open The Scattered Elements (RP)

THE WILD HUNT

Recommended Posts

~It was just another day in Equestria, that is until the weather began to go haywire. Blizzards and floods began to be a common sight, and droughts would scorch the land. Perhaps these things would've been considered bad luck, but no, because the unnatural phenomena occurred in places where they should not have. Life for the desert's inhabitants became miserable because of the unnatural cold and rain, as did all life in all sorts of environments. The natural balance upset, everything was a chaotic flurry of the weather, which extended to more disastrous things such as earthquakes and tsunamis. Soon enough, the cause for these events was discovered, the draconequus, Discord. Caught off guard but determined to stop him, the Six Elements of Harmony rushed in to try and stop him, but were stopped and captured by Discord who then seperated them throughout Equestria and to far off lands ancient and long forgotten. The Royal Sisters have given the announcement to all the citizens of Equestria, to muster up their courage and join with others to go and rescue the lost Elements.~

Kreinbahthur paced around slowly on the marble floor of Canterlot's palace as he waited for Celestia and her informants to show up and brief them on the exact situation. Not that anyone needed briefing on what was going on anymore, because it had become quite evident that the traitorous draconequus, Discord was the cause of everything. Still though, a little more information wouldn't hurt, and apparently the Royals had gotten word of one of the lost Element's location.

As Krein waited for the Royals and for any other recruits to show up, he stopped by a window to see how things were going on in the outside. It wasn't as bad as it had been a few hours ago, but it seemed as if another storm was imminent because of the amount of pegasi flying around nervously.

"Wow, not even an hour after one of these storms had been stopped and already another one is threatening to break out..."

The alicorn fought the urge to go out there and use a... "special" magic he knew to try and hold off the storm, but he knew all too well that if he used it, a few secrets of his would be discovered that he didn't exactly want escaping to the world. He turned away from the window and resumed his pacing, fluttering his black wings to release sparks of embers to warm himself from the sudden drop in temperature...

(OoC: Yay, so many memories from this RP! Glad it's started up again :3)

Snowfell picked daintily across the hall, the tiny trail of ice following her as it normally did. Another storm seemed to be brewing, and she sighed inwardly, looking at the angry black storm clouds. The pegasi seemed to be nervous, making it evident that this wasn't their doing, and even though there had been one what seemed like moments before it seemed that Equestria wasn't getting much rest from the torrential downpours.

There was already a black and yellow alicorn there, and he appeared to be trying to warm himself up. She felt and instant dislike for him; alicorns were the worst of the pony lot, and the fact that there were so few made it even worse to see one.  Snowfell maintained a healthy distance from the monstrosity, and, as and afterthought, created a small snowstorm above her own head. Satisfied with the result, she waited in silence for any other latecomers.

---

In a flurry of dark fur, Corhwyaid bustled into the hall, shaking. She had been forced to fly through rain, of all things, and her mood wasn't improved by the uppity unicorn and-even worse-alicorn that milled about in the hall, one evidently trying to cool herself off and the other warm himself up.

While she could have used some warmth, Cora decided to have a poke about first. Her kind weren't normally permitted to enter the "Great Hall", as the snooty sisters called it, and she wanted to see what sort of things they got up to.

After exploring the lavish hall, Cora snorted with distaste. There were gems everywhere, and the marble floors gleamed-everything that she hated about the upper class about Equestria was present; their exceeding amount of wealth. She turned around to examine the other two arrivals quickly. The alicorn looked grumpy, but the unicorn looked even scarier with her strange eyes and eerie hailstorm. If she had to get to know one of the two, the alicorn-though disgusting-would be the better choice of the two, both in strength and in temperament.

She approached him with a big smile. "Hello! I'm Corhwyaid, but you can just call me Cora. Why are you here to help?" she asked cheerily.

Kreinbahthur cursed under his breath as he saw the white unicorn summon a small blizzard.

"Wonderful, just what I need, COLD," he though silently as he closed his wings and used his magic to produce a small flame on their underside. He was careful not too overdo it, he didn't really want to set anything on fire. He gave a distasteful look towards the icy mare, and probably would've told her to stop if it weren't for her... strange aura. Something was off about her, something vaguely familiar, but it was most likely the cold which he oh so detested.

"Good to know I won't be the only one willing to go on this misadventure," he muttered to himself as he watched another mare bolt inside the Hall. She looked just as bitter as the white unicorn, but not as much. If anything, it seemed to be mainly because of her apparent distaste for the fancy decorations.

Krein observed both mares, studying the way they acted so as to get a general idea of their common behavior. Soon enough though, the pegasus walked up to him and introduced herself, then asked him a question.

"Krein," he said simply as he gave a small nod. "As for my reasons of helping.. well, I for one don't want the entire place ravaged by... 'fickle' weather, and I definitely don't want a traitorous creep ruling over all of us," he explained.

Assurance hated Canterlot. Not disliked, hated. Well, actually, it was a nice place. Then the gossip came about Discord. They blamed the bat ponies. If anything went wrong, they usually shouted 'Thanks, Nocturnia'! Ever since the war between Nocturnia and Equestria. Assurance wasn't alive for it...but she heard it was horrible. Now they were being used as scapegoats. No doubt another tyrant would come along and start another Holomare. Now...nopony could even look at pitiful little Assurance.

She was called to the royals for something unknown. Probably to fire her. After all, the Princesses listen to gossip - or so the  newspapers say. She dares not to question if it is legit or not - who knows, they might think she's a rebel or something and then attempt to murder her painfully. Assurance shivered at the thought.

As she trotted into the hall, she noticed a - Sweet Nocturnia, is that an alicorn? She also noticed two other unknown ponies there, ironically  She normally knew most ponies from her travels as a courier . She checked herself. Her armor seemed to be blazing in the sunlight, but there was no surprise there. She took off her helmet to catch her breath, but immediately put it back on. Buck, it was cold! She lowered her head and stood next to the alicorn, careful not to make any eye contact.Under her breath she whispered:

"Um, hello. I'm Assurance. W-whats your name?" She asked in the faintest of whispers, after noticing the alicorn didn't hear her. She made up her mind: now was the proper time to be quiet.

Krein noticed the bat winged pony come near to him and attempt to say something, but her voice was quieter than Fluttershy's when she talked. He tilted his head in confusion, and took a few steps back to give her some room.

"A bat winged pegasus? It's been a long time since I've seen your kind," he said as he admired her wings.

"She seems so lowly, what could she possibly even offer to these efforts?", Krein though silently before shaking his head in disappointment of himself.

Cora nodded vacantly, but her heart didn't seem to be in her response. She was focusing on a new arrival, a bat winged pegasus creature, who appeared to be in armour. She looked nervous, but this only intrigued her more. If she was wearing armour, she must be a guard of sorts, and guards around here were normally big bullies who liked to flex their authorative muscle whenever possible. She was standing next to the alicorn, of course; everyone wanted to gawk at the show before them, the rare mix of horn and wings, and no one cared about the regular creatures that surrounded them.

Not that Cora was a regular creature, all things aside, but being noticed was nice, at least. She smiled disarmingly at the new arrival, but her tone made it clear that she wasn't pleased.

"Oh, maybe you should speak up, dear. I don't think we quite caught your name," she said, cocking her head in a fake friendly manner.

"thanks..." She told the alicorn in barely more then a whisper. Then another pony talked to her, and in her mind a crowd of ponies was talking to her...making fun of her wings and using her as a scapegoat as usual...

Assurance got a wingboner from all of these 'false' ponies talking to her. She dropped her eyes and drifted her gaze elsewhere. Why were all of the ponies interested in her? She was a normal bat pony. Oh, right, bat ponies aren't considered normal in Equestria.

"Um...i'm Assurance, and i'm a royal guard, though I'm used as a courier..." She told the group, dropping her wings. "I-I'm sorry...I'm trying to be more assertive..." She told the group with a sigh. "Thanks for actually talking to me...everypony usually makes fun of me..."

Libra Objector slowly moved down the marvelous hallway, with his trademark briefcase hovering above him. The weather had been rather... unusual lately.... while he was aware that it was the fault of Discord, he couldn't help but feel somewhat suspicious of pegasi. In his short journey to the castle, he had gotten himself drenched, with water slowly bleeding out of his vest. Finally he had reached the great hall, to discover pegasi, a unicorn and an alicorn. Each seemed to be engaged in conversation, so he approached the alicorn, as he seemed like the type of pony whom might be the leader of the group. Not wanting to seem rude, he simply stood still, ready for a long enough silence for him to talk.

"Royal guard?" said Cora, dripping near-mocking interest from her voice. "But now a courier. How marvelous, really. Why the change?"

This pony was laughable; getting bullied, a hardship? The idea that someone that weak was permitted to journey on something this dangerous, this important, was rather a a shock to her. At least the other two looked capable, particularly the white unicorn mare-so far, she appeared the be the only one that actually was prepared around here. However, when she looked up at the pegasus watching her, her eyes flashed a menacing electric blue. Cora dropped thoughts of approaching her, but she regretted her choice of speaking to the alicorn at this point.

"...You may not have guessed it, but i'm really shy..." Assurance sincerely told Cora. "...Well, technically  I didn't change, i'm still a royal guard. It's just that...well...y'know..I'm quick on my feet. I deliver messages all over, name a place, i've been there. I even go overseas sometimes...Lately, since Discord has came back, they used us bat ponies as scapegoats. We've been pushing by, but..." Assurance trailed off.

The storm brewing outside finally began to fall with crackles of thunder, dropping the temperature even lower. The pegasi swarmed to try and disperse the clouds, but strong winds began to pick up and toss the less prepared ones around.

"Ouch, that looks like fun," Krein said as he increased the temperature of the heat around him. He listened to the bat pony talk.

"Oh well, I trust that you'll be of some use anyway. I don't think they'd accept just anyone into the Royal Guard, so whatever your skills are, best use them as best as you can for this... assignment."

Krein noticed a brief change in the eerily quiet white unicorn, but didn't see in time what it was. Shrugging he simply stood around and waited some more. Another unicorn stepped inside the room and drew nearer to him. Krein couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable with all the ponies around him, it reminded him a bit too much of...

"So, what's your name," Krein blurted out to the unicorn.

Noting that Krein had made the room warmer, Snow slightly extended and worsened her blizzard, creating a veritable tornado of powdery substance about herself.

Cora was impressed by the unicorns talent, but the sight of the blizzard stirred something inside of her that she didn't like. A vague sort of memory of past, but something fuzzy and unclear, like an old staticky television with the resolution too low, the snowy whiteness covering the truth behind it. As soon as it had appeared, the image was gone, and she was back in reality.

"Oh, darling, now I'm sure there's something you can do right," she said, enunciating her words clearly and coldly.

Assurance yelped and walked up to the unicorn.

"Please! Don't fight! Think of everything that could happen! You could get hurt, ruin a friendship...come on, what's the point of fighting?" Assurance hastily asked. Fighting was bad, she always believed that since day one. She wouldn't let a silly showdown ruin two ponies friendship - not as long as she was on four hooves!

Libra was prepared to answer the alicorn's question, but the white unicorn had already blurted out a... rude answer. He watched as the bat-pegasaus approached the icy unicorn and alicorn who then attempted to break it up. Libra had decided that he had to talk. "Please, don't get into any trouble..." he murmured in a way that would shame the pair.

"Is that necessary?", Krein asked, a bit vexated by the white unicorn's seeming want to try and outmatch the heat he was trying to produce to warm the Hall up. Krein saw the bat pony try and stand in front of the mare, and couldn't help but wince when the blizzard around her began to frost her body slightly.

"You might want to step back from that," he said as he turned his attention to the Hall's large doors. "Finally", he thought, Celestia had arrived.

~"I trust these... apparent disagreements won't be getting in the way of your true objective," Celestia said as she walked into the room with her Royal Guards. She was obviously a bit irritated at the already growing bickering, of course, why wouldn't she be? Discord could easily dismantle a team like that in a flash. No matter, they seemed to be the only ponies who were willing to brave the storms to get to Canterlot, so they must have a strong resolve and courage.

"Now, onto the important matter at hand... As you all know, Discord has reverted back to his old ways, and has begun the events across Equestria of what you've all seen happening outside. My students... have been captured by him... But they have been seperated across the land. These guards report that one of them, Fluttershy, is trapped within the Everfree Forest..."

Cora rolled her eyes. "Oh, my, the Everfree Forest! And here I thought Discord was supposed to be original; god of chaos and all that kerfuffle, correct?"

Snow ignored the processions and stared out the window.

~"The Everfree Forest is not a place to be careless about. It's filled with all sorts of creatures, known and unknown, many which have claimed the lives of several ponies daring to adventure into it. Therefore, mind how you feel about certain things, because arrogance is something the Draconequus can and will use to his advantage. I trust you all know better, especially when going up against an enemy like him. I suggest you all go on your way now, there isn't much time to lose."~

Kreinbahthur nodded and gave a bow. He hoped things wouldn't become to hostile between everyone. A former "leader" of teams, he knew what disunity could cause. He went and stood by the door.

"Yes... your majesty." Libra murmured when Celestia had finished. He had been listening intently to the speech, so as to collect all of the information he needed. Based in the conduct of the rest of the team, he was fairy certain that he would have to be the brains of the group... and the mouth... and the eyes... Nonetheless, he approached the door and said to the alicorn "Do you believe that there will be bloodshed? I certainly hope not." He paused. "And my name is Libra Objector, currently in my last year of law school."

"Bloodshed?", Krein asked Libra hesitantly. His mind drifted off to old memories as his eyes shifted down towards the ground. They were old, but were still as vivid as if they had happened yesterday. After a few moments, Krein finally noticed that the unicorn was still waiting for his response.

"Ah, sorry. I'm not too sure what will happen, but I doubt it'll be easy for any of us. These unnatural disturbances will be a problem out there in the open, and if Discord decided to throw anything new at us..."

Kreinbahthur continued his walk outside the palace, grimacing as he felt the cold winds rush in as the doors opened. Again, he altered the heat bubble around him, and then casted a type of shield to protect himself from the rain.

"Damn I hate this cold. Who knows though, perhaps in moments this weather will change to a torrid one. So you study law eh? I know a few things about that stuff myself actually..."

The walk through Canterlot was bleak. Everything seemed abandoned, the only other ponies being the ones from the Palace and the weather control pegasi attempting to disperse the storm clouds. A royal guard caught sight of the group and approached them, directing them to a lone caboose.

"Most of these aren't willing to operate," the unicorn guard said. "But we were given orders to prepare one to make your travel to the outskirts of that dark forest shorter..."

"I'm so sorry, O Mighty One," replied Cora with an exaggerated bow and a falsetto. "Please, forgive my arrogance. I guess it's not like I've lived in the forest since I was a child." She didn't wait for Celestia to respond, but merely spun around and strode out.. It was raining gently and she recoiled-water wasn't her favourite thing, and she had already struggled through some that morning.

The white unicorn waa also striding forth, leaving icy footprints, and the rain around her froze almost instantly. So long as it wasn't wet, Cora was okay, so, despite the teeth-chattering temperatures, she fell in close to the unicorn.

Again the almost choking feeling filled Cora, and she stopped and coughed as the ice seemed to fill her lungs. The unicorn noticed this and the temperature warmed just slightly as she kept walking, leaving a still-hacking and slightly bemused Cora behind.

---

Snow already regretted her choice.

In ten minutes she had to deal with two high-and-mighty alicorns, a meek bat-winged guard, a sadistic and rather irritating pegasus, and a law-abiding model citizen; already, this waa a disaster.

Perhaps it was a little hypocritical of Snow to label them based on what she was, but hating others was so much easier than hating herself, and it kept them away from her. It didn't work (the channeling her hate to others, that is; if anything, she despised herself even more) but it was second nature now.

The trouble-making pegasus was following her closely, and Snow felt uncomfortable. Something off was about her, and the other obviously felt the same about Snow. Suddenly she started to hack, and Snow, panicked, raised the temperature slightly and sped on, wanting as much space away as possible.

---

Both arrived at the caboose shortly, and Cora, trying to mask her jittery feeling, sniffed and quipped, "Looks like we'll be travelling in style."

Kreinbahthur eyed the two strange mares suspiciously, Snowfell in particular. The way she carried herself, along with her seeming control over frost magic, reminded him of several things he had seen long ago.

"Old enemies... no, their pride would never allow them to bring themselves to resemble and live amongst 'regular' ponies," Krein muttered as his thoughts drifted further back to said enemies. He must've remembered to o much, because when he snapped out of it he was developing a small aura of flame about him, and his horn seemed close to glowimg with an offensive magic blast. The alicorn quickly called it off, hoping that he hadn't caused too much of a scene, and simply began to melt the ice trail formed by the white mare. As he prepared to board, he waited a little longer out in the dissipating storm so as to not have anypony behind him.

Corkscrew flew out the the palace as fast as he could, leaving behind an orange streak. Soon he has his objective in sight. "That's the expedition?" he said to himself as he approached the group. He had his armor on and was proud to be wearing it. He recognized Kreinbahthur from the quick briefing he was given. He lands behind the group, where he recognized Assurance from his training. "I'm Corkscrew, I'll be joining you on this journey " he said. "My first day of duty after graduating guard training, and this happens." He looks around the group again and tries to put names to faces.

"Another guard huh. Looks like we'll have some well trained ponies with us then, though how they'll truly handle the outside is yet to be known," Krein thought as he turned to face the pegasus.

"Z- er, Kreinbahthur," said the alicorn with a nod. "I hope you've heard where we're heading..."

"Almost let my old intro slip," Krein said mentaly. He spoke a different language for years, and while he had learned it alongside with English, he couldn't help but to talk in it at times, especially when introducing himself.

Assurance just drifted her gaze elsewhere while saluting the entire time Celestia was talking. After she was done,  Assurance fluttered out and noticed a new pony joining them. After examining him closer, she smiled. Another guard!

"H-Hello fellow guard..." Assurance told him while doing a meek salute. "I-I'm a n-night guard...Assurance...i'm going to join you on this mission...um...if that's okay with you..."

Cora looked Corkscrew up and down and lifted a brow. "I thought guards were trained to be punctual," she said in a short tone. "I suppose the Royal Princesses" (here she snorted) "have let it slip over the years, especially considering you were even allowed to come here. More's the pity, I suppose." She waved her arm. "Cora."

Snow, as per usual, remained grumpy and silent, and Cora took notice. "The angry one is Snow," she added, and the unicorn glared at her. Cora started to hack again, but this time it was slightly more violent.
