Clannad- didn't make me cry tongue.png

Clannad After Story-img-1968281-1-sad.png img-1968281-2-sad.png img-1968281-3-sad.png img-1968281-4-sad.png img-1968281-5-sad.png

Yeah..... I guess I'm not so emotionally death after all.

Everyone's told me to watch Clannad. I saw AIR and I feel that's good enough--AIR was absolutely amazing.  I'll reiterate this for anyone who's not seen it.

Naoki Urasawa's Monster. (Srsly it's amazing)

I refuse to watch the Key trilogy.  I don't like watching shows that just make me depressed.  BUT that does not mean I won't reccomend it.  If you want an anime that will tug at every heartstring immaginable, then watch the Key Trilogy....especially Clannad and it's After Story.

I've seen seen all of the key trilogy.... or pyramid if you want to add Angle Beats. but I haven't been depressed watching then and there have only been 2 maybe 3 scenes I have cryed to, all in Clannad After story.

Well if you want some reassurance, Clannad made me laugh allot more then it made me cry (especially from a certain incredibly moe character in the show).

And I would chose something to lift your spirited after for example I watched a show called Carnival Phantasm just after Afterstory.

heres the OP for CP too :P

Another week, another anime of the week

and this weeks anime as chosen by a sticky dart being thrown at my anime collection is

Fate/Zero

Written by Gen Urobuchi aka the man behind Madoka Magica, Psycho Pass and more recently Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (all pretty big and awesome shows).

Produced by Ufotable who have done the Kara no Kyokai movies (My fave series of movies), Sonic X, Mobile Suit GUNDAM Seed and some other things too.

Now for the plot-

This is a prequal to Fate/Staynight, taking place 10 years before this is a tail of the 4th Holy Grail war a battle royal forming of seven masters who range from mages to mage hunters to priest to psychopathic killers each with there own Servant, Legendary warrior who have had there name marked in history either by conquering kingdoms, to folk legends to committing mass atrocity.

These Masters and there Servant must kill one another in order the obtain the Holy Grail which will grant the winning Master and Servant there wish.

And now I will sum up this show in one word. EPIC! with beautifully designed and complex characters  and animation, a great musical score.

One thing I truly love about this anime are the servants, with me being a massive history and folk lore geek I had fun guessing the Identity of the Servants (at least the ones that gave me time to) and I got 6 out of 7 spot on :P.

http://www.crunchyroll.com/fate-zero < you can watch Fate/Zero here for free

And one last thing, this opening is epic :D

I'm not saying the shows are depressing...they just make me depressed...I mean like with Clannad, what if what happened in the story happened to my husband? I would not be able to move on from that...What I mean to say is that my mind does a whole "what if" thing by applying events from shows to real life.  The more surreal it is (take something like the Dragon Ball franchise for instance) the less I am able to do that, since it's fantasy and all.  But shows that some sort of IRL possibilities I do that kind of thinking, and when I do that about any sad-inducing anime, I just get depressed....

Anyway....Fate/Zero...Frick YEAH!!!! About time too. pardon my pony, but I say this Fate series is 20% cooler than all the others :P XD

I shall share some of my favorite choices of anime with those who wish to listen. I prefer anime that has a concrete storyline, a start middle and an end as opposed to anime that lasts over 100 episodes. As such the following are some of my favorites:

Cowboy Bebop

Hellsing

Paranoia Agent

Gurren Lagen

Cat Planet Cuties

Blue Seed

I used to be a fan of Trigun but I really hated how the series ended. Samurai Champloo was very fun to watch but the ending was very abrupt and the enemies shown felt like they were thrown in at the last second to give conclusion.

I am a fan of the Dragon Ball's Manga but I have a big distaste for DBZ. I feel the Cell Saga was the only worthwhile saga in the entire franchise. It is mostly due to all the plot-holes and other issues I keep finding such as lack of character detail.

Any suggestions to other anime in vein of the ones listed would be appreciated.

I'm currently following a few animes of the current season;

Golden Time, Non Non Biyori, Nagi No Asukara and Log Horizon.

I wanna talk about Log Horizon since it is another take on the "getting stuck in a game" anime.

While hack and Sword Art Online both did a great part on the drama between characters, It didn't really feel like they were inside a game for me.. More like a fantasy world.

Log Horizon however has the visuals and "playstyle" as a real MMO with cooldowns and specific roles such as Damage, healing and tanking.

It feels a lot more relatable for gamers since it actually feels like they are in a game with mechanics they know off.

The drama also isn't as heavy compared to Hack and SAO.. Is this a bad thing? I don't think so, I think they can throw in a little more physiological stuff.. In order to balance out the action and comedy.

I must also mention that you can follow the track of time.. Since in SAO they would suddenly skip tremendous amount of time and in hack you could never really tell. This both had their appeals and plot reasons..

But I like to be with the characters most of the time.

That said, I'm really enjoying Log Horizon so far.. What about you guys?

Hey! >:U Legend of the Galactic Heroes has over 100 episodes and is considered a classic in anime due to its amazing story.

I might check Fate/Zero this weekend, sounds really interesting. Although I've been recommended Kill la kill first, I'll see what I go for P:

Perhaps it does but I find that anime that go over 100 episodes get dragged out far too long, have too much filler, and just end up disappointing in the end (DBZ, InyuYasha, etc)

I just finished the first season of Hajime no Ippo. (76 episodes)

..and it was surprisingly fun to watch, I'm often not that keen on sport animes.

Off to the next one!

I just finished the 25th episode of Attack on Titan. It was a great show, and I'm sad that it's over...for now, that is. Now I just have to wait for new episodes to come out.

I started Deadman Wonderland today as I keep hearing it's a great show. It's a rather strange show, but I'm going to give it a chance and keep watching.

Kill la kill I've been watching myself since Silver Spoon and Watamote ended.  It's like Gurren Lagan (i'm a bad speller) on steroids minus the crazy mechs. Studio Trigger is a making a name for itself (especially with the crazy sloppy style animation)

I'm actually kinda liking the sloppy style of animation because it gives it a rather unique flair. I'd rather have that than the overly detailed realistic animation. It wouldn't really fit Kill la Kill.

So I've been watching Fate/Zero and it's really good. I'll definitely be looking into the rest of the series. I've seen up to episode 18 so far.

But man, all the masters are so dark. Kariya seems to be the only master fighting in the war for a good reason and even he is soaked in darkness and despair. Poor Sakura; that worm pit is pretty sick.

I really liked the duel that was going on between Saber and Lancer. I can't believe Kiri would trample all over their pride as knights in such a ruthless way. That was... wow.

Then there's the discussion the kings had and the argument between Rider and Saber. I'm conflicted: on one hand, I admire Saber's ideals, but on the other hand I see where Rider is coming from; I agree with  both of them to an extent. Still, the whole "I no longer see you as a king" thing was pretty harsh.

Ah well, took a look at Kill la Kill - definitely not an anime for me :P You know when the main character has such an outfit you're in for a series of lame, unfunny, perverted jokes that have been done 100x over or some weird scenes. I really don't see the appeal in it.

Although then I'm usually asked what do you expect from anime :P

I must say the animation was real nice and I like the retro feel with the drawings themselves.

K managed to drag my self away from Pokemon Y to leave a comment here tongue.png so incoming wall of text.

@@Treble Bolt,@, The thing/problem I have about the animation and art direction from Kill la Kill is that it doesn't advance from its ancestry (Gurren Lagann). Since Studio Trigger is a production company comprised of the team and creators of Gurren Lagann (and half of the FLCL crew) you would exspect the animation to advance like how the other production company such as Kyoani and IG, but they haven't which to me is kinda disappointing.

But that's just a minor thing since Kill la Kill is pretty much a popcorn flick which is better to watch with you brain switched off and I'm rely enjoying it so far. (But I'm enjoying Beyond the Boundry, Log Horizon and Golden Time a hell of allot more)

@@Mutemutt,

Actually I would say allot of the master are fighting for a good reason.

Waver Velvet- Is fighting for recognition of his ability or in another way to show his power by conquering the grail which is why he's is the master of Rider aka Alexander the Great.

Tokiomi Tosake- Is fighting so he may obtain the root of all magic which was once the goal of all magi until "sin clouded there path" making his goal somewhat the purest of the masters.

^ These two in my opinion are the only two with good intentions for the grail.

@@Fubz, Never judge a book by its cover or even my a few pages. And that's all I'll say about the story and writing in Kill la Kill with out dipping into heavy spoiler or deeper things from this show which is as dumb as Gurran Lagann tongue.png

AND NOW BACK TO POKEMON Y :D

Also I shall be posting the next anime of the week up tomorrow.

Well, there is that of course, but there's also a deeper meaning to the "sexy" outfits especially if you reach episode 4 iirc. There's an actual literary meaning to the outfit which is about being comfortable in your own skin, to not be embarassed to show who you really are. In doing so, you can be a much stronger person than before. It's an added bonus that you get to watch eye-candy in the process of realizing this ;)

Hmm, I don't find animation advances to be all-important tbh. Good animation can still happen with less advanced technology anyways so it doesn't really bother me. Plus, there's been countless series which are considered even classics whose animation would be deemed horrendous now.

On another note, I watched Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods this weekend. Maybe quite a few will disagree with me even here, but that movie trumps any hollywood shit that's out these days.

Ok time to throw a rubber dart at my anime shelf.

Madoka Magica..... no. Evangleon..... no. Clannad.....no.

Hmmmm I think I might break my rule of not setting recently aired anime as the focus anime and pick an anime from each season of this year before doing a big anime of the year thingie. Also this will only be limited to show aired/streamed on Crunchyroll.

So for winter we shall go with.

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (My Girlfriend and Childhood Friend fight too much) or Oreshura for short.

Also this will be the first Harem to be discussed here :3

Not sure which seasons they are, but I think two contenders for AoTY are easily Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko and Uchouten Kazoku. Especially the latter, but I absolutely enjoyed those two the most so far this year. Golden Time and Kill la Kill might turn out to be good, but I have my doubts they could top Uchouten Kazoku.

Yeah, I'm also quite a big anime fan. Currently watching Kill La Kill, Hetalia Season 2 and a few other things. Cowboy Bebop remains as my favourite anime of all time, with Nichijou and the original Ghost in the Shell movie also being right up there. Speaking of this year though, there really hasn't been many standouts for me personally. Besides Kill La Kill and Dangan Ronpa, there was nothing I went out of my way to watch that came out regularly.
