gaming The decline of multiplayer gaming.

I've had good experiences online with TF2, the people have good conversations, they don't gloat unless it's something hilarious, then we all share a laugh. I notice when my buddy plays Black Ops if someone isn't silent they're being egotistical.

And Pokemon having online multiplayer is great too, if you live in a rural area trading online with online buddies can be really rewarding.

I remember when Battlefield 2 first came out. Everyone was so...friendly. But today? Only a few days ago I made a some douchebag 12-year old cry just because I killed him on and on because he was so full of himself thinking he was a 'somebody'.

I was tried healing a teammate o' mine in TF2, but the dude called me a "retard" for doing so. Like, what the fuck?

I have always been a fan of CoD since Call of Duty Classic, and I belive multiplayer went down hill with MW2. Don't get me wrong, MW2 was one of favorite games, but when the fanbase of 8 year kids moved in, it changed CoD and multiplayer gaming alike.

This is a HUGE issue for me, because since I live with my two brothers we are not allowed, yes I said allowed, to buy any one-player only games. Which is sucks because the kind of games I like are all one layer, which is why my video game count is so low.

~I love the way Storm Spark makes love to me! No one is as manly as he is~

I find it odd that a game for kids like littlebigplanet doesn't have as many little kids as CoD because little kids don't want to play an actualy decent game like littlebigplanet because they think their school friends will think they aren't cool for playing a ''baby game''. Otherwise, littlebigplanet is the only console game I know that has a somewhat decent community. I guess the reason why so many little kids are on shooters because they think playing a ''big boys game'' will get them friends at school.

Well, LBP isn't a shooter. Simple as that :P. Shooting=fustration for some odd reason

Mario Kart? Mario Kart.

'Nuff said.

Actually, no.

GoldenEye, Mario Party, TF2 (there are still good servers with good people out there), Star Wars Battlefront, and many more.

All games with brilliant mulitplayer, best played with people you know.

What are you expecting when you play random people? A hug and a kiss while they say prayers with you?

When you play people online at random, you are more likely to get the people playing games because it's cool to do so.

Multiplayer is always best when you play with friends or people you know.

I can't help but completely agree with this. I don't see playing with complete strangers as anything different than playing against unpredictable computer-controlled characters who (in some games) have the ability to talk back to you. You'll run into far more diverse play styles and usually a higher level of challenge than the computer gives you; but when playing against people you don't know, a competitive spirit and selfish human need to "prove" yourself better than your opponents kicks in and takes priority over relaxing and just enjoying the game.

When you're playing with friends or people whom you already know (like fellow MLP Forums members, for example!), that pathological need to prove yourself "worthy" doesn't matter as much anymore, because you know that your relationship with your opponents has much more to it than "who's better at the game?"

I'm quite sure this is a human psychology thing that goes as far back as the history of civilization. Humans have an inborn tendency to cluster together in groups sharing a common interest, and a complementary tendency to prove themselves "better" than people whom they are unfamiliar with. You'll focus more on having a good time when you play with people you already know, while your focus will instinctively shift to "winning" (or convincing yourself that you "won" something even if you actually lose) in an effort to assume a position of superiority. This had some obvious implications and advantages back when resources were scarce and physical survival was of the utmost priority some 40 millennia ago, but I see it as a vestigial artifact of our evolution.

Pre-teens who hop online to play games rated years above their maturity level get so excited at the thought of "blowing shit up" and spilling virtual blood that disgustingly overcompetitive behaviour comes naturally with the visceral, primal thrill they experience. There's a reason the ESRB, PEGI, and equivalent organizations rate the games that usually provoke this kind of behaviour as 17+, and that's because adults generally tend to have better judgement and ability to intelligently work against their instincts.

Also the kind of console plays a part in the kind of community one faces while paying games. I've actually made more friends playing Blops on the Wii (Ikr, Blops for the Wii who would have thought?) than I have playing both MW3 & BF3 on the Xbox together. Most of the messages I would recieve on the Xbox would be of the most vile feelings that I end up just deleting them without reading. On the Wii however, messages I recieved would be from people I just beat and would be as simple as GG to asking for tips & requesting to be friends. So which platform you play on tends to affect which kind of players you come in contact with.

So much for Nintendo WiFi Connection being the worst multiplayer gaming network ever conceived. ^_^

Rideing on the bus to school, every friend having a DS and Mario Kart... those were the days of multiplayer gaming. Or sleeping over to play Halo 2 or Super Smash Bros. It wasn't always about winning, a lot of the fun was just playing together.

I feel that after CoD 4 and Halo 3, online multiplayer just never was the same for me. I don't think anyone can deny the impact these two (and other) games had on the online community, be it good or bad.

It's funny really, how in Halo one click of the anolog stick can change everything. It changes a "Alright alright you got me. Nice one though" to Jimmies = Maximum Rustleing.

I'm an oddity. I make a living as a systems administrator, I have a monster of a PC, but until November of last year I still had dial-up internet. Until last November I lived in the boonies of Virginia where I had no alternative, so it wasn't until the move that multiplayer became an option for me. Still, it wasn't until last month that I really began to get started. The only game I've played online so far is Red Orchestra 2. The people I've played with have been good for the most part. There's usually one guy criticizing everybody and flaming his whole team, but the majority of those guys say nothing at all except for when they apologize for a killing a friendly. It could just be the servers I've played on, I don't know.

Thinking of getting into TF2 soon since it's immensely popular and I know there are a ton of bronies who play.

Also, I think a major factor is that gaming is no longer a nerdy thing to do. I'm going to stereotype here a bit, but bear with me; groups of people who wouldn't ever have played games 10 years ago now do. The jocks of yesteryear wouldn't have played games because there weren't any that we're cool and accessible. But now with everybody having a 360/PS3, and everybody thinking FPSs are cool, we are flooded with a bunch of people I'd really rather not play games with.

When I was a kid, I knew nobody else in school who liked video games, electronics, or anything "nerdy." I was the only one. Not too shocking since I grew up in a very redneck area, but it was discouraging nonetheless. All those years I just wanted somebody to play with and who understood me. Now that all those guys who didn't used to share my hobbies have started playing games, I wish they would stop again.

I don't know for you guys but the best way to have fun playing Multiplayer games this days is to play them with friends or with people that have similar interests like you.So i have came up with a solution for this problem,i could hold every day a lobby full of us bronies so we can have a nice game of Halo,Cod,Street Fighter,Forza... without having douchebags and little children arguing and yelling and not having to care about people spawn killing, camping, doing combos while we are stuck in corners, wrecking our cars...So if you agree with me send me a message on XBL and i will try to make the lobby everyday!

I don't play competitively online too much anymore. Despite enjoying a fair run through an FPS arena, etc, I keep the amount of jackasses in my life to a minimum where possible. It's especially disappointing that these games became the epicenter for 12 year-olds having a tantrum. I preferred the days when online games had a much higher paycheck/tech knowledge requirement.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it at all. The XBL community sucks. Too many 10-13 year olds who scream. I don't like putting up with people like that, so I usually just play with people I already know.

I feel that the online community fell right after the releases of these new consoles.

For example, back in the day, it was about having fun and being friends, call of duty or Halo alike.

But nowadays, Halo players are lifeless faggots according to the COD fans, and COD fans are lonely little Gaykids with no friends and no skill according to Halo players.

It started around the time of kids joining 360 live.

I was in a party with a friend who is somewhat of a cod fanboy, and we get along just fine. he was in deathmatch owning a child. he joined our party and started ranting. I told him to be queit because I'm the party leader. well, after hearing that, he opened up the party and sawI was playing Halo. He starts ranting and swearing about how I'm gay, I suck at videogames, and that I have no life. Then we started arguing too. eventually, it became a turf war in my party. it was me vs. my best friend and a child. the child had ragequit his COD game and had ranted once more before leaving m party,as for my friend, he left the party and removed me off friends because of his new "hate" for halo players.

It was the kids. Not all kids, but some. they had developed a terrible attitude on the community and spread it to other players, eventually turning XBL and PSN into a total fanboy-based war.

Like I said, it isnt all of the kids, but some kids have blame for bringing down the community of online gaming.
