In general, I think SciTwi is an interesting contrast to Pony-Twi (even when Pony-Twi is an EQG); presumably, this is how Pony-Twi would have developed if Celestia hadn't forced her down the princess route.

EqG versions of Rarity, AJ and Dashie aren't as good as their pony counterparts; Pinkie and Flutters seem about the same, and of course Sunset is unique to the EqG universe (and a former pony, so... yeah)

A lot of that of course is that the Pony characters are much more developed, being well established in their respective careers, while the EqGs are still at school.

Well, she does when Ponied Up - but otherwise is just really, really fast because Geode.

Sci-Twi didn’t have wrong intentions from the start though, so I don’t think the comparison between her and Sunset is the same  .

  No, although it has been suggested all the EqG "monster" forms were overwhelmed by the magic they had gained, and lost control to a single, dominant emotion (although in Sunset's case, she fully understood what she was stealing; Twi by contrast must have understood by the second or third example that she was literally draining the magic power from the students, but continued doing it, so is hardly devoid of blame)

  I feel that the line reflects Sunset's understanding - that she was "saved" by being given a second chance by those she had wronged - if you look at her pheonix song, or the forgotten friendship feature, you can see how much she owes to the huMane 5, and in literally reaching out to SciTwi, she was "paying it forward".

  In both cases though, Sunset and SciTwi were consumed by a selfish emotion, and became "nightmare" forms of themselves; it is interesting also to contrast with Gloriosa; while she was from one point of view acting out of a desire to protect camp everfree, it is hard to assert she was acting selflessly (hence her overwhelmed form was at best neutral, and shading towards evil). Sunset in Friendship Games was motivated by a selfless desire, so was shown as a much more pure, positive form. As she says herself, she became something beautiful - but she had let magic turn her into a monster too.

A mary sue = a flawed character that has been beaten over the head by the writers multiple times now? Nah... Fluttershy is way, way more of a Mary Sue than Rainbow Dash, considering she lacks pretty much any character flaws (being just 'shy' is debatable if it is an actual flaw, and as time has gone on she has lost that trait and is ultimately unrelatable to me), gets teacher of the month every month, her actions are never questioned when she can't be bothered to save her friends normally in Power Ponies and only does when an animal gets hurt and she never suffers the consequences for her actions, like pretending to be sick in Hurricane Fluttershy so she doesn't have to help with taking up water to Cloudsdale and stomping on RD's stomach in Dragon Quest.

@Nsxile Fluttershy is one of the most flawed characters I’ve seen in a show. She’s hardly a Mary Sue. Shyness alone is a massive weakness, but she’s also a weak flyer, lacks stamina, has little confidence in herself, is very sensitive, can be a coward, has stage fright, is scared of confrontation, has many other phobias, can’t fight and is incrediblely naive; Rainbow Dash is the polar opposite.
