Capcom Pro Tour 2023 (Street FIghter 6)

Who said E-Sports can't be a legitimate sport? lol

This month commences the beginning of one of the biggest and most wanted championships in the history of competitive videogaming: Capcom Pro Tour 2023.
A year-long journey consisting of many online tournaments (and a few offline) where the best of the best will prove their skills and show if they truly have a hunger for victory, all in the recent hit game Street Fighter 6, and aiming to punch their tickets to Capcom Cup X, with a total prize of 2 million of dollars and just 1M for the first place.

The format is divided in online tournaments (double elimination brackets for the Top 16) held in different regions, plus a few offline tournaments held during specific gaming weeks, ranking-based World Warrior tournaments and a Last Chance Qualifiers.
Everything can be read on their official website. Go check it out for more.
https://sf.esports.capcom.com/cpt/

The point of this thread is to give my personal opinion to each region tournament as the best as I can, along with posting the video streams and hoping to give an interest to some of you in following this modern sport
I may receive no replies whatsoever... but oh well. I enjoy doing these kind of reports lol
This is also a testing grounds for a future format I want to apply for other sports as well.

With all said, here's the video for the SF6 Top 6 held at EVO, the biggest fighting game tournament in the world that took place at the Michelob UltraArena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Personal Thoughts (spoilers)

Spoiler

As much as I loved Angry Bird getting a much deserved victory (loved the Mecca-praising pose), I think MenaRD had the better game and options to win the finals as he's the only one capable of playing two different characters in an aggressive and unpredictable fashion, as he already showed at CEO 2023.

I would've loved seeing Kakeru more. His JP is so scary he legit give difficulty to Daigo "The Beast" Umehara. In simple terms, it's like Harry Kane being able to keep up against D.A. Maradona.
GG to the rest of the group.

Spoiler

I may sound a bit harsh here but it was kinda meh for a Qualifier.
Maybe because, around the same time, there was also Gamers8 in Saudi Arabia that had all the best SF6 players in the world giving a pretty heated tournament.
Oceania Qualifier felt like the ordinary Platinum tournament at Battle Hub where only Travis Styles looked like he tried to give some competitive flair to it.
Then again, America and Japan promises to be way more contested.

Personal opinions
Once again, too many Kens lol
That aside, a little bit of variety and some good matches overall. I really liked how one of the Top 16 is 45-years old (a SF1 player lol). That is to show how age isn't an important factor when compared to the passion one person can invest in the game to the point of qualifying in the round.

Quite the fun qualifier despite being almost Mexico-only and Hurricane Hilary put a stick in the wheels during matches. Kusanagi steamrolled the competition, thus showing why Ken is top-tier, and the "mystery man" SolVNG put on a good run with his Luke, showcasing the potential behind the Modern controls that many people scoffs at.

Spoiler

The best qualifier so far... so many players both old and new. Having Justin Wong, Viscant and PRBalrog in there makes me feel a bit old xD
Many funny matches with lots of clutches and back-to-back fighting. Samurai vs JB would have been the best match in the qualifier if it wasn't for the Grand Final.
As a Zangief main, I definitely rooted for Snake Eyez who showed why he's considered the best Gief player in the world.

In a game where JP is considered top tier and Zangief lying in the bottom, an opinion generally shared in the SF6 community, Snake Eyez managed to make an exceptional comeback by relying on a terrifying neutral game with the pokes, insane reaction times and lots of patience. This goes to show how tiers and match-ups don't matter a lot when compared to skills and experience.
Grappling may be the way to go for such character but don't ever think he's a terrible character because he has no projectile. Always study the opponent and never get greedy. In the end you'll tuck the opponent when the time is right.

Very fun qualifier. Definitely the best one yet.

Spoiler

Top 16 was meh. Lots of dropped combos and scramble moments. Egarovano should work on DI reaction.
Top 8 was slightly better. Worthy of note is 13 y.o. Blaz11 run with an incredible Ken. That kid has a brilliant future in the FGC. All he really needs is improving his offensive play because the pressing was lackluster and Ken heavily relies on being aggressive, especially when the opponent is burned out.
Sucks Shaka22 didn't make it. His Dhalsim was legitimately scary with the teleports, the fireballs and the way he manipulates the game while spacing.

Of course Koreans shows to be the most competitive Asians after the Japanese, not without giving respect for the Hong Kong and Taiwan players who managed to go so far. Given the fact Luke combos relies a lot on timing for pulling the perfect Flash Knuckles, it goes to show how both runner-ups for the Grand Finals were masters at their characters, let alone in SF6.
Fun qualifier.

Gotta love Vicious and Tasty Steve. Best commentary duo lol

Quite surprised by the quality of the matches in Top 8 after a pretty lame T16 (especially a disappointing Zangief). MarkTheShark could have at least made a reset if it wasn't for that trade, but alas JabhiM isn't a pro player for nothing. Having played for his country at the Red Bull Kumite this year.

About the Central America East: I expected MenaRD to take part in it but his partner Caba goes to show he's no slouch either. The Guile mirror matches with him and Bryan-D were intense.

Aside from MenaRD being the dirty Blanka/Luke he is known for and Kakeru being a cyborg when it comes to Perfect Parries, it was a fun qualifier. Too bad most characters in the Top 16 were the "top tier" ones with some exceptions. This was clearly an "East Asia" qualifier but with a Dominican pro player to spice things up.

Pretty tight Qualifier overall. Can't wait to see my country represented in both the French Offline Premiere and Europe West and (hoping) to see one of my compatriots qualified.

Garnet showed the world how insane Dhalsim can be in the right hands despite being one of the hardest characters to master.
Kinda sucks he had to face Geeck-O, the best Cammy in the country, but the match was a really good one. Showing how dedicated is my country's competitive scene and I hope it gets represented more with these results.

Another surprise is the elimination of this qualifier's favorite: Belgium's Takamura. But don't expect it to be the last we see of him. He could still qualify via World Warrior rankings.

Meh qualifier with so many people making scramble moments, dropped inputs and wasted combo opportunity. The only competent players were the Nasr team members: Angry Bird and Big Bird.
Speaking of which, this qualifier can be best described as Angry Bird, winner of the biggest EVO tournament in history, gate-keeping anyone that isn't the equally skilled Big Bird (who won the Red Bull Kumite with his aggressive Marisa play).

Final thoughts

Spoiler

Finally a Lily player in the qualifiers lol

Decent qualifier (just on par compared to the previous one) but I knew Xian would have dominated the rounds if given the chance. And with that, a Dee Jay is in the Capcom Cup.
The Losers Final has got to be the scrambliest Cammy mirror match I've ever seen.
