What if "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" had been named something else?

I've been reading a lot of articles on us, and one common theme is the disbelief that we like a "show for little girls". I then thought "what if the show had been called anything else?" It could have been called something like "Adventures in Equestria" or something. I can't help but wonder if people would give us as much hate if the show had been named anything else besides "My Little Pony". What do you guys think?

A name is a name, and since a lot of the hate is the "judging the book by its cover"-type, maybe there would be a lot less people hating on the show without having attempted to like it.

Do you accept it?

Equestrian Advetures would've make people giving it a try earlier. At least, for some people, MLP has a stigma of being "girly" (and yes, that was my first thought too before I watched the show). But hey, don't forget the famous words of Yoghurt the Wise:

"My Little Pony"  definitely attaches a powerful stygma to it.  I mean, all anybody who isn't a fan of My Little Pony really knows about are the bits like "Pinkie Pie's Lady Bug Jamboree" and things like that...really frilly, girly stuff.

That said, they connect those dots, make that assumption, and pretty much remain set in their belief that only little girls should like the show.

Possibly, but some stigma would still be there because of societies arbitrary judgment about cartoon ponies supposedly being for little girls and only for little girls. When I first found out about the brony fandom I was more than a little confused because I myself had that perception but generally thought it was harmless and didn't really like all the hate directed toward them.

i guess there could possibly be more haters or less haters based on the title.

what if it was called my little pony:adventures in ponyville? i don't know if we'd get more or less haters

I was thinking about this earlier today and i do believe the title makes it sound more for girls than it really is.

Equestria Time, anyone!?

I think that there would be fewer preconceptions sure, because MLP is a franchise that's ingrained itself into the public consciousness for the last few decades, like GI Joe or Barbie. But the idiocy wouldn't be gone completely.  People are too judgmental and hung up on image to let it go completely.

The fame of the Brony community would definitely have dropped if it were called Adventures in Equestria, or any manlier title than "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic". When you explain Bronydom, you have to mention that title, and that title alone is instantly associable with small children. Call it Adventures in Equstria, and nobody would bat an eyelid. They would still find the show girly, I guess, but not from first glances - it'd also make it easier for them to notice how the show doesn't insult its viewers by being too frilly, and actually being a straight-off-the-mark smartly done show.

Speaking of which, do you think more people would read the Bible if it were called The Adventures of Jesus and Friends?

"Minute lifeform of the equine family unto which ownership is claimed by myself: companionship has the attributes of sorcery". Can't see many people understanding the title well enough to determine what it is lol. Certainly wouldn't be thought of as girly by haters if that was the name they heard.

Yes.  It's very off putting.  Even to someone whose loved MLP a long time, before FiM came to be. (me)

But I somehow adore the name.  Its like 'I watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.'

'O rly?  That's a little girls show.'

'Have you watched it before then?'

'No.  But I don't need to.'

'Then I don't really give a f***.'

(Well...no.  But I like the name for some reason)

that's a very good realization. What if "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" was named something else? I think the fandom wouldn't be as big as it is now, and the show not as popular as it is now. What ruins/attracts, at first glance, about this show is the name.

Let's face it, many became bronies, because of curiosity, knowing the target and the audience of MLP before gen4, WTH!? grown ass men watching a show for little girls? what it's this? I must check this out, and the name of the show pops up. If the name was different, there wouldn't be controversy, morbidness, social disputes and more. Perhaps bronies wouldn't even exists.

It doesn't matter if the show and the fandom gets negative or possitive feedback, we are in the mouths of everyone in the internet and that gives us popularity, no matter what. Just my 0.02$

They chose that name because it really sounds like a girls name for the show, however i think you may notice that a lot more if you are a male brony. Anyways, the name is pretty cool and it has stuck around since the 80's.

Use the MLP:FiM abbreviation, or just MLP, people not too aware won't notice it is the title of the show. It gets away pretty easily.
