(OOC: We're not letting this die.)

The wave had reached the ship. Several piles of rope slid down the deck as the whole ship started to angle forwards. Slicer gripped the helm tightly as the ship gained speed. The ship was surfing. Slicer laughed hysterically as the sound of the ocean and the rain all disappeared, The only thing that could be heard was the massive wave pushing the ship across the ocean.

Meanwhile, on the ENS Generosity a young ensign named Steel Accord sat in his quarters. He was drafting a story of a seapony prince who falls in love with a pegasus mare. He becomes hell bent on being able to join his love, but is divided between what he wants and his responsibilities.

"You would . . . give up your throne . . . for me?" She asked with a hoof to her breast.

"Would I could. But it would not be luxury I forsake. From which I could easily part with, but the well being of my subjects." He said with a frustrated slap of his tale against the rock.

The spray of the sea and crashing of waves echoed the Prince's agonized heart.

"I'll go then." Flitterfly said as she rose from the rock.

"What? Wait my love!" The prince called to the hovering mare.

"I'm just a factory worker from Cloudsdale. I'm not important enough to keep you from ruling a kingdom." Flitterfly's voice was strained and the Prince felt familiar salt water dash his face that didn't come from the sea.

"You're important to me!" In a flash he dissapeared beneath the surface of the sea. Flitter turned to leave, but heard a burst of water below her. The prince breached high into the air, and wrapped the pegasus in a loving embrace as the tumbled back down to the waves below.

Sputtering from the brief time spent-

"OFFICER ON DECK!" Came the command. Steel spat out his pen, dashed to his doorway, and stood at attention. The buson, stood at the end of the hall with a clip board suspended in his magic.

"Rotation." He spoke in crisp, military fashion. "The following have this shift. Waves. Albatross. Fishmael. Accord. Relieve your fellows."

"Aye, aye." Steel responded along with those called. Leaving his tale for later, he reported to the top deck and flew to the crow's nest. The look-out nodded in appreciation and left.

Steel scanned the sapphire blue ocean. While not as enthusiastic about his service as his father had hoped. It wasn't a difficult adjustment to make, all that time spent on airships (chiefly his good friend Fancypant's yacht) made him an ample sailor. And the drill and courtesy aspects of military life had already been instilled in him.

All in all, life aboard Generosity was only lacking in variety.

"It could be worse, but I do miss the occasional duel with Dad." Steel said aloud to himself while absentmindedly stroking his scabbards with his wings.

Taking a moment off his charge of the looking out, Steel glanced below to see a sparring going on below deck. Two earth ponies with cutlasses clenched in their teeth. They lunged at each other but got locked on each other's strong. They proceeded to growl and grunt at each other as they pushed against their opponent. "Why don't you stop trying to be cool and just disengage and stab?" Steel remarked with an eye roll.

"Maybe I should put in a request for a transfer?" Steel pondered. "Those ships on the Windigo Sea always see some action." Steel wasn't a thrill seeker or glory hound, but if was to be his one tour of duty he wanted it to be actually doing something! His mind made up, he resolved to speak with the Chain of Command about a transfer.

"Maybe The Arbitrator . . ." He thought with a hoof to his chin.

The storm set upon the Asylum like a force of Hell itself. Fade gasped as the ship rocked dangerously back and forth, pulled by the mountainous tide of the sea. She raced onto the main deck, slamming the cabin door firmly shut in her wake. All at once the sounds of the raging storm faded, leaving the whispers of the water, which quickly grew into the thunderous roar of waves crashing. The ship moved precariously atop the wave, causing Fade to stumble and call out in alarm:

"Captain, the wave! Has it knocked us off course?"

@, @,

Cascade's eyes grew wide as the interior of the ship tilted, almost to the point that the wall was becoming the floor. Tables were sliding around, and she was diving back and forth to avoid getting smashed by one. Other purple-clad pirates were pinned between tables and up against the wall. With a lurch, all the items in the interior of the ship flew, and a chair would have taken off her head had she not ducked in the nick of time. She couldn't bear it. She had to know what was going on.

Cascade secured a rope around a beam, and the other end was tied around her waist. She unsteadily climbed the stairs, and her ears flattened at the sight of the colossal wave that the boat was jerkily surfing on. It was easily thrice the size of the Asylum, at least. Cascade tried to move towards the captain, but the rope was pulled taut - it was not long enough- and with another jerk of the surfing ship it snapped, and Cascade was thrown, toppling downward into the torrential waves...

Slicer's smile faded as Cascade fell into the ocean. "FADE, TAKE THE HELM." He called to Fade as he ran over to the side of the ship. *This is just going to kill you both.* *Cascade may be the best swimmer in Equestria but she wont be able to take on the wave's...Nothing is more powerful that the ocean.* He thought, Taking a deep breath and diving into the same spot that cascade had fallen in. He felt her hoof, And before the giant wave could pull her down into the ocean he grabbed on tightly.

@@,

Cascade felt somepony grab her hoof as she was roughed around by the violent current, and that same somepony grabbed her and clung to her firmly. Whoever it had been - she couldn't see for the saltwater in her eyes - had been exceptionally foolish to dive in after her. She felt whoever it was being lifted back out of the water, and she was being brought along with whoever it was. When she was far enough out to blink the saltwater out of her eyes, all she could see was the blurry outline of a pony as she hacked and coughed up gallons of salty water. "S-slicer?" She gasped, realising who it was. He would jump in after her? He cared that much? She was shocked, but not as shocked as she was when she slipped out of his grasp in back into the water, back into the swirling darkness... At least this time, she had been able to breathe and prepare... She felt herself being swept away from the Asylum, on the counter-current that rode under the wave the ship was surfing... She thought she heard, garbled and far away, Slicer crying out in dismay...

Arcane got back on deck, and the place was a wreck. The crew was all over the place and trying to get things in order. "Why did I hire you all as my crew again?" Arcane asked redundantly. "Because were better than any others?" Orsino suggested. "Because we work well as a team?" another said. "NO! And... well, maybe. I don't actually remember why I hired all of you, but if you don't get things organised and functional, you will be looking for a job in the next week". The crew scurried around to try and get things together, Orsino gave a dirty look to the captain, making Arcane a bit confused.

Rambler looked up from the sail he had just finished freeing to see what looked like a figure being tossed about in the roaring waves.

"Thunderin' Jaysus is that- it is! There's someone out there in the water! We have to help them!"

Rambler tied a rope to his back hoof and tied the other end to the mast, before diving into the water. His strong legs allowed him to steer himself towards the drowning figure even in the fury of the storm. He was only barely able to control himself, but it was enough. He reached the pony in the water and grabbed onto them, then pulled himself back towards the ship with the rope. Fortunately, the pony was small enough that he was able to carry them while climbing back up the side of the ship. Several times he nearly fell off, but he was barely able to catch himself. Halfway up, his hands were raw from pulling on the rope, and if he hadn't consumed enough alcohol earlier that he was numb to the pain, he wouldn't have been able to hold on.

Pulling himself onto the deck he set the pony down and for the first time got a good look at them.

"Wait, I know you! You're the lass from the inn!"

Rambler looked closer and realized the pony he had saved was actually a mop. Alcohol does that to you. Sore, tired, and thoroughly embarrased, Rambler decided to return to his duties, as the ship was still being tossed about in the storm. This had been a strange night indeed, even by his standards.

Krystal ignored Rambler's shenanigans as she continued to maneuver the seas. The Peregrine met every wave with a hard slam, knocking everypony down on the boat. They needed to find land to anchor near and fast "Where's my map reader!" she called out through the wailing winds.

His valiant rescue behind him, Rambler turned back to his duties. Or he would have, except that, amidst the chaos of the storm, he really wasn't sure what his duties were at this point. He rushed over to the captain to ask for directions.

"Captain, the sail's free. What do you want me to do now?"

"Get a map and find out where we are!" Krystal replied "We've been sailing south for almost six hours now so in winds like these we should be almost thirty miles south of Casaflanca!" Krystal dodged a very large wave in particular, one almost big enough to damage the hull.

(I spent an unhealthy amount of time digging through the ooc thread for the map, but damned if I wasn't going to give the most enlightened answer I could.)

Rambler found a map and fumbled with it for a few minutes, "Well, Captain, it looks like we're on course for the mainland right now. If we make a hard turn east (portward, whatever), we should be on Stalympos before morning."

"Impossible" was all Fade could say, voice diminished to nothing more than a horrified whisper. She'd seen everything. Her fellow crewmate tumbling into the overwhelming might of the sea, fearing for both her and the Captain as they'd struggled under the violently roiling water. Keeping a tight grip at the helm was all she could do not to dive in after them. But it was too late now. The feeling of hopeless weariness settled upon her

Cascade stirred faintly. The sky seemed to have calmed. She felt sand where she lay. All was peaceful. She could hear the sound of the waves pounding against the shoreline, and saw the blurry outline of a face hovering above hers, speaking words that sounded like total gibberish to her waterlogged ears. She slipped back into the swirling darkness as she felt herself being carried somewhere...

She came to, once again, however this time, the sun was halfway through the sky. She could see clearly, and all the water had been drained from her ears, and from her eyes. She could see. She sat up, and realised that she had been laying, propped up in the shade under a palm tree. She looked around, and saw a handful of other ponies, all wearing togas, all female, and all... They all had the same wings as she did... The same wings with fine feathers that couldn't fly...

Red finished taking stock and stowed all his things back in his bag. As he was opening the door, something fell to the floor behind him. Looking back, he saw a map and picked it up, rolling it and putting it at the bottom of his carry-all. Better look at that later.

"Sir... We..we can still go back. We'll turn the ship about and search the waters! Sh-she can't have been washed that far!" Fade found herself struggling to keep her usually stoic composer, "She wasn't appointed second in command for no reason, I know she's strong enough to get through this!"

The voice almost made Cascade jump out of her skin. She looked around wildly, looking for the source of the voice. (OOC: Did we ever say what the name of the Equestrian port city was?)

Snowy somberly stared out at the sea from the deck of the Arbitrator. The storm had been far more dangerous than Snowy had expected. Lightning had struck one of the masts, effectively neutralizing any speed advantage the Arbitrator had over any Pirate ships. The strength of the winds had made flight all but impossible for everypony on board, which resulted in the death of many of the ponies that had fallen overboard. As soon as the storm had cleared up, Snowy had ordered for the Arbitrator to return to the nearest Equestrian port for repairs.

((I don't believe so, but on my as of yet unofficial map it's called Pensacolta, after Pensacola, Florida. It's on the northern segment of coast bounding in the sea. Even if that doesn't work out, we can recycle the name.))

She could see that her mother's wings were just like hers, and everypony else's on the island. Evidently the confusion was still showing on her face when her mother released her from the hug, because she began talking. "I'm so sorry I didn't get to watch you grow up, Cascade. I'm so sorry I never knew you. I had to return here. I didn't have a choice."

"What... What do you mean?"

It's no coincidence you're drawn to the water, like no other pony is." Cascade's eyes were wide at this point, as she stared at her mother. With a prideful flutter of her flipper-wings, Mother said, "Cascade... You're a Naiad."

Steel Accord saluted his commanding officer at Casaflanka port.

"You're a good pony, Steel. I hate to loose you." The Captain said.

"I know Captain. Nothing personal, I just don't want to go home to dad and not have anything to share with him." The Captain nodded.

"I understand son. Good luck on the Arbitrator. Watch your step here. I hear this port is trouble." Steel took that into account and went about his way.

The port certainly looked . . . metropolitan. He thought as he passed a particularly inebriated donkey drinking from two steins at once.

Steel trotted into a bar. Again . . . diverse. Their were ponies of all stripes in here. (Zebras with stripes too!) Griffons aplenty, even a few Diamond Dogs. Sailors, smugglers, pirates, mercs, explorers. No matter their race, trade, or reason for being here they all had one thing in common . . . they were all looking at Steel as he walked in.

Steel was wearing a simple naval uniform, like a few others in the bar. The difference was his was pressed and cleaned.

"Fresh off the boat." He heard one spit. Not even bothering to whisper.

Steel dropped some bits onto the bar.

"Just some water please." He asked. The bartender grunted and hoofed Steel his drink. The glass was dirty but the fluid looked drinkable at the least.

Steel was drinking when a scrawny diamond dog with a bandanna approached him.

"Hey Pony!" He prodded Steel roughly with his paw. Steel turned to him.

"Yes?" He said with a bored tone and raised eyebrow.

"You navy pony right? You got better pay?" He grinned with a yellow maw.

"Yes, I AM navy. No, my pay grade isn't anything exceptional." Steel downed the rest of his water. Then felt a blade on his throat.

"Why don't you put money pouch on bar and prove it?" The mugger asked. Steel didn't try to act tough.

"All right! Just, take it easy." He nervously leaned to his side to reach for his bag . . . then slammed his head back into the mutt's snout.

He whimpered and Steel went to all fours to buck his attacker away. The mugger shook his head to recover but Steel lunged at him, pinning him to the table behind him. Steel drew his sword and pressed it to the dog's throat.

"I heard there were cutthroats here in Casaflanka." Steel said through his teeth clenched around the hilt. "I'm guessing you don't want that statement to be descriptive."

DING-DING

The port bell rang. Which meant a ship was docking.

The mugger's eyes were wide with fear as Steel slowly backed away and returned his weapon to it's sheathe.

He turned to leave the bar.

"Saved by the bell."
