Hello everypony, I have a question that has been bugging me for awhile.  Are there any game designers in our midst?  I kinda wanted to start making games but first I want to know if any of you do.  If you do and have a game that you finished you could also post the link so we can try it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and I hope to read and respond to a lot of good topics that other ponies come up with as well.

I'm not a designer so much as I am an aspiring game design hobbyist. I'm a novice programmer that works primarily with Python so I've been looking through the Pygame documentation as I hear that's a good place to start. Beyond that I haven't done much at all but I really do hope it'll both improve my general knowledge of Python and also be enjoyable to make games that I like. I have many ideas for games but not the know-how or skill to pull them off so I want to really get into it.

I'm a university student, last year we had to learn XNA and develop our own windows or Xbox based game, I would say that XNA was a good starting point for me, due to its similarities to C#. It's also a nice logical language to use, plus it is compatible with PC and Xbox games and 2d and 3d games.

Try out XNA if you are serious about game development.

To start with XNA you'll need to get Visual Studio(it's free from Microsoft's student section) and the XNA plugin(It may have its own standalone pack by now, we used an old version)

I'd made/designed/been part of/programmed many games, but unfortunately, none of them got finished. I have some kind of project ADHD :P If making Flash games(the ones on Newgrounds, Kongregate, etc.) is what you're looking for, FlashDevelop is your best friend. PM me if you need help. :D

Hell yeah! I've been programming in GML (Game Maker Language) for about 4 years now, and I've really gotten good at it. I've actually been working on my dream game for a while, but I kinda forgot about it. I need to resume work on it, because I have a great idea for it.

Hello!

Not sure if it counts as a "Game designer", but i used to be a map designer. I used to create maps for games such as Counter strike 1.6, that means, i used the program "Valve hammer editor". It was fun, got quite a liking from the people that played my games, but later it just got boring and to time consuming...

I really wish I was a game designer. I could probably help Treyarch with some lag and connection problems in Black Ops II.

Could be my future job, I'll never know.

The lag issues on Black Ops 2 are server based, get a qualification in networking or server management ;)

I used Game Maker when i was younger, i find it to be rather decent at teaching program logic without having to know real programming  when you say you use GML do you mean you actually code it or do you use the drag and drop?

I used to love making maps for CSS ^^

It would possibly come under "Game Designer" as it would be under the title "Level Designer" which can be a role of a game designer.

I mean code. Occasionally, there'll be a function that I don't know how to express in code, so I'll use this program that converts DnD to code.

I'm not really a game designer, but I've done a few programming projects. Nowadays I mostly program in Java, or C/C++ when I'm programming microcontrollers (I do a lot of electronics too).

A while ago I did make a zombie survival minecraft plugin which periodically sent waves of harder and harder zombies until everyone was dead. Somebody else is maintaining that now though.
