Derpy Dash 233 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 First off, I'm not usually one who goes around trying to convert people. In fact, this friend is the the only person I know in real life who I've told I'm a brony (excluding my family) However, this is a little bit of a different situation and I would love to have this particular friend be a brony. Mainly because I really want an irl brony friend, but also he is a musician like me. Here is my situation: A couple weeks ago my friend was talking about how he watches all these shows with his little sisters, and at the very end he said the only one he can't stand is MLP. I didn't say anything, and I forgot about it until a couple days ago. I started thinking, "maybe he is a brony, I mean, he could of just said that because he didn't want people to know, just like me." So I decided to find out whether or not he's a brony. So today on xbox, I was talking to him on xbox about different youtube videos, and he said something like, "I can tell your out of videos to watch" so I said, "Well i can always watch my little pony again" There was silence for about 3 seconds after that, and then he said, "I can't stand the intro to that show, so I never watch it with my sisters." So now I know he is not a brony, has a negative view of the show, but, has never actually seen it before. I believe I could easily convert him, but I'm not sure of the best way. I am considering making a video explaining bronies, showing clips that really bring out the best of the show, and most importantly, since he is a musician, showing him fan music/art I think if he sees that there is such a huge and talented fanbase for this, then he might change his mind and become a brony. I want to know what you guy think. Do you think a video would be the best choice, or should I go about it differently? or should I just never bring it up again. I really, really want a brony friend who I can actually talk to, it would help me in so many ways.
PegasisterTaco 318 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Hmm... 1. Knock him out. 2. Tie him to a chair. 3. Show him MLP. 4. ??? 5. Profit. Lol jk jk! Well, it's really his choice of becoming a brony or not. Don't pester him in becoming a brony because that might just make you loose your friendship. It's really just a matter of time. He might one day get curious and watch it. Just continue on with your friendship and see what happens. Oh and tell him that the intro is the only girly part of the show. The rest is very MANLY. Life is an adventure. An adventure of mistakes, accidents, and misunderstandings. That's what makes life life.
Lacey Shadows 164 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Show him the .MOV series, those kinda helped the conversion progress for me Along with a bunch other memes. The Baron Vain's only favorite~
tanoshii 131 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 (edited) I'm not a huge fan of the idea of trying to convert people, it was one of the reasons that I started out a hater. If you're gonna do it, do it right. Show him some of the fan-made content, but on his terms. Either that or try and get him to 'catch you' watching it. With luck, he'll be interested enough to go and look at some by himself. Edited July 29, 2012 by Aigaion top lel
Bari 7,023 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Well, don't force it on him. Just show him a few things. Like maybe the fan art or fan music. I'm listening to some of the music right now, and it really is pretty awesome. Go about it VERY carefully. If you push it, the friendship could get strained. If he's interested by the fan work, show him what inspired it. And of course, if it doesn't work, don't bring it up every again. With hope, he'll become one on his own. Just be a friend about. Do it in way not to convert, but to share in it's awesomeness. Remember, we are not a cult. We are a fandom and a family.
Pinkazoid 3,493 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 1. Knock him out. 2. Tie him to a chair. 3. Show him MLP. 4. ??? 5. Profit. Well you pretty much read my mind there.... But just ask him if he could give the show a try, don't show him the BEST EPISODE EVAH! show him an average episode, so he can't expect the episode to be one of the bestest things, or that all the episodes are as good as that one.... I turned my friend into a brony by showing her Ponies the Anthology, and after that pretty much any of the fan-made videos.... :

~Lawful Jordo~ 2,066 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Never force it. If a non brony wants nothing to do with MLP, trying to get him/her to watch it will do nothing but piss them off. If your friend uses the internet a lot, there is no doubt he already knows about our community, in which case one of two things will happen: A. he will become intreagued and want to see what all the fuss is about or B. he will think it's all stupid and/or buy into one of the nasty stereotypes surrounding our fandom. Either case the change has to be natural and by HIS choice. One 498 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Convert people? Have them watch it, just plead and have them watch it. If they like it they like it, if they don't they don't just don't force them to watch it. I say you should never force people to like things and if he dosn't like it then just don't really talk about (because what if somepony kept blabbing about JB and how 'great' he is, when you hate him so much you have been planning his assassination for months.) This is a signature.
Zenoctilles 102 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Encourage him to watch it and to judge the show on its own merits. But if they don't like it, then don't push the matter any further.
GrooveBroove 680 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 (edited) lol THAT INTRO It really is the worst thing about the show. Really hope Season 3 gives a new one. Since even the "extended" version is no fun at all. Anyway as for getting him to like the show definetly don't start him with episode 1 and 2. 3 or perhaps one where the pony goes crazy might be a better start. Since you want to distance the episode as much as possible from the theme which seems to be the biggest hurdle. He's already watching shows with his sisters so he has the open mind set for the most part. So it shouldn't be all that hard, don't force it though since that'll leave a bad impression. My friends forced me to watch dexter and I just don't like it, and I think a bit of it was due to that. Edited July 29, 2012 by Jawmuncher
Derpy Dash 233 July 29, 2012 Author Share July 29, 2012 Or maybe what I can do is just show him an episode and edit out the title sequence completely.
SrFrog 927 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Quite a few people seem to have started watching the show after seeing some of those short random PMV's, so why not start there? If he's not keen on watching an episode a small derivative might be the next best thing. Remember to not be pushy if he's not willing to watch those either. Vido 37 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Don't shove it down his throat. If anything, tell him to skip the intro song. Show him fan made stuff, and hope for the best.
Slurpy 300 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Show them and tell them some stuff, but only do it once. Don't over whelm the person with the content or they will start getting annoyed with seeing it, and that's the last thing you want to happen. And guaranteed over time he will start getting curious and start watching the show. 1 Deviant Art | http://slurpynom.deviantart.com/
VizardJeffcolt 22 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 (edited) I think these two videos are all you'll need to help you out. Though I won't guarantee a conversion, which I doubt, there's a chance he'll at least lighten up on the subject just as long as you don't overwhelm him with it. First one up is Are Bronies Changing the Definition of Masuclinity? from the Idea Channel, then Bronies React to Teens React to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I'd recommend him to watch the second one first if he's familiar with The Fine Bros' material. Both vids don't necessarily shove the subject down people's throats, seeing that it's just showing the same idea from a different perspective. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=Est3UNs-LIk http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=7O3tAhQVU3k Remember: don't show him these to convert him; show him these so he can hear out your side of the story. EDIT: Hell, I can't stand the intro much either. xD Thank god for fast-forwarding. Edited July 29, 2012 by VizardJeffcolt

Perhaps~ 21 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 (edited) You're seriously trying to force somebody into liking the show? And some Bronies wonder why this fanbase gets hate... Just freakin' accept the fact that not everybody is going to like everything that you like and move on. Constantly pushing your friend to watch it is only gonna drive him away from it more. Critical Hit 69 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 What kind of music is he into? I can give you some awesome Brony tracks to make him listen to. Srs, just show him some of the music the fandom has made.

Thunderstorm 120 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Show him a video of MLP or an episode or something. If that doesn't work then don't try to force it on anyone. I hated bronies because of how they wish to convert, though if he has never watched it he should give it a shot.
Musix 237 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 I've tried also, But i've given up. If they watch an Episode and instantly love it, You've got a big change. Otherwise, Its alot harder...
