Hey y'all I'm back again with more art for y'all! I decided since I haven't done any art in a while I owed it to y'all to do a little extra, I still might even do more depending on how much time I have free and how I feel.

 

Anyways, if you haven't guessed by my title, I drew Derpy. This is the first time I think I've drawn any background ponies, so yeah I'm gonna be drawing the other background ponies at some point I'm sure to. Not sure who exactly yet, but I'm sure i'll find out.

 

I decided to draw Derpy because hes probably one of my favorite background ponies, even if I don't really have a extremely official opinion on background ponies really, still he is great, and drawing derp eyes was alot of fun Xd. I didn't have to worry about the eyes being drawn to make sense or anything. Felt free with it .

 

Anyways heres the drawing before I start rambling some more.

Like always this is drawn with a mouse in GIMP. and I used a reference to, heres the reference.

 

I think this was quite a difficult one in a way to draw, Its probably one of the more complex poses I've drawn really so far, I think this is the first drawing I've done thats not totally facing almost side view or total side view or frontal view, this ones more of a curved view towards the front. Different perspective then I'm use to.

 

I think I also did the wings better then I normally do overall, so I'm happy about that.

 

One thing that I will point out is that he looks a bit fat, some reason my bodies always look a bit fat, I dunno why . It doesn't help the perspective kinda curves the body in this weird downward angle, which I kinda failed to do in my opinion.

 

I also thought it was a perfect time to finally use a cloud background instead of some simple grassy hill or something as a background since I finally drew a Pegasi flying. Its pretty simple nothing really special about it.

 

Anyways I guess thats about it. Overall the new pose was a bit more difficult then what I usually do, but I think I pulled it off pretty ok for a first time. The fact I've never drawn Derpy doesn't matter a whole lot since shes pretty similar to other Pegasi I've drawn, and has a mane similar to Rainbows.

 

So like always I'm open to any and all critique or comments, I know theres problems with it because I know I'm far from perfect, so feel free to point them out .

 

And of course tips and tricks and anything else you wanna offer are more then welcome .

 

Maybe you just wanna drop by and comment for the sake of it I dunno xD.

Derpy eyes are probably the most enjoyable part of the whole drawing Xd. I wish i could draw them more often .

 

Drawing with a mouse has its drawbacks and annoyances, but overall its not to terribly bad. I think people make it seem like a bigger feat then it is really in alot of cases, it just takes some getting use to like all things.

I guess the tail does look pretty good aswell, I've done the similar type of style of tail before so it wasn't all that difficult I guess, the reason why I like the wings alot and how I did on them is because most of my other pegasi wing drawings suck Xd. Still these aren't the best, but I guess they're progress.

Well, I can see that your art is improving.

 

But you still need to make the head more wider, the body more rounder and skinnier, and her wings a bit more longer and thinner.

i agree with all of what you said, still got some issues with shapes overall . The wings are a bit fat looking expecially to I agree, although they have been worse .

I'd agree the Cutie mark is pretty well done I guess, its not to complicated or anything really. However to be honest I think it could've been more rounded on some of the bubbles, oh well .

XD Is there no way for you to transfer a traditional drawing onto your computer and then draw over that in gimp?

 

You seem to be aware of the flaws in your piece and the areas you need to improve, so I believe you'll improve naturally as you continue to draw. The body has always been a problem area for me, too; all of my ponies look like they have hotdogs for bodies and silly-puddy stumps for legs!

, it isn't terrible as they say to be totally honest, after you get use to it its actually not to bad, i'd actually say its possible I'm better with my computer then drawing on paper. Never used a tablet to draw, so who knows about that .

 

I don't think I can really, since I don't have a scanner to transfer with as far as I know.

 

I'm mostly aware of the flaws, but I'm still a bit more of a beginner really in the scheme of things, so theres some things I'm sure I can't really notice that some people can.

 

The body can be a pain sometimes . Depends alot on the angle I'm drawing from to be honest. Some are harder to draw from, I think drawing from a side view can be hard kinda. The body always seems to turn out a bit fat for me to be honest. Atleast most of the time. Frontal view is easier in some ways, and harder in others so idk . I'm sure with more practice I'll get it better though like you said.

She is quite beautiful but yet she is little bigger than the refrence photo the wings should be a little skinnier im sorry i have drawn all my life and it bugs me sort of when something is wrong :/ i appologize

as a mouse drawing it looks decent enough. One thing that may help make it not so blocky next time is zooming in. I always have found if I zoom in I am able to put in details more accurately, and easily than at default.

 

just food for thought. But it is pretty accurate other than the blockyness.

McLaren makes the MP4-12C and it looks like a Ferrari mixed with a lambo. Not only that, but it is the OCD machine. The people who made the car thought perfect just isn't good enough. I hope one day I can afford one. I want to get in to rally cross when I reach the age, though, and the McLaren would be no good for that. Still, I love that car so much!

Its ok dude, I know I need alot of work xD. Nothings wrong with constructive critique.

Yeah, I try to zoom in, but I may need to try a bit more zoom at times. it does look a bit blocky in some places.
