In other words, its a tad extreme. Or atleast I think it is.

I know what you mean when it comes to itchy. Mine often presses against my chest whenever I look down while on my laptop and pokes the mess out of me. I, myself, would keep it and deal with it, cause I like beards. But seeing your opinions, I say shave it.
