I'd have to say C&C Generals Zero Hour (Air Force General FTW)

I completely agree with you, except on your choice of General. The Toxin General is the best IMO. Supreme Commander 2 and Warcraft III are also near the top on my list of favourites.

RA2 and Total Ahnialation where both games i spent hours and hours playing are are probably my all time fav RTS's.

I played alot of generals (being able to build 100 nukes is awesome) and recently some sc2, sc2 is pritty good and probably the ebst around atm.

Probably Starcraft 2, i haven't really played that many RTS games. Not very fond of them unless they're well balanced. However i'm open to try new ones if people suggest them. =)

In no particular order, the Starcraft series (although I prefer Brood War), Age of Empires 2, and the entire Total War series.

Yeah, I'm with everyone who mentioned Red Alert as their favorite. Though recently I've started to like C&C: Generals just a bit more than Red Alert.

the last Red alert game I've played was RA2 with the "Uri's revenge" add-on can you explain more about this game? It looks like it has the good ol' gameplay and looks a lot less "cartoon-ie" than the 2 newer ones.

I guess the appeal of C&C:Generals is that it tries to use more game units and story that are more grounded in reality. Though there is a lack of sea warfare, the game makes up for this in that it's main focus is more in resource management and strategy.

  • 2 years later...

Warzone 2100, Command and Conquer Generals/Red Alert 2, Warhammer Dawn of War, Starcraft, Age of Empires 3, Real War Rogue States, Rise of Nations, and Rise of Legends.

I love playing strategy games, not just real-time either! :D

I hear that high-ish level StarCraft II multiplayer is all just spamming basic units because everything else has hard counters and therefore isn't worth the resources? And that there's very little real micro now, aside from, say, Zerg hitting queen injects on time, and having ranged stuff run away from melee, turn to shoot, keep running, turn to shoot, etc. This was what I got from talking to one my friends, who is platinum rank or something.

Not enough micromanagement in Starcraft 2?!  That game is micromanagement hell!  Maybe slightly less micromanagement hell than the original, but micromanagement hell none the less.

There are so many RTS out there.  My personal favorites are Total Annihilation, which was absolutely brilliant for it's time and Dawn of War, the only RTS I could play random pickup games on the internet against random people and not get curb stomped.  Generals is a lot of fun but is poorly supported and the Scud Storm superweapon is just plain overpowered.  Starcraft can be fun when played with friends.

The problem with all RTS is they are rather boring against the computer and few incorporate matchmaking, which means internet games tend to be against seasoned veterans who will quickly crush you.  Best to play against friends but my friends tend not to like playing RTS.

I have always been a turn based sorta player, but I did give the original Men of War a try and I thoroughly enjoyed it(despite only playing the Soviet Campaign).

I'm not a real big fan of the Wargame series despite owning 2.

The Men of War series remains the only ones I've really enjoyed.

My all time favorite is Men of War: Red Tide.
