Maybe not your traditional enemy but I'd hand it to the wendigo's, they pretty much would've wiped out the entire pony world if not for the founding of equestria.

Take all of my yes. I'm glad that there are others thinking about the Windigoes. They were truly some frightening creatures. Freezing an entire region solid based on a natural emotion, albeit a negative one.

Have you heard about Grogar? He is from G1

 

He was seconds away (Literally, seconds away) to banish the ponies to the dark realm and conquer Ponyland. He even had Megan and her friends and all the ponies captured.

 

There was no way of winning, except from that single mistake by Grogar's right hand, that way the ponies could escape.

 

To me, no one was more close of defeating the ponies than Grogar. Not even Discord. I'm sorry, fans.

 

The episode is called "The Return of Tambelon".

I've only watched FiM, but I'd have to say probably Chrysalis.  Discord was a much better villain, but he wasn't scary, he just loved fucking shit up

I know that Discord is a very good villain but, Chrysalis is a pretty scary villain since her sole purpose was to feed off of love.

I think it's a tie between the Smooze and Chrysalis for me, judging on pure scariness alone and not on how successful each villain was in conquering the ponies. A movie monster known as The Blob scared the ever-loving pants off of me as a child, for one reason: liquid-like creatures can get into nearly anything. You try to get away from the creature that's terrorizing you? Most of the time, a door or a grenade or something can stop them, or at least slow them down. But that's not the case with liquids. Being fairly simplistic, the G1 movie doesn't quite touch on how terrifying that is, which is why it would certainly be creepy if the Smooze were included in G4. "Nothing can stop the Smooze" is certainly a lie, as it is eventually stopped, but "not much can stop the Smooze" is certainly true.

 

As for Chrysalis, she's kind of the black widow spider of the pony world in my opinion: beautiful, a bit mysterious, creepy, and a little grotesque all at once. Her design alone is pretty scary, but I think the creepiest aspect about her is that she can copy the body of another pony, and hide the original. Shining Armor nearly married her without realizing she wasn't actually Cadence. A creature inhabiting the body of a loved one is certainly a chilling thought.

Windigo's easily, they nearly killed entire nations simply through feeding off of hatred. The only thing scarier than them are defense attorneys

Those damn "boys" from G2. Always being total jerks to the girls, but then making the girls fall all over them with cheap sexual exploitation tactics. No wonder 99% of boys were driven out of Equestria after the rise of the matriarchy. Bastards deserved it.

The Smooze without a doubt. It's like the unholy love child of Dr. Seuss and H.P. Lovecraft! It may appear silly from a glance but even it's design is a bit disturbing for children's programming. It's nothing but a torrent of filth with thousands of shifting faces upon it. Spreading and consuming all, like an eldritch balm poured from the black in between stars unto the surface of an unsuspecting world.

Physically Tirek. only villain with human carachteristics, and that's creepy.

In G4 he looks like a monkey, worst part of his design.

 

By concept, Smooze, a giant violet blob that moves at high speeds and devours everything on its path while expands on size it's frightening.

 

In G4 they're all laughable. Cockatrice is creepy but the others are silly.

Ya I gotta go with Grogar in this. Don't her me wrong, the others were pretty bad ass but like most baddies, it was those damned flunkies that F'ed everything up. (its so hard to find competent henchmen these days)
