Smoothing out those lines into the tail really helped it out. I especially like the second picture with the frame; a nice touch added. The image gives off a very old western feel to it. Almost like this belongs inside a pub or one of those old western houses with the picture dangling up on a wall. Maybe you should do the rest of the Applejack family like that (I just realized I have no idea what their family name is, huh)

 

Heck, this could be like a great great aunt or something from the Applejack of the G4 series, that would be a killer back story. But I'm getting off topic here. The framed picture should be a bit more darkened and aged to help it's look, to give it a more proper antiquity feel to it. Other than that, this is a mighty fine piece you have here.

 

 

I really like how you thought about the back story. Haven't really done so myself with this. But I was at least aiming at a bit old time direction

But anyway, always fun to read what others imagine with it.

 

And you might have just given me a direction to start with for drawing non-mane 6 ponies.

as for the framed version, I'm sneaking in this less saturated version here just sneaky like.

Since you said darkened I just couldn't help changing it, fit's a lot better. Even without proper age detail (frame was rushed)

You just need to make the frame feel aged is all, nothing more to add. The second picture there definitely feels much better, not as bright.

 

If you do end up with a Apple Family old timely, maybe make the current Granny Smith as a filly and make this her ma? Something to consider I guess.

I was quite pleased with how it turned out and it's been very nice to hear the responses and feedback. Though yea the frame could use a bit more things.

I'll definitely keep that idea in mind for future works. Where I'll probably aim at an old style framed painting from the start. Should make the outcome a lot better

 

And of course also keeping family history open, in case I get a sudden idea for it or something.
