Fucking Pop-Tarts.

Speaking of fire, I had to tell my folks that the outside heat is insufficient to make paper catch fire; it'd have to be 7.85-ish radians Fahrenheit in order to do that.

Also, my other home site's gotten a massive update and that involves circle avatars. Wanna see?

みなさん、こんにちは

that means hello everyone

...or does it?

Can't read Katakana. Or is that Hiragana?

You've inspired me to think about making a custom alphabet again.

it's actually very much hiragana, like 100% of it

it says みmi なna さsa んn、こko んn にni ちchi はwa

minasan, kon'nichiwa

Buuut.... It's not an alphabet.

Note to self: Hiragana and Katakana are similar syllabaries except Hiragana's a million times curlier than Katakana, and Kanji is Japaneseified Chinese glyphs.

hiragana symbols are mainly syllables, not letters, if that makes sense

and all of them contain vowels

that's why the Japanese have difficulties in pronouncing two consonants next to each other without adding in a vowel between them

That's what makes it not an alphabet; discounting vowels altogether makes it an abjad, like Arabic and Hebrew, (vowels are weird filler noises that go between consonants and are typically written as diacritics and not assigned true glyphs) but if it has vowels that have to be attached to consonants, it's a syllabary.

Alphabets have separate symbols for consonants and vowels, like the Greek alphabet (alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, and so on; hence alphabet and not begagam or gammadelt or whatever); syllabaries have consonant sonuds that are always attached to vowels (insanely hard to do with English), abjads don't vowel (LK SRSLY TR RDNG THS RGT NW), and abugidas do weird things to consonant symbols that get paired with vowel sounds. Can English abugida?

Are you on the other side of the world with respect to me?

well, I dunno, I have no idea where you are right now

see the time difference between us and you can prolly pinpoint my timezone on the map

I'm in that general area, provided you found the right timezone

if you're on the west coast, that's a 10 hour difference

under normal circumstances, there are 7 hours between here and the east coast and 10 between here and the west coast

I say under normal circumstances as the daylight savings rules are different here, so that time difference may change at times
