That or the sudden impulse to save them knowing how important they are to me and how I'd feel regret if I didn't save them, or feeling terrible that they experienced such a fate.

Assuming that it's a situation where death cannot be avoided entirely, yes, my cat. I'm not even kidding, if somebody tried to harm him, I'd be there even at the risk of my own health and life.

And in another context, yes, bunch of strangers in form of my nation. I've sworn an oath, and I am willing to do my duty, because ultimately, I rather die, than live in what will follow if my nation falls.

Most conscientious people would likely say ‘yes’ to this question, but even the best-intentioned people, when suddenly faced with such a situation without time to think or consider other options, might give in to their impulses for self-preservation. Even the most adamant are subject to fear, uncertainty and instinct, so as much as I truly believe I would gladly die for someone else, only a true life-or-death situation can tell the tale.

I would like to say yes, but I don’t know. I’ve never been in that situation before, and the instinct of self preservation is very strong. I suppose only those who have been in that situation know for sure. I hope if it ever came down to it, I would make the right decision.
