Happy Real Independence Day Everypony!

Ok, so many of you are asking why am I celebrating Independence Day two days early? Well the reason is that we actually celebrate Independence Day two days late. On July 2, 1776 around 50 men in scorching 90 degree heat in Independence Hall in Philadelphia voted to declare their independence from Great Britain. Out of the 13 colonies, 12 voted for Independence (New York did not vote since their legislature had not decided whether or not to support the idea, they later did). So really today, July 2 is the day we became a nation. Happy Birthday America!

As for July 4, there is some real historical stuff there too. The reason we celebrate July 4 as Independence Day is because of the Declaration of Independence. July 4 is the day that the Second Continental Congress adopted Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence as the official document proclaiming our independence and July 4 was put on top of the document. Americans assumed that we declared Independence and adopted the document on the same day and since the document said July 4, well you get the picture. As for the day in the middle, July 3, Congress spent the day making final revisions to the document before writing the final copy.

And if you think the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, you'd be wrong as well. Only two people signed the document on that day: John Hancock, the President of the Congress and Charles Thomson, the Secretary of the Congress. The men were in such a rush to get the document printed and spread out to the states and England that they figured signing it could wait. They would later sign the document August 2, though not all the men who voted for Independence were there to sign it and vice versa. It was a very hectic and scary time considering they were committing treason. But it was for a great cause and our freedom. So God Bless those men and God Bless America!

Hope you enjoyed the history lesson, if you have any questions let me know.
