Oh well. It still sucks that you need steam. Just asking, but when you buy from the brick and mortar stores, do you need steam as well?

Actually, yes, and it says so on the box if you do. if you got Skyrim for PC today from a store, you'd have to install it on Steam.

If you pirate it, steam will not be needed.

Wow. That's crazy. You know, this just makes me want to pirate games. I hate when I have to open clients for a game. It's fricken stupid.

Indeed.

Its one of the main reasons i pirate games. (Even tho i buy 99% of them)

Just to skip all that ''You need an Internet connection in order to play''.

I know! It's such bullshit. And you know what's funny? Gabe said that the reason why people pirate is not because it's too expensive. Oh no, it's because of inconvenience. That's why we pirate. And that's why we pirate now. God damn always online bullshit.

This one is a tad less creepy. Wouldn't you agree?

I think you can play in offline mode. But that takes ages and if you can play offline i really don't see a reason that you need steam to play a game in the first place.

Damn steam. The internet is becoming more of a Walmart scenario. The big companies are over running the small ones and eventually we'll have so little choice as Valve realizes it doesn't need PR anymore since it's the king of the world.

Oh my god today is not my day...

I prick myself while sorting fabrics because it wasn't pinned right, then I get home and burn myself on the oven... Then, (and this is the worst part) I flush the toilet and the fucking handle falls in and goes down. My dad says I have to reach in and see if it went down all the way.

Oh, and on top of that, my parents might be turning off the internet for a few hours tonight.

And you also lose your right to complain about bugs or any issue with the pirated copy

To be fair, I cannot argue with one click install and one click play versus having to slightly jump through hoops, if Steam is necessary to facilitate that, I'm ok, I also use it as an easy game browser.

Steam has offline mode, you only realistically need internet for connected play and for installing and purchasing/redeeming. All the rest is just an added bonus, there are games with always on DRM with internet, Steam games often don't have this.

I know! It's such bullshit. And you know what's funny? Gabe said that the reason why people pirate is not because it's too expensive. Oh no, it's because of inconvenience. That's why we pirate. And that's why we pirate now. God damn always online bullshit.

In fact, Gabe never said this, he has numerously stated that piracy is a service problem, having to buy a game means going to a store, installing it, registering your product key, and installing various other pieces of software through long and arduous installation processes. And then some companies throw on certain DRM, Steam aims to circumnavigate this, by making purchasing a game on Steam easier then pirating it. It is more convenient.

But don't you need to be online to enable offline mode for steam? I mean, that's kind of pointless.

You need to make sure Steam knows which games are tied to your account, once that is done, offline mode away

Competition is good, that's why EA launched Origin, and there are numerous other ways of buying games, like on GoodOldGames, Direct2Drive, GamersGate. However Steam does offer some things that the other services don't, and that is assurance that people have a harder time pirating, but have the convenience of installing and access to Steam features such as friends lists, and even Steamworks for easy modding.

It's up to EA to make a good competitor for Origin, but tho be fair, Steam hasn't done anything evil as far as I can see, they aren't the big bad wolf, even though I want there to be competition so they never ever have to feel complacent.

Indeed i do.

But its not like a fix of it wont be released.

And i never complain when it comes to bugs and glitches. If its that bad i only look up a fix.
