abronymouse 5,866 March 5 Share March 5 Bronies are great, in general but we have our moments. When has the fandom made you cringe? Inspired by this derpibooru search result: Bear in mind that one pony's cringe is another pony's um... binge? you know what I mean. Be nice Also, don't get too upset if someone cringes at something you enjoy. 3
OverTheStars 202 March 5 Share March 5 (edited) Honestly I don't find a ton of things cringe because it's mostly people having fun, BUT... - Adult YouTubers making tons of videos on little kids' OCs to complain about them being 'Mary Sues' (is some random 12-year-old's alicorn OC really that important and horrible?) - How some vendors at conventions had suggestive pony art and body pillows out in the open during supposedly family friendly hours - Any time bronies got irrationally angry at the show, I get it's important to a lot of people, but something about thousands of teens or older raging over a magical rainbow alicorn baby for "messing up (already inconsistent) lore" was just...odd to me. I didn't really like some decisions in the show either, but at the end of the day it's important to remember that MLP's first priority was always marketing and selling toys, and that we aren't really the target audience. There's bound to be times when they put making new and cute toys and merchandise over good storytelling or worldbuilding. Like some uncomfortable moments seeing high profile people such as Purple Tinker going to war on Twitter and people in my friend group going literally insane, back in the day, over Twilight sprouting wings Edited March 5 by abronymouse
Megas 27,785 March 5 Share March 5 Never underestimate this fandom's ability to embarrass itself. I was around for Derpygate, Toonkritic, and 2020 when several people were showing their asses(If you know, you know).

Letting zany libertine awkward older guys mix with younger fans and RP and such... eek. Even some of the sweet people on here (mainly the girls) have had bad experiences like that. It's so selfish and dumb - these guys who are like "this young thing is totally into me" when ofc a young person is a developing person. (Y2K is worse than even that, though, holy hoof...) Warning, massive drama-dive. I consider myself pretty hardened and I was shocked... and if it shocks me... Snow 7,549 Wednesday at 07:39 PM Share Wednesday at 07:39 PM I've certainly cringed a few times over the years when it comes to this darling fandom of ours but I cant really point to anything big or specific. I'd say a constant source of cringe would be a very small percentage of show inspired art that is also edgy or fetishized, usually very poorly done too. I bet I could find some examples in no time if I fired up good ol' DeviantArt but I'm not going to go out of my way to do that 3 beans
Midnight Insight 111 Wednesday at 09:53 PM Share Wednesday at 09:53 PM In terms of cringe, I don't really have much of a problem now. I think maybe I have become the cringe itself , a little bit. Then, for me, there are some things that mix cringe and disgust, like all those suggestive and inappropriate Rule 34-ish fanarts... Or the world famous "jar" incident, which became so well-known that it even made me think all fans were that kind of people (I didn't know the show nor the community back then). But, as long as you don't hurt/abuse anypony, feel free to enjoy whatever you want. I prefer to focus on the wholesome side of the show, where fans create awesome music, covers, art, and animations
Iforgotmybrain 5,816 Wednesday at 10:19 PM Share Wednesday at 10:19 PM The popular .mov videos have always made me cringe. They've always just come off as pointless edge lord humor to me which isn't really my thing.

SharpWit 2,718 Thursday at 06:50 AM Share Thursday at 06:50 AM The UWU crowd and the shameless pervs to be sure. Different levels of disgust, but the fawning for cuteness that interrupted serious conversations got real old, real quick, as did the oversharing of what people did and enjoyed in their free time. MLP themed Safe spaces had a strange period of misinterpretation where some thought it was ok to share their daily bedroom activities like some performative journal entry, and criticism was met by calls of hypocrisy over free expression. Some were trolls, some did it with intention because they got off on the shock reaction, but plenty were legitimately overbearing with their oversharing. Some of this also became tied into the the "Kinder?" Movement that tried to hijack the LGBTQ community. Derpibooru is funny with their suggestive and other labels, because sometimes it's nothing, and other times there's super graphic material just out in the open with no warning.
