Can ponies gain ice or fire powers?

Anyone had the idea of ponies gain fire or ice powers? Let me know!

Would elemental magic count? I can see no reason why unicorns wouldn't be able to cast elemental magic aligned with fire or ice. Besides, the pegasus ability to manipulate clouds should count.
