Nightmare Moon's Reign

We all saw Nightmare Moon's reign at the end of Season 5. We saw the restored castle and Rarity's announcement that the castle was closed to tourists. So, does this mean that life for ponies hasn't changed much? Yes, we understand that every city in Equestria has tapestries, posters, and statues of Nightmare Moon and that everypony is supposed to love her, but that's better than being enslaved by Sombra, being food for changelings, or living in Discord's world of chaos. In Nightmare's world, despite the eternal night, plants grow and there is no frost. When Twilight spoke of the threat to Equestria, Rarity called it a tourist fantasy. Does this mean that life for ordinary ponies hasn't changed at all with the advent of Nightmare Moon's reign?

I'd be willing to bet it's about as bad as the Sombra timeline. The difference is you risk your life by speaking out rather than on the battle field for a worthy cause. Don't get me wrong, I'm picking the police state over the absolute war of attrition, especially since Equestria perseveres, but the fight against Sombra is a necessity, whereas the suffering under Nightmare Moon's reign isn't. Everyone lives in constant fear. Not from outsiders, but from a ruler that haunts their dreams. The level of oppression is unique to say the least. You're not safe around others, or in your own unconscious mind. To associate with a free thinker is likely a crime in of itself. Trust in each other and friendship are at an all time low. You have a life, but you're not really living. If your goals aren't in line with those of the state, it's a miserable existence.
