writing Show Me Your Heart and I'll Show You the World (poem)

I found an unfinished poem I had written a while ago, and I decided to finish it. I ended up scrapping everything but the first two lines  .

Anyway, this is a love poem. I could probably really write Valentine's Day cards  .

 

As always, any comments or suggestions are very much appreciated. If you have any ideas of what I should write about next, I'd like to hear those as well.

 

 

 

"Show Me Your Heart and I'll Show You the World"

 

Show me your heart
And I'll show you the world
For no beauty can surpass that of your soul.

You transfix my mind with your tender grace,
And I'd die many times just to look at your face.
Your smile is so soft and full of sweet mystery,
And I love it so dearly when it's directed at me

None can compare to you, my sweet, sweet songbird.
Your splendor, quite simply cannot be captured in words.
You've shown me such kindness,
Which I've never deserved.
You've said to me things,
Which, before, I'd not heard.

Your charity is unmatched,
Your clarity, cool.
When I'm with you
I no longer feel like a fool.

You've given me love,
A hope I've never known,
And now I ask you, my love,
If you'd make me your own.

This poem is beautiful. You should really consider writing a book of poems by you. I've come across a few of your poems here on MLP Forum and they're just as good.  

 

If you don't mind requests I'd like to test you a little. I'd like to see how you do when it comes to writing dark poems. Most of your poems are positive so I'd like to see how you do if you had to write something that's noticeably different from your usual work that I've seen.

 

Do this only if you want to. I really don't mind that your poems have a positive ring to them.

I am not a huge fan of Poetry but I do like really good poetry. And that, I quite enjoyed reading. Keep up the awesome work

Thank you so much! I've considered publishing a book of poems, but I don't think I've written enough poetry for a whole book and I'm not sure how to start the process of publishing a book. I've only been published in magazines, anthologies, and on websites before.

 

Actually most of my poetry is either:

1. bleak and depressing or

2. very dark and macabre

 

 On occasion, I decide to write a happy poem, and I tend to post them here on MLPForums more than others because I don't think my darker work would be as well received here (also I'm afraid of getting in trouble for offensive content). I will probably either post one of my old dark poems tomorrow, or I may write a new one and post it. Just so I know, by "dark" do you mean grimdark, sad, or either?

Many things can apply to grimdark. Yes grimdark tends to be dark, violent, and bloody but it can also be sad if you wish. It's really up to you. I'm a big grimdark and nightmare fuel fellow so you don't have to worry about offending me.

I'll try to write a new horror poem for tomorrow that doesn't break the forum' s rules at all.  I'm a big grimdark/ nightmare fuel fan too (though I tend to keep that to my prose), but I'm always kind of afraid of offending people with it. I'm like a crazy, psycho Fluttershy, I guess.

I just looked over your poem you linked MelancholicMemory and I have to say I loved it. I wanted to have a little fun as I went through it so as I was reading I had another tab open on my browser with some ambient music that complimented your dark poem. It made the poem more intense. 

 

I'd love to see more poems like this in the future. I'll share some of my own with you as well. I'm working on a dark poem as I'm typing this message.
