Should background ponies have significant roles?

Well, some people say "NO DONT MAKE VINYL CANON IN HER OWN EPISODE" while some people say "OMG LYRA NEEDS TO BECOME IMPORTANT IN EPISODES".

 

Who's side are you on?

Agreeing some Background Ponies should make an appearance, you know, with a bunch of speaking lines or their own episode(s).

or Do you prefer they just stay Background Ponies and no more than that?

Maybe you would like to see them rarely or often having parts, but not always?

I wouldn't mind them having one line at some point. I would want them to stay background ponies though. I wouldn't want them to have different personality's from the ones that we, the fans have created for them. They wouldn't be as fun if we knew everything about them.

 

You may ask, "Well what if they made the episode with the fan-made personalities?" Actually, that would be worse. Why? Simply because everyone has their own interpretation of the characters and in the end, not everyone would be satisfied with the final result. Also, I wouldn't want Lyra to be obsessed with humans in the show.

i belive iv made this point in many other thread but i'll say it again.

 

let the writer and animators just do there job

i mean do you rely want to see octavia or any other background/bronypony have a key part in a episode?

because im willing to be good bits that if they did that everyong would complain thet the charactors personality and voice isnt the same as the on bronys made for them.

 

just have faith in there desissions and be glad we get the moments like lyra talking

I love Derpy (<---her 'official' name) as well, but Rarity is a perfect pony for the mane six.

 

 

Anyways, yes, I would love to see Derpy and other background ponies have a bigger line than she usually does. Maybe she and other background ponies should have their own episodes, but I prefer to have them as maybe the second biggest role. I don't want too much background pony awesomeness. I want some mane six action too, ya know.

I like when they have small speaking parts, like when Derpy talked in S2E14, but I think they shouldn't go into depth on the background characters, or the brony created characters, just in fear that they don't make them the way we though.

I wouldn't mind them speaking off and on once in awhile. I think it certainly helps not knowing when we may get to see them in an episode, helps add anticipation. I don't think I'd like them as full characters though.

Background ponies are background ponies to me, for the most part. Once in a while I certainly wouldn't mind one of them carrying on a full conversation with one of the secondary or main characters in a particular scene, though. Like what Derpy did with Dash in 'The Last Roundup'.

Canon is what's in the show. For example it is 'canon' that Rainbow Dash now likes to read, because there was an entire episode based around her learning she liked to read. Fanon is not something that is in the show, but is thought up and believed in in the fanbase, among fans, based off of opinions. And most fanon is widely accepted by a lot of the particular fanbase. For example, a lot of people believe Discord and Celestia were in some kind of a relationship in the ancient past. It's not in the show, so it's not canon, ergo it's fanon, because it's fan-based.

I'm for once and a while because I mean, what is MLP without Background Ponies? Background Ponies make a major part of the fandom what it is. If there were no background ponies, then that would be boring. And you can't replace them.

That's why they should stay 99% background, then pull a line or two from time to time. Like pull a Derpy or Lyra line every ten episodes.

The problem with giving the background ponies more speaking roles, is that they're meant to be just that: background ponies. Their only real purpose is to just fill the space in the background. If, by chance, they do decide to give them more of the spotlight, they would have to be replaced by more background ponies and the whole cycle would just repeat and that means one thing: A whole bunch of work.

Also, I agree with what a lot of the previous posts have been saying that it might ruin the way we think about our favorite background ponies. I personally think that it's a lot more fun to think up how they might act on our own. With that said, I'm not totally against them having a few speaking lines, like Derpy and Rainbow in The Last Roundup.

I think that it'd actually be pretty sweet if more background ponies were introduced as important ponies. Shows have done a lot in the past added more characters so, why not use MLP background ponies?
