  • The title was changed to MLP:TYT 70 Episodes and MLP:MYM 8 episodes.
  • The title was changed to My Little Pony: Tell your Tale 70 Episodes

Hmm.  At this point I'm wondering if the fact that we have these two different series going on at the same time is because Hasbro or whoever else is involved decided to divide the two major types of stories FiM told into two separate series.  For instance the fact that Tell Your Tale has soo many episodes ordered and for short 5 minute running times makes me believe that they will focus on short episodic slice of life shenanigans with the Mane 5 because what else would such a short running time be used for?  And the fact that Make Your Mark has only 8 episodes makes me think about how some of the more serialized series on current streaming platforms tend to have small episode counts.  For instance another animated series on Netflix, The Dragon Prince tends to have seasons that are only 9 episodes long and it is heavily serialized.  So I wonder if that would be the same case here, with Make Your Mark focusing on telling a more serialized adventure based story.

There's that toy line connection which needed to be present. Seventy episodes is pretty good and I don't mind them clocking in at five minutes per episode. You can do an awful lot with that amount of time so this is going to be very good.

To me it looks like the toy company in Hasbro has shown up again...but I haven't seen it yet so I can't say for sure. In a way, I think they are/are going to end up coasting off of G4's success.

Then again, if my younger relatives and neighbors are an average, kids these days do not have an attention span at all. 5 minutes might be too much.

What are they trying to do here? I hope the toy company doesn't completely take over...after such a great movie...

Only eight episodes a season is a major blow for G5 and any enthusiasm I had for it. While having only eight episodes a season works for shows with episodes that are 44 minutes or longer, these episodes will just be the standard 22 minutes that 26 episode per season shows have. That is less than one third of the content that was in a season of Friendship is Magic (only about 3 hours compared to Fim's 9.5 hours). In fact, three hours is more like an large movie than an actual series. Even with a couple of specials to coincide, this hardly feels like enough content to be considered G5's main series.

On the other hand, 70 five-minute episodes (350 minutes) for the 2D series. While this may look good on paper, this series has a very cheap looking, poor quality animation style, and five minute episodes implies short, fast paced episodes with little plot or character development. What might be G5's version of pony life has more content than the first season of the "main" series, which is just sad.

Maybe (and hopefully) the stories will be well written between these two series (which is more likely for MYM than TYT), but the fact that Hasbro has decided to split their resources into two small series rather than one big one us very unfortunate. Having one big series would've allowed for much more consistent content and an overall higher quality, but Hasbro, being the money loving toy company they are, must figure that having two smaller series would boost sales. I think both series may be negatively impacted by this, and the entire generation. The show could be good, don't get me wrong, but the splitting of the series will likely make it harder to really get invested in. If there is a positive takeaway though, at least this may mean MYM's animation will be the same quality as the movie's, or at least close to it.

It's literally a 23 episode season though, just released in several chunks instead of weekly episodes or all at once.

That sounds good, a new arc every 8 episodes.

I don't think it's going to be serialized enough to have arcs. I'd go as far as to speculate that it's not even going to have plot heavy, status quo altering season premiere(s) and finale(s) we are used to, with that kinda stuff being relegated to the specials.

From what I've read of the presentation there isn't anything that strictly states that the first season will be 23 episodes long. It could just be saying those are the episodes ordered for the entirety of the series so far (three seasons). Obviously I hope that it will be a 23 episode season rather than an eight episode one, but knowing Hasbro, they may take the cheap route on this one.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here. Hasbro splitting their resources in two doesn't seem like it's going to work well in the long run.

What splitting of resources? Two separate studios are working on the shows. And MYM is a big series, there is no reason to assume that TYT is being produced on the budget that otherwise would have gone to MYM. Come on, people.

I did do some digging, and I did find the PDF from Thunderbird Entertainment that confirmed the 23-episode order, in addition to four specials.

As for "resource splitting", I also doubt that the production of the 2D shorts would affect the quality of the 3D series. People said the exact same thing about Equestria Girls consuming resources that could've gone to Friendship is Magic, even before the EG/FiM Youtube shorts came out, this is nothing new. I don't get where people get that misconception from when tons of content was also being pumped out for G4, even during the "golden years".

That's interesting(and alot of fluff in that)...how can a company make some of the best shows AND some of the worst lol.

Interesting pipeline projects, that's for sure.

Now instead of just having to pay one studio to work on pony content, now Hasbro has to shell out cash to two studios. So even though two separate studios are creating these shows, the money is still has to come from Hasbro. While I could be wrong on this, I assume that Hasbro allocates a certain amount of money to use for each of its properties, meaning that said money would have to be split amongst both series within the same property. It almost seems like Hasbro doesn't have enough faith in MYM, so they decided to cut some of its funds to make this cheap side series.
