So I made a ponysona...

I decided out of the blue to make a ponysona based on an OC which I never got around to finishing. The art style is different than usual for me, and there are probably a couple problems with the art because I based it on a drawing which I had made almost a year ago. I still think it turned out pretty well though. I put a lot of work into the CTM, in particular.

Flat colors:

Shaded:

What do you think?

Hm, this is interesting. I just watched 2 episodes in a row of Sweet Genius so I might be a little harsh with my critique (oh well).

Remember when I said it was interesting? I meant it in a good way. The cutie mark is creative and new, though I would like to know what it represents. From what I see it's a heart with wings.

I definitely like the drawing better with shading, but I'm not sure you shaded correctly. Is the light source coming from the top right or top left or top center? You might want to make that more clear, because I can't correctly critique your art without knowing.

The legs need to be worked on. The front legs are diagonal, so they make your ponysona seem like he's leaning forward. Make the legs straighter, and the drawing will be less awkward. The back legs are fine except for the fact that they go up too high on his body. it's like drawing a person whose legs go up to their belly button. Easily fixed.

The mane is fine.

The head is a little too big and round. Add just a little more edges and straight lines (but not too many). Also make it smaller.

The flank is too flat. The top part, where the back becomes the flank, that is - you might want to make it rounder.

I like the nice touch you added with the glasses - they make you look scholarly and smart. Good job on the eyes, too. They have personality.

Pretty much what was said above me.

Looks great! However, I'm kind of wondering what the cutie mark represents. Good and evil, or something else? :P

Watching this rise a question (good job with the drawings by the way). What's the rule of ponysonas ?

Are they supose to copy the physical atributes of the drawer, or represent him more mentaly (kinda like a persona)?

Ps: what tool did you used for this drawing ?

I don't know what Sweet Genius is, but thanks for the kind comments and constructive criticism. :)

I changed a few things based on your critique. It' s not a tremendous difference, but there are subtle improvements, and I made the shading more clear (light from the top left). I also straightened the legs a bit more.

I think it really depends on the individual's choice. Mine is designed to reflect my basic physical characteristics and also my personality to some extent.

I used an app called Sketchbook mobile on the Amazon Kindle Fire to make this picture. I also used a stylus designed for the iPad. I then cropped the image on SumoPaint on my PC. :)

that's pretty sweet. prolly better than what i could take a shot at. i tried to draw the mane 6 and failed miserably. but check out this ponysona

Thanks! I wonder why anyone would make a ponysona, or even an OC, that was that sickly. Why design a character just so he can probably die? I can understand wanting to make a creepy OC, as I have my own grimdark OC, but that is just odd. It is pretty well designed and if someone wants a character like that, it is they're prerogative.

You made this with an IPAD  .

Now I'm realy impressed. It's seems like it's an unprecise tool, but nage to give a good result.

Have you ever considered basic (but omigad soooooo good) hand drawing ?

Yes, I actually just got the tablet recently, but I've been drawing traditional art for years. If you go to my profile, the background is a picture of Fluttershy Made with colored pencils. The tablet is less precise than pens and pencils, but it opens many possibilities for me as an artist and I'm used to dealing with what I have when working on creative projects so I find a way to work with it as best as I can.

It' s a general symbol for my creativity and way of thinking. It encompasses my art, writing, music, and basically everything else I do. Every part of the cutie mark is a symbol.

The heart represents emotion, thought, and the mind/ spirit in general. The color of the heart, blue, is both to keep it from being confused as a red heart (love) or a gothic black heart (lack of love), while also representing a sense of serenity. The rainbow border represents the vast spectrum of things in my imagination. The wings represent how imagination lets the spirit (heart) soar. The bat wing and angel wing represent the dark and light sides of my work. Sometimes I create horrifying grimdark pictures or stories, and then immediately afterward write a love poem or draw ponies. That' s the symbolism of the wings. I admit, it's kind of a complicated cutie mark, but most of my previous OCs had very straight forward cutie marks, so I wanted to try something more abstract.

Wow, I need to read usernames more closely. So he' s a zombie. That makes a lot more sense.  ^_^ Please, disregard what I said before. I had a derp.

And you'll find it by practicing again and again, that's the spirit ;)

Thanks! :D  You can find my deviantART here: http://thecornman.deviantart.com/ though I mostly post poetry, and silly little doodles.  I'm, honestly, much more of a writer than an artist. I should really get around to writing some fanfiction some time...

Sweet Genius, my dear, is a show on Food Network. It's a show where in each episode, 4 chefs compete in three rounds, and each time one chef is eliminated. The last chef standing is the next "Sweet Genius". The guy hosting it is the original Sweet Genius and his name is Ron Ben-Israel and he is a harsh, harsh critic. He also has a quite interesting French accent.

  • 1 month later...

made another pony, check it out:

Princess Black Heart: like nothing, hates everything. Bent on making sure that when she's not having a good day, then no one else is either. Seeks to rule Equestria, the Crystal Empire, and beyond and will do whatever it takes to do so.

Strong constantly trying to hijack the thread =_=" You might want to post your OCs in a blog post or create a character page instead.
