Zoop 8,384 June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 Personally, I don't want to see the blogs suffer the same fate as IP.Chat and IP.Gallery (ie. they were removed because they added nothing of any real, lasting value to the site). Value? What is more valuable than pictures of half-eaten sandwiches? RIP Gallery.
Finesthour 7,287 June 21, 2012 Author Share June 21, 2012 Well honestly, I see it as a connection factor for the people on the forums. Like dream up there said, STALKING. Tom The Diamond 1,830 June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 To be quite honest, I support this, mainly because I like it when a website offers a lot of things to do, and can make it sort of one nice hub. I for one am too lazy to really make accounts on other sites. Plus, a blogging feature would allow me to rant about stuff I wouldn't care to make a topic for. Ya know, things that you want to talk about and have more substance then a status, but not enough discussion value to make a topic out of. So yeah, I'd use it, and I think it would be a neat edition to the site. But would you be able to 'subscribe' to a user, to be notified about when they do a new blog and when someone comments on said blog?

It is possible to follow someone's blog just like you can currently follow a topic, forum, or calendar. It might help to see a live example of IP.Blog in action. Nightfall 3,950 June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 I support the blog system... It would help us get to know each other, thus building or friendship and making this website the best MLP forums out there!
Finesthour 7,287 June 21, 2012 Author Share June 21, 2012 I could see this really working! (I'm not being biased, even if I MADE the suggestion xD) It could help users talk about things they just want to TALK about that are really off topic, while saying more than just a status would be able to. Like tom said!
Jokuc 8,174 June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 (edited) Personally, I don't think I would use it. Tuxedo Kamen! 114 June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 If it came into existence MLP forums would become my main social networking site. I am so for it, partlybecause I know that the ponies here value my opinion and might actually care what i would blog about, unlike my other blog. A blog space here would be a great way to better know your friends. just my opinion Signature Credit Goes To Midnightive "Moon Prism Power Make Up!!!!!" Shameless self-advertising But I'd be glad to have a blog on these forums. Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,527 June 21, 2012 Founder Share June 21, 2012 We need the entire site much more rather than just the blog People can always keep donating past the donation goal (and it can be adjusted), and I've got some income from ads and affiliate sales sitting around. Getting IP.Blog won't be an issue if we determine it to be a valuable addition to the site, and no one other than the admins need to concern themselves over its cost. Please don't let those $50 factor into your opinion. I actually lowered the donation goal by $100 this month in light of the subscriptions signups we've had and a couple of new hosting clients who are intent on staying for the long term. Ideally, I would like everyone to switch over to subscriptions and remove the goal entirely. Klopp 2,050 June 21, 2012 Share June 21, 2012 1) Will user blogs be updated often enough, and with material worth reading, to justify their existence? I'd be willing to bet a good chunk of users would use it, and it would be great as a replacement for the current "Life Advice" section, actually. That place is already filled with bloggish posts, and if you can comment on blog posts, it'll basically just be a transition on over, keeping things a bit more organized than they currently are. Oh, also, I think I'd be down with having an MLP Forums Blog of my own. Anyone interested in a Klopp Blog? 2) How is running a blog on MLP Forums preferable to running a blog on your own website, or an existing SaaS service like WordPress.com or Blogspot? I don't know about you, but I like to stick with one community rather than bouncing back and forth between many. Giving members more variety on the forums will help current members stay longer, and possibly attract in even more members. Who's to say we haven't already had a few people check out the forums and think "No blog in this community? **leaves**" 3) How will the addition of user blogs serve our goal to be the world's favourite My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic forum? Some people might make strictly pony blogs, some people might make personal blogs, there's really no telling unless we were to actually get this thing going. I'd just going to take a rough estimate and say that the percentage of pony to non-pony content will be about the same as it is on the forums. Another thing to note, I took a look at the Application over at IP Services and found this little thing here: Highlight important content UPDATED Highlight important or interesting entries made by members by making them featured entries. Featured entries are displayed prominently on the community blog homepage to draw attention to them. This feature is particularly useful if you have important news to share, or to highlight an entry made by a guest blogger. That would be a marvelous way to keep members up to date with new updates on the forums, highlight anything important that members should know about, and keep members up to date on any changes made to the global rules. Hopefully get members to look at things posted by us moderators such as the MLP Forums posting guide (I still get random brohoofs for that, from members who should have already read it >.>) And bring to their attention anything new like the Commissions forum. With all that being said, I'm gonna have to say go for it. Worst that can happen is we are out 50 bucks, which I will be throwing your way eventually anyways
