My theory is there's probably another sister or brother within the royal family. I mean there's prototype brother  Cosmos, in which they were thinking of adding him before changing their mind. I hope in S9 they will reintroduce him to the show.

I think that Cadence’s parents were killed by Sombra and Celestia and Luna adopted her or at least their parents did.  It sure if it’s canon or not but in a lot of fan fictions, Blueblood is considered their cousin even though he was adopted.
