I've been close to some of those mods, but it's sad to see them go, but anyways, thanks for putting this up, it helped a lot, and yes I won't leave the forums because you guys always brought joy into my seemingly gloomy life.

Bwahahahahaaaa! The less mods there are, the less I will be moderated! Who will put me straight when I start swearing!? And what about my warning points?! Where is this going???!!!

*Calms down*

These Forums need more active people. People that have hope in wars even if they are already lost.

This war isn't over. We must act! AS ONE!

Before these Forums die. We must fight back. Team up. Behave.

I hope these Forums don't die, and I have faith that these Forums will be immortalized as the #1 Brony Forum!

FOR FELD0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's this about wars and death?

Losing a couple staff members, even ones that have made great contributions to the community, isn't a sign of death or decay - it is, as one of the other staffers pointed out to me, simply the start of a new cycle.

Nobody here is paid to do staff work, so it's only natural that most of the folks offering up their time will eventually get tired of it and decide to leave. The entire point of this thread was to point out that while people have left, there's really no need to panic about it - change is a part of life, you can either ride the wave or be swept away by it.

Now, if Feld0 were to leave - THAT would be a different story.

Maybe so, but we can still worry about you guys being so overwhelmed that you need to start calling on endless reinforces so that you won't die at the hands of infinite amounts of posts and then your online accounts get used by others and then the first forum war starts on this site, everypony is trying to take control and such...right? I mean...I am worried you'll be overwhelmed (you can easily go "YOU UNDERSTIMATE OUR POWER!" on my face by the way. In fact, do it. I'll be less worried :) ).

Yes, but where a mod leaves, a hole is opened. And those holes will make the Forums weak, without pillars to support it, they will fall.

Every staff member is a pillar. The Forums are considered a building, and the building has pillars to support itself. Losing a pillar is not a big deal, but loosing more pillars is a very considerable lost. Those pillars are hard to replace. Each one is very expensive, and unique. If we replace those pillars with other common pillars, the balance might be broken, and it will crumble on a specific section, then spreading to others, and making the building that is the Forum fall apart.

Hmmmm...yes....yes...I like that! Now all we need is for Feld0 to make an awesome topic about "WE GOT THIS! THE SITUATION IS UNDER CONTROL! EVERYPONY CHILL THE BUCK OUT!" And the flames of doubt shall forever disappear in everypony's minds, and we'll be happy again!

Woah, Arylett left the mod team? That comes as a shock to me; she will be missed.

I fully support the addition of moderators; I didn't fully comprehend the position the department was in until I ventured on over to the staff list.

I lost my job today, so I may have to shake things up soon with a pre-season party. You have been warned, so prepare yourselves now. Think of it as practice for the real thing.

YOU UNDERESTIMATE OUR POWER.

Did you just quote Revenge of the Sith? Did you? Zoop, I am disappoint. Truly the forum is collapsing; any sense of decency has been lost.

As Zoop said in the OP, we're hard at work to maintain a fun and easygoing forum experience for everyone here. Moving closer to this forum's anniversary, we are aiming to get our ducks in a row.

Don't blame Zoop on the reference. I let him say it, so to speak  . Next time, I'll let him say something Doctor Who or MLP: FIM related?

I can assure you, if I quoted anything it was completely unintentional - especially if I quoted that. Give me some credit, here!

I think I can safely call this much ado about very little. While the staff members that have departed recently were all valued members of the community, the only realistic impact that their departure is going to have on us is possibly a slight increase in the time it takes for reports to get handled.

Honestly, some times a bit of disruption is necessary for true progress to be made. Fresh minds and perspectives can make all the difference in the world.

Just last week, I had a serious problem with some rose bushes. The darn things were growing wild and had become a serious nuisance to my new puppy. So, I cut them down pretty far. My neighbors were highly skeptical about this particular strategy, some of them even panicked. They figured that the roses would certainly die. Well, it seemed that way, but the roses actually sprung back within a matter of days. As thorny and beautiful as ever. The new growth that has taken place is much more appealing to the eye and will most likely be healthier for the plant.

The plant world is filled with examples of this. Indeed, nature itself is filled with examples of this pattern. Sometimes the old has to leave in order for the new to step into the light and shine. The departure of the old is not something to panic about. If the roots are good, the soil is nourishing, and the sun is bright, then there is really nothing to worry about. Everything will be fine.

Don't take the fault! It's my fault! I installed the idea in your head! I'm sowwy, my sovereign sir! :( Also, your last paragraph is something completely agreeable. I think it was my psychologist who mentioned a phrase by Henry Ford: "Our failures, are the keys to our success", or something similar. In this case, let's tweak that a little. "Our problems, are the key to our progress"

That is the best post I've have ever read. Best thing about it is that it's certainly true - just because we might lose several articulate members, doesn't mean we'll stop being the wonderful and awesome forum we've come to know and love! As much as we'll miss the old times, several new times will be right around the corner for us to enjoy.

The most important thing for us to do as members is step up and try to enjoy ourselves as much as we can - the hallmark of being a strong community no matter how many users it may have is by embracing the additions and subtractions that come and go from time to time, a tricky thing to deal with at first, but several veteran members on here give me that sense of hope that I look for who can set a great example for newer members moving forward. It's impossible to ignore the growth of the site, since it's expanding very fast, but as a community we have to set the goal to ensure that things will be enjoyable no matter what.

Hell, as much of an alarming realization this just was to me at first, we're a large community based on Princess Celestia's teachings of friendship - let's uphold her and Twilight Sparkle's values by sticking together through thick and thin, everypony. :)

Umm...Devin?...I don't know if that's the majority of people but...I think what most feared was, that since there were less moderators, some chaos would ensue, and not knowing if it would come up from there. As in, I don't think neither of us doubts the capability of the mods, Feld0, Scootacool and Zoop (actually, I did a few posts ago, which is why Zoop ended up quoting the Star Wars movie at my advice ...now I feel guilty  ) can handle it but...you know...not many of us actually know just how hard is handling a forum, let alone one this big. And since lack of staff means that chaos will be much more difficult to control...it's like Discord had an stronger and stronger influence until the new mods came in, them representing the Elements of Harmony. I think until that comes, the doubts aren't really going to disappear...but I really hope I'm wrong on that :)

Gah I can't stand off to the side and watch all these amazing posts shoot past me without putting my own say into all this.

When I joined the forums, there were around 2,000 members. Since then it's more than tripled, and the staff numbers did the same for a while. Now watching the forums continue to grow and the staff get sliced to pieces, I admit had me a little nervous. Then after some crazy conversations, nonsensical panicking and some thorough reading, I am convinced myself that these forums? They're staff are prepared.

The best plans are quite often the ones planned far in advance, and that cover many possible outcomes. If my last 7 months of being a part of this community have shown me anything, it's that you cannot underestimate the staff's power intellect. Honestly, I have not seen this much effort and planning put into any other community I have ever used.

This, is why I have no doubt that they will pick the greatest possible replacements and new staff members for this community. Feld0, Zoop, Jonke, and all the other staff care a great deal for the community, there's just sometimes a point where you can't keep doing what you did before and that is where change comes into play.

I knew that many staff would eventually disappear from this community (Admittedly I didn't expect it to be this fast.) but that happens at just about all forums. When that happens, the administrators pick out new ones and the loop continues. (Hi Jonke!) Sometimes they come with their own set of challenges but we learn from them, as Scootacool basically summed up.

Anyways, just wanted to finally say my opinion on all this. I look forward to seeing where the community goes in the future, and I'll be following every step of the way. ^_^

Anybody besides me feeling pretty chill about all of this? No? Make yourself a cup of coffee, get a long deep whiff of its earthen scent before taking a sip, then look at this picture of Bob Ross:
