What I am about to tell you is not really sad, but more of a peaceful sadness if that makes sense.

When lived in St. Louis, I lived next to this kind old woman named Helena. I was about 11 or 12. She worked at local bakery her whole life, but had been retired for quite some time. She always got free treats from there which she could only eat once in a while due to diabetus. So she would always bring over bear claws, cherry and cheese danishes. OMG they were awesome. :o

But one day, I was going to walk up the street to a local market to get some soda and candy, but Helena stopped me on the way because the key for her back door wasn't working. I told her I would help, but noticed she was carrying a large photo album and a note book. I asked her what it was and she said "The most beautiful and kind people of my family are in here. My children, grandchildren and everything I love is in here, and I feel I must read their letters and pictures soon." I said that was really sweet, and continued to try and get the key to work on the back door. She then made her way to the front porch where she would wait for me until my task was done.

After about 15 minutes of trying to get the key to work, the door still wouldn't budge. I figured I would tell her to come to my house and wait inside with the AC while we called a lock smith. I walked up onto the front porch and noticed she was asleep. Or so I thought. I tried to wake her but couldn't, and I knew what had happened. She died. Her hand was gently placed on a photograph of a child, where the picture was titled "my last love". Come to find out the picture was of her latest grandson.

Such a sad moment to see her go, but so peaceful and a bit soporific because she go to look through her photo album and read letters from her family before she drifted off into her final sleep. I will never forget that moment.

Probably when my mom and I walked into the MSICU to see my dad completely brain dead. The worst part was when we had to call my grandma to fly down from Maine, and when she stood there holding his hand. But, we already knew it was coming because he's been a drunk since he was a teenager, and started smoking soon after. He was also a drug addict, and he was recently diagnosed with cancer. But the funny part is that he died of a pulmonary embolism, which wasn't even cancer related. But, I consider myself lucky that we didn't have to see him go through chemotherapy, which he was scheduled to do a couple weeks later. I'm lucky that I still have my mom, cause she's my best friend.

As far as anime goes, I cry at absolutely everything so naturally I have a whole bunch of sad moments.

Ace's death and Merry's funeral in One Piece-

I don't really wanna post any from other animes, cause I'm gonna make myself cry some more xD

I'd probably have to say "Bridge to Terabithia". When I was nine, it was late at night and the movie was on TV, so I watched it. I expected it to be just like Narnia, but the movie was so sad! :'( I'm much more emotional at night.

Also, when I was watching MLP at like, 1:00 AM, I was watching it on Netflix and it was the episode "The Last Roundup". NETFLIX USED THE EDITED VERSION! D': I was crying the whole night because I didn't hear the real Derpy talk...

Not a patch on the stuff in this thread but Grave of The Fireflies is the most heartbreaking film in existence.

There's one thing I can think of which tops this though, and it's The Antler's album Hospice. It's a concept album which 'tells the story of a relationship between a hospice worker and a female patient suffering from terminal bone cancer, their ensuing romance, and their slow downward spiral as a result of the woman's traumas, fears, and disease.' (From Wikipedia) It's pretty brutal to listen to and the only thing I have cried at which has not physically affected my life in some way.

The saddest thing I have ever seen... To watch a loved one die slowly in front of you. The horror of watching someone who was once strong and great, now very weak and nearing the end of life. No one should ever go through such pain.

Just another background cat. Move along.

Has anyone seen Bridge to Terabithia? That movie has probably got me closer to crying than anything else... I don't show my feelings often but that movie really got to me.

There are a few other things pretty high up there on the list too, mostly from Naruto

I saw the 2007 version, and I read the book, God that made me sad, I think that's the only time I ever even shead a tear to a fictional story, it was just so...God, I could handle Titanic, and Marley and me, and much more, but that, when that person dies (being vague just not to spoil it) and that other person blames himself, and then...oh God, Every time I read it I cry

Oh, and episode 24 of the Digimon02 series always made me cry too, that one where Ken remembers his brother, but only in japanese, the english version didn't made me do a thing

And one time I caught a friend cutting himself, I felt sad for her, but I didn't confront her, so, yeah, I don't know if she still does it, but that's sad too

I've never experienced much shocking events through my life, but I have cried many times over some books, games endings and movies deaths.

The one I remember the most was the ending of Sonic Adventure 2. It may be silly, but it was the very first time I cried over a game.

I won't spoil, but if you're a fan of the Sonic games, I can guarantee that you'll be touched.

The true ending? Than one with Shadow?

When I played the game I didn't get a word of english (the game out when I was 4 and I played when I was about 8 years old) and well, I didn't get what had happened, but playing it again, it's sad, but it does not make me cry

Heh, I didn't knew much english back then as well.

But I think the sad music, added with some of the final cutscenes, was one thing I can blame for bringing me to tears.

I was quite emotional over silly things back then... Still am a little.

I becomes even more emotional when you learn the whole story of shadow, you know, with Maria and all that, I'm not going to spoil for those who are reading it, but it's dark, and nice, and everything you could expect from a great plot like this one

Forget the PMV, that wasn't as sad as what I saw recently. While daydreaming, I just happen to be in a fire team with my squad members, we happened to get ambushed and we were trying to hold off the enemies till we could get out of there and then we heard someone yell grenade incoming and we all ran back to cover, but we couldn't because there was no where to run, then one of our squad members jumps on the grenade and we got behind a wall to wall us from fire till we could fire back. Then we looked and saw our squad member on the grenade and we watched him blow up then the daydream ended.

Very true. I don't think there is another film that so poignantly shows the plight of kids who grew up in that time/place.

I have a very close friend that I've seen cry only twice, but it is the most heartbreaking thing to not only see someone you love suffer, but to not be able to do anything about it.

Check out the movie The Way Home (Jiburo) its a Korean film about a spoiled boy who learns to appreciate his grandmother and his family.

Perhaps I'm forgetting something worse, but here is the first thing that comes to mind. I was watching deer with my dad... he wanted to hunt, I just wanted to watch. So we were sitting silently in the stands and after a loud crack the deer tried to jump away instinctively, It hit the barb wire fence and fell. It turns out my dad shot one of the legs so it suffered a bit more than it would have. After that we had to drive it and clean it, but the worst was watching how much pain it was in for that short time, he said adrenaline kicked in, but I can't see that not hurting, and even if it didn't it was the end of a life then and there... I could never hunt.

One of my family's cats was like a best friend to me. Whenever I was sad, she'd always seem to know and cuddle with me. She eventually got cancer at age 8 and saying goodbye to her was probably the saddest things I've ever had to do.

I haven't experienced many sad things, especially not compared to what most of you went through.

I'd have to say that one of the saddest things I've read lately was The Book Thief. I couldn't stop crying... It was the only book that made me cry for a long time.

Also, there was an Auschwitz documentary that I watched. It was the most depressing documentary I had ever seen. At the time I felt empty and I couldn't cry about it, but it did make me feel awful...

So may things I could say, but they are so hard to explain. Real life circumstances... not like, over movies or anything.

Spoilering it because it's a bit of a sensitive topic. (death)

One that comes to mind is seeing my mum's friends daughter die. She had lots of problems with her body... and the doctors told her that it was a 70% chance she wouldn't last. The girl told her she didn't want it (she was under 10) But her mum went and said yes anyway. Last thing she said to her mum was that she hated her... she didn't survive to say the least. Whilst she was in hospital she knew she was going to die. She asked to be christened, explained to her mum that when she died, she wanted to be pulled in a white carriage and have lanterns fly up like at the end of the move 'Tangled'.

I wasn't around when she died, but when they brought her back, they had her in a room with the coffin open. They had her favorite movies just running on the TV. I only saw her once, before the actual funeral... and when I went in, it was the end of the 'Tangled' movie. I just sat and watched it, with her, I guess. I don't think I've ever had a bigger lump in my throat before. Her mum spent every last penny she had to have a white carriage with horses carry her throughout her funeral service. It was more upsetting for me, seeing her older brothers practically bury their faces into me and sob when I offered them hugs.

That was a hard day.
