Today i was very surprised to learn that some people HATE cilantro with a passion. A huge amount of people hate it, actually. I was not aware its so hated. So much that there are anti-cilantro groups all over the place and there's even studies dedicated to why they hate it so much.

So i was just wondering how my fellow bronies feel about it....

Personally, i LOVE the stuff. I even used to eat it raw in small amounts just for the flavor

This is an atrocity to human kind. I have dabbled in the culinary arts and I will say, Cilantro is a god-send of herbs, rivaling oregano.

speaking as a chef (as in I am employed as a chef)

cilantro often gets misused/overused.    It's sorta become like the ketchup of the spice world.  It has a distinct flavour profile thus is used a lot in dishes to give it a specific flavour.  However, here in lies the issue.    It's very very strong, and most people work with dry stuff because....well i dunno, they don't know where to buy fresh?

It only takes a pinch to be able to taste it,  so when you have it in everything it grows weary.   I personally  only use it on duck.  Works well with it,  just rub it in with some salt on the raw breast and grill,  perfect.   After that  it just becomes a show stealer,  I'd rather use parsley, since I can use more parsley to get better colour (it just looks prettier with more little green flecks), and not have to worry too much about ruining my other flavours.

Well as a Mexican, Cilantro is like, something I eat on a daily basis with nearly all of my food xD

I honestly don't know how you could hate it, then again, I really love herbs, spices and such on my food to add more flavor, and well, not everyone is like that xD

Hmm interesting. I just want to understand why it is that some people think it tastes like soap. They must have very different taste buds, I still can't make out any sort of "soapy" taste, it confuses me.

Cilantro is perfect for garnising dishes, especially fish. Fish and cilantro go together like peanut butter and jelly. I always have about 4 bunches of cilantro at home, while I sometimes grow my own from the garden. So, we always have cilantro here. :3

I really don't care for cilantro. I mean I have nothing against it, I'm just not a big fan of it, I never eat it. I don't know why there are "anti-cilantro" groups, that seems silly lol

Personally, I like cilantro, and while I understand there may be genetic factors or simple variations in taste that would explain most people's dislike of it, cilantro is sometimes misused. The most common offense is when people mistake it for parsley.

It's really strange, my mom detests cilantro. She says it tastes like soap. Either I've never eaten cilantro before and therefore am not aware of its apparently awful flavor, or I just don't mind it at all. It's a pretty interesting phenomenon, though.

I'm vegetarian, but I absolutely HATE cilantro. There's this place I like to go called Noodles and Co., and they always put a HUGE piece of fresh cilantro on top of the food.

I tried eating it the first couple times, I really did, but the taste is just plain bad.

I love it then again I love Mexican food in general, living in Southern California has gotten me exposed to it quite a bit so I guess I am just used to it. I love herbs and spices in general, I go through hot sauce like most people go through water.
