hostile Species whose members are driven by tragedies.

Villains who are tragic or sympathetic often suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder or PTSD, become Delusional, Insecure and/or Egotists because their experiences twist them towards insanity; many of them can also be Fallen Heroes and/or Vengeful, if not both. Some may even become Addicts because of their traumatic experiences.

honorable villain:  This is a type of villain who (while they fight on the side of evil) still has at least some honorable traits. As such, they usually treat their foes and minions with respect and demonstrate some extent of mercy or fair play regardless of the outcome. They usually do not resort cheating to win, they may avoid fighting people that are weaker, they may suppress their own power and they may keep their end of a bargain that they promise to keep if they lose or if the hero does something they ask. However, some of these villains have their own version of honor that would clash with others'.

Numerous times, these traits often result in the villain redeeming themselves. Many Honorable characters have a common theme of finding a "worthy opponent" and thus want the hero they fight to be strong or get stronger.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Pure Evil villains can NEVER qualify as they are never presented in a positive way. The "honor" they show is only due to their good manners and not out of genuine respect. That said, there are examples of Pure Evil villains who used to be honorable before shedding their nobler traits overtime. If, so they should go under the Faux Affably Evil, Sophisticated, Lawful Evil, Deal Makers and/or Enforcer categories instead (e.g. Demise, Joker, Emperor Palpatine, Frieza, Judge Claude Frollo, Drago Bludvist, King Boo, Andross, Griffith, Shang Tsung, Utrom Shredder, and Koba), the same applies to villains whose "honor" they show is only out of their own self-serving needs and not out of genuine respect, even if they are not Pure Evil (e.g. Ercole Visconti).

insecure villain:

These villains aren't necessarily actually evil, as much as they lash out to assert themselves and find their place. They are similar to the tragic villains, but the defining characteristics of an insecure villain is that they are lying to both themselves and others. Alternatively they might act in a deranged and/or homicidal manner due to severe pain inflicted upon them and can sometimes be victims of abuse or neglect (e.g. Crona, Spinel, Kylo Ren and The Phantom). Furthermore, not all insecure villains are tragic in nature. Some use their lack of confidence as an excuse to lash out or make themselves look like more of a victim than they are. The same applies to villains who bring any poor treatment they experience onto themselves.

Usually, these villains just need those who understand them or acceptance, yet it is also common for insecure villains to be too far gone and too absorbed in their own troubles to want or accept help. In some cases, they can be psychopaths if their insecurities prevent them from feeling genuine empathy for others (e.g. Charlie Walker, Randall Boggs, Eric Cartman, Prince Hans, Penguin, Montgomery de la Cruz, Pitch Black, Tighten and Turbo).

Ironically, many also qualify as arrogant and/or egotistical as they often delude themselves into thinking that they deserve more respect. These villains suffer from a superiority complex where they feign grandeur and self-righteousness to hide their flaws from others and themselves (e.g. Yokai, Tai Lung, Prince Charming, Kuja, Darth Vader, Count Bleck, Bryce Walker, Nuka, Dracula, Lord Shen, Rob, Eustace Bagge and Megamind).

in love villain:

his category is for all of the villains who fall in love with someone special in his/her life, whether is the main protagonist/hero, a superhero, a neutral good character, a true neutral character, or another villain. The other character DOES NOT have to return the affection for the villain to qualify.

Some villains who fell in love can be redeemed, such as Megamind and Professor Bedlam.

A Pure Evil can never be added at this category as they can't feel genuine love (except for themselves), only perversion or obsessiveness (Judge Claude Frollo was obsessed with Esmerelda in a perverted way, and Steele was simply perverted).

They can use this at his/her advantage as a petty excuse to use that person who fall in love with them to do everything they want (even murder innocent people and/or children or, worse, kill millions of civilians) and they corrupt that person into becoming in that monster, like the mainstream Joker who often abuses Harley Quinn and uses her as nothing but a tool.
Others can use to traumatize that specific character into becoming something that they are not (technically they can become tragic villains), like Zoom did to Caitlin Snow from Earth-2 which later become in Killer Frost, and later this same with his counterpart from Earth-1.
Otherwise, villains who pretend falling in love with someone (usually for greedy reasons) or possessive egotists should not be added here (e.g. Gaston LeGume and Biff Tannen), even if they're not pure e

or affable villain:

Villains who are genuinely polite and friendly in spite of being villains. They will frequently both speak and act in an extremely polite and thoughtful manner even to the heroes they face (though some of them may be two-sided about it and might occasionally provoke or insult them during a fight, though that is a rare sight for them) and their friendly and considerate nature often comes as a surprise to both those heroes and possibly also the viewer. That said, they are still capable of losing their temper and will sometimes (temporarily) shed their polite nature if faced with defeat. Only true Affably Evil villains will regain (and retain) their polite nature after facing their defeat and will more likely than not, respect the hero even more.

Since politeness is a redeeming trait, it is not uncommon for affably evil villains to be redeemed, or at least have the potential for redemption.

To be genuinely Affably Evil, the following criteria must be met:

The affable nature is not an obvious façade that the villain is only maintaining to manipulate others. Affably Evil villains really ARE that nice or at the very least, have good manners. Some Affably Evil villains are so nice that they would be good if not for their evil deeds and act like normal people when not on the clock.
There is a difference between Affably Evil and Faux Affably Evil villains. The latter is a villain who usually sounds or pretends to be polite but would clearly throw you in front of a bus without a second thought (e.g. Commander Rourke, Ego, Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear, Scar, Joker, Ernesto de la Cruz, Mysterio, Judge Claude Frollo and Dawn Bellwether). For a villain to be Affably Evil, they must not be that heedless to the lives and well-being of others, and their niceness can redeem them. Android 16, Ty Lee, and Gabby Gabby are examples. That said, it is possible for an Affably Evil villain to become Faux Affably Evil overtime and vice versa. Good examples are RPK-16, Dutch van der Linde, Count Dooku, Darth Vader, Dr. Nefarious, Gustavo Fring and Walter White.
Affably Evil villains have lines they would never cross. A Faux Affably Evil villain could easily act polite, but still blow up planets or kill children as a lifestyle (e.g. Dr. Eggman Nega, Sebastian Shaw, Lord Cutler Beckett, Johan Liebert, Goku Black, It, Syndrome and Judge Holden). However, it is quite possible for a genocidal villain, a Harbinger for Rebirth, a cataclysmic or even a Chaotic Evil villain to be Affably Evil only if they have such standards and/or lines they are not willing to cross or if they do have good intentions (e.g. Thanos, Count Bleck, Bowser, Raul Menendez, Joker (2019), Accelerator, Professor Gerald Robotnik and Eren Yeager).
IMPORTANT NOTE: Pure Evil villains can NEVER qualify, because these villains are not genuinely polite or friendly to anyone, as this counts as a redeeming quality and would present the villain in a positive way, whereas Pure Evil villains are always selfish, hateful, uncaring, hostile and irredeemable. However, a Pure Evil villain can be (and is very often) Faux Affably Evil. Similarly, Pure Evil villains can also be Sophisticated and/or Friend of a Hero if they were once true friends of the hero in the past. That said, there are several examples of Pure Evil villains who used to be genuinely polite before becoming worse over time.

god wannabe

A type of villain frequently found in media; these villains, as the name suggests, seek to become a deity, if not God himself. It is usually a powerful and megalomaniacal villain who seeks absolute and never-ending dominion over everything. If they were to achieve this insane goal, they would proclaim themselves the new god of the world (or universe) or overthrow the existing divinity and take its place.

Becoming a god usually means to become a "perfect being"; immortal, omnipotent, and unmatchable, but some might be content by simply becoming all-powerful or immortal, as they already consider that no one can kill or surpass them. Those who already consider themselves as a god also fall in this category, if they are powerful enough and coerce the people they oppress to worship them. In some cases, god wannabes, as stated above, can already be some kind of deity and have gained omnipotence to some degree, but wish to go one step further and become a supreme being; Thanos and Bonechill are good examples of this.

On the contrary, omnipotent Reality Warpers, such as Anthony Fremont or Mad Jim Jaspers, despite wielding god-like powers are not God Wannabes, except if they proclaim to be God on a regular basis. In the same way, "Cult Leaders" does not necessarily mean "God Wannabe".
