i used the Roland Sound Canvas soundfont, which is bundled with pretty much every version of Windows since i don't know exactly. so if you've ever played any games which utilizes MIDIs (which is most DOS/WIn 95-era games) chances are you're gonna hear that soundfont being played.

 

the stupid thing is, though, that i used FL Studio, of all things, to make the song in, because of me being familiar with it. but producing songs with MIDI-insturments like that is a bad idea, i've found, as it fails to export the project file properly.

What exactly do you mean It exports them wrong?

I've had a few problems importing some midi files, but Not sure sure about exporting them. Though, the last one I exported yesterd didn't use the midi sounds since I moved them to reguar synths and whatnot.

i dunno what Milkytracker is. Famitracker is a tracker for composing songs with NES chipsounds (and others can be added in, like the Commadore 64 sound, i believe).

alright, so after you're done composing your song with whatever soundfonts you have used in FL Studio, export the file as a MIDI. you need to change some setting of the project file which is permanent, so remember to save an extra copy of your project file before doing so. then, export the track to a MIDI. the track will come out perfect as a result.

Aah, nice find. I'll try and remember that should I mess plan on making a midi. Though, I'm sure I'll forget and freak out should it happen.

i only got to the instrument part in the FAQ and was all "uhhh okay" about it. mind telling me something about it?

So far what I got is: to input sound, click into the section you want. Like, for Pulse 1, click into the first little area on the farthest left in the playlist (Not where the numbers already are, mind you). That will allow you to play sound with your Keyboard. Mind you it will record it as you tap if you have the record button on (Which it seems to by default), but you can delete one thing by highlighting and hitting delete or a whole area by double clicking it, which should highlight all of it and hitting delete.

 

To switch sounds (Pulse 1, Pulse 2, Triangle, Noise) just click in them like you did above and it will start playing those the same way as earlier.

To edit the sound, click into the sound you wanna edit, go up to the top and hit instrument, then hit new instrument. The one that pops into the area in the top right is the one you just added. Sadly, I've no idea how to rename them and that will get hella confusing Im sure.

You can mess around with the volume, pitch, arpeggio, high pitch, and something else I've no idea what it does.

Let's say you want a snare-esque sound, you'd go into noise, add a new instrument, then go into that menu by double clicking the new one. Then you'd go into the volume area and add a few bars by hitting the + - right under the sequence editor. Add however many as you want depending on how long you want it to "ring" then just slowly bring them down until it hits no sound at all. You will need one extra bar that is empty to make sure it doesn't continue on.

 

That's pretty much all I've gotten so far.

 

To rename them, there is a bar under the added instrument area that you can use to rename them.

Just click the instrument you want to rename and then go type in that field.
