MLP Forums turns 1 year old!

Yes, Feld0 and I created MLP Forums. I had to leave for personal reasons. I do visit every now and then but I don't really post a lot. I just check up on you guys.

 

So we'll chase him. Because he can take it.

 

He does this because Kurtiss isn't the hero we need right now. He's the hero we deserve.

It's been a great year here, sure we've lost many good members, such as Lobstarr,

Well, as far as the forum birthday goes, it went pretty well. There is so many thing I'm looking forward to, like the discussion we will have when season 3 starts, and the next april fools thing.

Ah...just posts like this that reflect back on the history of this site always make me wish I was here since day one. It wasn't until April last year when I decided a show about magical talking horses would change my life.

 

But since that month, this place has become like a home to me, in such a short time nonetheless. Is because of just how this place feels, the environment, the welcoming aura of the community, the people here...just every single aspect of this place is perfect. I'm more than happy for the overachieving success this place has had, and I'm even more intrigued to learn more about how it really all started. Now I'll die knowing I've read at least one of Feld0's emails.

 

The true goal of this fandom is reflecting off of the show's message, love, tolerance, friendship, and of course magic. While that may not be the motive of a select few, name one clopfic writers and bronies who force the show down other people's throats, the vast majority of the community is doing just that. This forum is a prefect representation of said fandom hence its great mass and friendliness. The show and fandom have changed my life, and this place is a big factor, as it's always in my tabs in Google Chrome.

 

Anyways, I'd just like to give out big congratulations, and an earth-sized thank you to all who are responsible for keeping this place alive.

 

 

-Feld0 and Kurtiss, for conjuring up the concept of a what-would-be-ultra-huge My Little Pony forum.

 

-the community and members, who help me strive to always have the urge to come back and never want to leave.

 

-IPS, for making such a fun, user-friendly forum software, that's loaded with extra-useful features.

 

 

In conclusion, I've never could've been more satisfied in my time here. It's just all too perfect. It's been that way since the very beginning, all the way through the hardships of the DDoS swarm, through the season 2 finale, all the way to now. Season 3 is up ahead, and I see nothing but light at the end of the tunnel.

So, MLP Forums is one year old.

 

It's been quite amazing, watching it develop. I came in during one of its largest membership increases, the January rush. I saw a community full of intelligent, thoughtful people who might enjoy some walls of text. Without even meaning to, I started expositing everywhere massive thoughts on everything pony, because I found the show so fun to analyze.

 

And people enjoyed them.

 

This was enough to keep me staying at the forum, despite a bit of a depressive low on my part around February. Eventually I somehow gained enough respect from Feld0, Zoop, and Swoop to be granted a moderator position.

 

This last three months.

 

I burnt out, in truth. I burnt out not just on the position of authority, but on the forum itself. As a moderator, what I saw of the forum very swiftly turned from the forum's beauty, grace, and intelligence...to essentially the gutter trash. I won't name names, but a number of individuals in particular that kept coming up made me bitter towards the forum. I was also performing far more moderator actions than I really should have been doing, to where I think I hit some five hundred in the span of about a month and a half. It eventually lead to my all too brief moderator break, then resignation just before a tonsillectomy, and finally a declaration of leaving the forum a couple of weeks ago that had already been pretty much true for some time there.

 

And yet...and yet...

 

And yet this forum keeps calling me back. I've been silently observing it over the past couple of weeks, watching not its failures, its failings, or its downsides, but the upsides. Watching how people interact, how friendships build, how the forum is going stronger than ever, and in truth...

 

In truth, I can't quit the forum. Not really. It's too good a place, too wonderful. I'm not sure how active I'll be for a while, at least till season three starts up, but I think I really ought to come back and give it another shot.

 

MLP Forums has already brought me a lot of good, as well as some heartache. Things are...in the works...that will bring me significant amounts more happiness, and I haven't been nearly as grateful to the forum as I really ought to have been. I'm sorry for that.

 

I want to tip my proverbial hat to the forum for all it's done for me so far, and for how fantastic it really is. Let's see it keep going. Let's see this place become the best pony forum on the internet, this next year. Let's make the rest of 2012 as beautiful as we can.

I'm going to be honest with you, i first thought that you were a douche, i was really surprised on how they picked you as a moderator.

But as time went on, i decided that i would try to talk to you. Somehow.

 

Do you remember the guy who kept switching IP in order to spam on me? Yeah, you helped me a lot and not just because it was your job, it felt like you did it because you really wanted to help me, and that made me realize how good of a person you are. I was surprised and i understood why they picked you, as a moderator. Not to mention that you have helped me a lot outside of the forum!

Props to you, Kyronea! Good to have you back!

I've already made a post in the unofficial celebration thread, here, and I shared a few screenshots from day one of the forums but there were a few screenshots I wasn't sure if I could share. Well, I got permission so here they are!

 

A little back story first:

Before the launch of MLP Forums, I was a regular in the pony thread on 3DS Forums, the site that Kurtiss came from. When I found the thread I quickly made friends with the other regulars including Kurtiss and one of our fellow section moderators, Tom the Diamond. It was during that time that Kurtiss started telling us about MLP Forums, a project that he and Feld0 were working on. It was because of that that I found The Wii U Forums, and subsequently, the resident pony thread on that site. For a while I frequented both threads and both Feld0 and Kurtiss would release little teasers to get us all hyped up for the new site. Well, that's where the following images come in. These are screenshots that Feld0 (Twilight Sparkle) shared with us during the development of the forums. These screenshots were taken in September, nearly a month before the forums' launch.

Back when I came here I skipped the Welcoming Plaza. Making a thread there just felt kind of awkward and I figured the best way to get to know people would be to dive right in. It worked out fairly well, I'd say. MLPForums is the best blend of community and content that I've found in my travels. Here we have a forum with the most decent and respectable people I've ever known and many of them are talented artists that have introduced me to some pretty cool things, things I doubt I would have dabbled in otherwise, especially when it comes to music. Sitting at my desk and talking to people here feels kind of like sitting at my kitchen table with them. The environment is chill and I feel completely at ease. I've never experienced that in a forum before (I've rarely experienced that in the real world before either). It's also nice how new people aren't completely shunned. There are some users - I could count them on one hand - that I'm not fond of, but nobody that I actively avoid. I don't know what shape I would be in now or what I would have done with myself if I hadn't found this place. And I can't tell you how much MLPForums means to me other than it's become a part of me. Maybe that sounds a bit excessive for somebody who has only been here for three months. Maybe it is. Whatever. To me it feels like it's been much longer. It hasn't been long enough for me to do much, there haven't been any momentous occasions in that time except for the incident with Ol' Sarge (whom I respect and hope returns), and I've yet to find any creative talent, but I feel like I have some kind of place here. Thanks everybody. Thanks for your hospitality and for your patience with me. I know I can be a bit trying at times and long-winded, but I really do have the best of intentions. Hopefully sometime soon I'll find a way to start giving back to you. Until then just know that you're all my very best friends and I care for this place more than any other.

But seriously though, I thank God everyday that I found this site. These are some of the most nicest people I have ever met. And it actually makes me not hate the internet so much. It help me though a lot of really tough times for me, and it gave me joy when no one else could. It was my go to place for stress relief and I hope it's hear for years to come!!!

Even though I have not been here the entire year, I still feel like I know this place pretty well. It's hard to believe that this forum has been up for over a year now. I am proud to call myself a pegasister every day because of the kind of loving community we have here. And I am proud to be a member of a site this big and popular every day. I still have no idea how i found this place but am I ever glad I did! The first thing I loved about this place was the nice site design. I LOVE the looks and cuteness of the site. The second thing I love about this site was the user base. I have met wonderful people of all types in here and I have little doubt that i'll meet many more. Love you guys and keep it up!
