There's a lot of fictions sadder than MLD, the only reason MLD is hyped so much is because it's such a well known fiction, it's the first fiction for many bronies to read, I don't even think it's that good either.

 

"We are our habits" is one of my favorites.

"To fix you" is definitely worth mentioning as well.

There's a specific one, a Appledash fic that I wanted to mention, yet the name seems to keep slipping my mind. It's a very sad fiction, the one I have shed most tears for in this fandom. I'm sorry that the name seems to have dissappeared from my memory.

Some recent standouts:

 

Waiting -- immortality is a horrid thing. Made me just want to hug Luna forever and ever.

 

Final Dream of a Filly -- very touching, though a little heavy handed at times. It somehow reminded me of tragic films of death and redemption-too-late, like "Shutter Island", "What Dreams May Come", "A.I." and "Inception." However, the ending (and the author's explanation of his personal connection to it) just left me with a cold, empty, vaguely sick feeling that I couldn't shake for a while.

it wasn't entirely sad, as some tragedy, it's just sad cause you can't bond with the character, the life she wished to live is just a fantasy, and she tries to keep grasp of the cruel reality... plus that part when they talked about Rarity made me tear up a bit xD Edited July 22, 2012 by Q.
