Read or Listen?

If you read fanfics, would you rather listen to someone read it to you (like a dramatic reader from youtube) or actually find the text online and read it to yourself?

Personally me what I do is I get the text from online and make put it into notepad making it a .txt file. Then, I convert it to a .mobi and read it from my kindle fire :)

Hearing the fanfic, you're doing it wrong

If you spent enjoying the fanfic with hearing to a speaker, you really had no time to visualize everything in your head. There was no enjoyment in "Oh, look at that, applejack is bucking the apple tree", only "'Applejack bucked a tree' the speaker said"

To add matter worse, the speaker was more often that not is shit at reading

As much as I like to read, I find it more entertaining to have someone else read them when I'm bored. That way I can mock their mispronunciations.

Oh, and it makes some creepypastas quite a bit less creepy.

Sometimes, although there are a few people who can do pretty decent accents and impersonations that make the listening enjoyable. Although sometimes what I don't like is when the reader makes comments during the story. Just ruins it...

I really couldn't imagine myself listening to someone else reading a fic, y'know. I mean sure, I could go and listen to a reading but the pacing is the only downside to them If your a fast reader.

Read it myself. It's always more immersive if you're the one reading. Plus, I read faster than most people talk.

I prefer reading. I can read at about 700-800 words per minute, whereas the average human can only speak at about 100-120 words per minute. Reading is just so much faster and more efficient.

This view applies not only to fanfiction, but anything in general - news articles (I hate when news sites post videos instead of text), work communications (I prefer email over phone), etc.

I'd much prefer to read it myself than have someone read it to. I can vouch for several occasions were I have read something faster than someone has read it out loud, so having someone read it out would feel slow and unengaging and cause the listener to often zone out, missing entire sections before they realise they've been daydreaming. Plus, having the actual text infront of me makes it much easier to visualise what's going on.

I rather read it myself. Imagination can work a little better there because now, not only are you putting faces to names. You're also putting the sound of the voice to the character.
