Nexus sobbed in his sleep...coma...thing. His mind was flooded with thoughts of his friends and family, and the pain he felt was like they all died yesterday. It was an odd mix of love and pain. It was a feeling he had not felt in years. And it was because he tried helping the one good changeling in Equestria. And he effectively turned it into another mindless drone. And so he sobbed. He sobbed like a foal in a comatose state while the hospital 5 feet to his left got turned into a changeling feeding ground. Things...were grim. He WAS the only one with weapons, armor, and combat experience. It would take a miracle for him to recover.

By now changelings had taken over the entire hospital setting up guard at every entrence except the basements trap door because it had a padlock. All the changelings were flying around the building in pack of 3 to 4 feeding and laughing at the scared little ponies. One stopped to sniff the air breaking away from its group and following his nose to a nearby window he attached his line to whatever feast was sending out such delicious emotions. Following the line he peered out the wondow seeing a motionless body on the ground. It was in the open it was never supposed to be in the open alone but it didn't want to share such a glorious prize so it had to decide. Dozens of changelings feasting inside the hotel only one left out a second floor window to eat some better food.

 

Inside the mind od Parcel Shift.

The hive was alive and everyone was going about their daily bussiness. Boon (Parcels real name) was on his way to school with his best friend Iccaris there they learned how to change and manipulate emotions when the teacher started to talk about how terrible ponies were Boon tuned her out, hed heard this a million times before but something snapped it back, "now kids if you ever see a pony inside the hive you should never feed on it or talk to it, istead kill it on site.". This was new it was against everything hed been taught up until now. When Boon got home it went straight to its room taking out a small book from under its pillow. On the cover was a small wooden pony with a determined smiling face. Boon smiled this was very illegal but it didn't care it loved everyrhing about ponies and on his first pony raid it had stuck this away and read it over and over relishing every word.

Something was clearly off.  Plagal wasn't sure what, but there was most definitely something.  Some ponies went about their daily business as usual, while others were rushing around frantically, with almost a crazed look in their eyes that they were clearly trying to hide.  "I have no idea what's going on," Plagal muttered to himself, "and best I keep it that way.  There's no need to get caught up in whatever this is."

 

As Plagal approached his home, he noticed something strange and unsettling at his window.  Looking out of it was somepony familiar.  Very familiar.  He then realized that whoever was looking out of his window from his home, was an exact copy of himself.  Plagal stopped dead in his tracks, eyes widening.  His mind raced through possibilities; he had no siblings so that was impossible, he got his coat and mane color from his mother and the pony in the window was clearly male, the little voice in his head...  You!  You're still where I left you, right?  Haven't gotten separated or something like that?

 

Wait, you're addressing me? his consciousness asked.  That's new...  Anyways, whoever's in the window is not me, and no, I have no idea what's going on, but I do know that you don't want to be seen by them.  You should get the hell out of here.  Plagal agreed with this plan wholeheartedly and began to gallop in the opposite direction.  "Need... to find... someone to tell," he said to himself in between breaths.  But who?  All he could do was hope that he ran into somepony, anypony, that had an idea of what was going on.

THE MIND OF NEXUS

 

Nexus awoke in a cottage that looked oddly...familiar.

 

"The buck...where I am?" He looked around to see he was in a room...his room. His old room from the clan. His eyes widened in surprise.

 

"How is this possible? This place was levelled. And wasn't I just in front of a hospital..." He suddenly remembered. The hospital was being swarmed by changelings. Screams, horror, and a rogue Parcel.

 

"Buck! I need to get back there!" He jumped to get up, only to see that he wasn't in his room anymore, but a different room. One that looked almost like a cave. He peeked out and saw something that made him pale. He was in the changeling hive. Anypony that is caught here is killed on sight. Nexus was strong, but he couldn't fight off an entire army. He jumped as he saw a young changeling enter the room. It doesn't seem to notice the bat pony. 

 

"Wait, why can't it see me? Hello?" No response. The young changeling went over to his bed...if it can be called that. It looked more like a pile of green crystals. He pulled out a small book with a wooden pony on the cover. The pony had a smile on his face and a look of determination in his eyes.

 

"Why would a changeling have this? Are they even smart enough to read...or do anything besides feed?" He thought about it, and remembered. Parcel was smart enough to read. It was almost like a pony in a changeling body. But

 

"Buck thats right. I turned him into a mindless drone." He fell on his haunches, rubbing his face with a hoof. He looked up to see this young changeling reading this book. And loving every minute of it. And Nexus was gaining strength again.

 

"Wait, how am I...?" He looked at his hoof, to see it black and filled with holes. Looking around him, he saw that his skin was black as an eclipse, his body covered in a weird armor like substance. His wings were thin and buzzing. He has a horn now, and his eyes were a solid green. He screamed in terror.

 

"WHATHOWWHYWHENWHERE WHY AM I A CHANGELING?!?!?!?!" He looked up to see the young changeling gone and seeing the full grown changeling Parcel.

 

"PARCEL! WHERE ARE WE?? WHY AM I A CHANGELING?!?!"

"Okay, recap. The hospital has been overrun with changelings, I've got a passed out Batpony next to me and I'm also injured myself. I'm unable to take back anything in my current position. So, the best thing to do would help somewhat is guard Nexus. Going to need a weapon though..."

 

"Need to borrow this." He said pulling off one of the claws that Nexus had equipped. The stallion readied himself for whatever was to come.

The changeling sat on a thrown on cacoons with lifeless ponies inside. He grinned at seeing the new comer but it was not a pleasent smile but a melicious one.

"How does it feel. How does it taste to be what you hate most in the world?" The changeling got off of his high throne to circle Nexus. "Your Parcel is no longer here this is MY world now and if you want to survive you're going to have to live by my rules." He stopped now infront of Nexus making a mock pouting face and rubbing the former batponies cheek. "Oh poor Nexusssss all trapped in the bad man's game well I'm sure you'll find some way out you always dooooo......" the changeling vanished and Nexus was back in the cave but it was different now the lighting had changed and there was an empty cacoon in the cornerand a fire pit with green flames in the middle. There was a note stuck to Nexus' hoof with the words "Rule #1 No revealing who you are" just then a changeling buzzed his way into the small room upon seeing the other being he landed and took a step backward confused and shocked. "W-who are you?"

But now seeing him through changeling eyes he could see distinct features ones that set him apart from the rest and this was definatley Parcel.

Dogboots tell Fire some pony need to save them he well save them. Even if he is hurt before he start to walk. A Bat pony come walking to Dogboots and fell down he look's like he was out of strength. The Bat pony look at Dogboots and head fell down and he stop moving. " Is bat pony is a live right" he ask Dogboots.

 

Dogboots was grabbing a claw out of the bat pony bag he look like he is planning to go the hospital. Fire look at Dogboots " Dogboots first of all you are not going in that Hospital at all" Fire said in a Mad torn.

"We need to do is to get some help but I have the feeling you well not do that. Instead I well send you to the mayor and tell her to send more guards here lot's of them. I well go in and do my beat and save as much as I can." Before Dogboots rejects the idea Fire  use is magic and send him to the mayor. "

 

"Sorry Dogboots you are hurt I am not but what I do with him now the bat pony hmm" Fire thought a minutes and decided to help the bat pony Fire use is magic to recover him. The bat pony is recover fast some Changelings are coming to them " Well here they come" Fire was ready to protect his home.

The changeling knew he had been spotted but it couldnt leave such a plentiful meal just lieing on the ground and it didn't want to xut the line either. It couldn't go forward and it couldn't go backward it was at an impass and waited to the ponies next move.

Nexus still wondered why he didn't attack that changeling. Clearly it was the one controlling Parcel. It could be due to the sheer shock of it. Or how he was unable to move. When he was back in the cave, he looked down at his hoof to see a note.

 

"Arrogant prick." He mumbled to himself. At that moment, the REAL Parcel came in, apparently surprised by Nexus. He approached cautiously.

 

"Parcel, its....Axel. My name is Axel." Nexus' eyes widened in surprise. Why couldn't he tell it who he was? He must have some sort of spell or enchantment on him. He needed to stop this thing. And fast.

 

"Celestia-damnit, this is bad. We need to find the leader of this hive mind, and kill it." He was amazed that he could recognize Parcel. He has never been able to tell one changeling from another before. Perhaps being one helped him identify individuals. Why they needed this ability in a hive mind society, he would never know. Nexus also had several other abilities now, too. He could use offensive magic, he could change form, and he could even mind control those with weak minds. 

 

"Hey, changeling king! I don't know if you can hear me, but I want you to know this! I have dealt with situations FAR worse than this, and that was with my bare hooves. And now I got magic on my side! I don't care what delusion you have of victory, YOU'RE GOING DOWN!!!" He turned to Parcel, determination in his eyes.

 

"Come on Parcel, we got a love sucking bastard to kill!"

Corkscrew

 

Corkscrew had turned his house into a base of operations for the Ponies. His den was filled with maps that were sent with him a month before when he arrived. One of them, an early map of the Everfree and Everfree Castle. He was looking over the map when something caught his attention. He looked out his window to see what he belevrd was Plagal.

 

Corkscrew dose a double take than opens his door and walks up to him in his full guard armor.

 

"Nice day we are having, isn't it?" Corkscrew laughed. "How do you keep your windows so clean? I can see your reflect...."

 

Corkscrew notices that his reflection is not in the window.

He had to find out which one was the real Plagal. That's when it hit him.

 

Corkscrew looks back and forth at the two Plagals and then starts to hum the song that Plagal had written hoping that he would join in.

The changeling was now even more confused than ever looking at Axel like he was crazy. "Uh... did you hit your head or something? I think you may have confused me with someone else the names Boon and shouldn't you be getting out of here the bat ponies are coming you know so you better get out of here." Parcel was the name that Boon had wanted long ago when he had a facination with ponies but now things were different he was different.

"Well whatever it doesn't matter if you see this now."

He trotted over to the far wall sticking his horn into and invisible slot letting out a small spark of green energy opening up a slot that held a small fillies book very old but preserved he look at it for a minute frowning and taking off a note from the cover and holding up a note with the words "Axel- Rule #2 Try not to die"

"Do you know anything about this?" He tossed the book into the firepit the green flames engulfing the book. Stepping toward Axel giving him a curious look distrust in his eyes. "The bats should be out of this area by now but they'll be coming back soon so you should leave here whenever you're done not dieing."

Nexus-or Axel, as he is known in this changelings mind-frowned at the note.

 

"You changelings have been trying to kill me for years now, so I think I can survive another hour." He muttered under his breath. He was also saddened by the book burning. Clearly this changeling ruler was destroying all desire for ponykind in Parcel-or Boon. 

 

"Where the hell...are..." He looked around to see his clan in ruins, ponies in pods, others in chains, and some as lifeless corpses on the ground. He paled, going from a jet black to a dark grey. He looked back to the book, he recognized it now. He read that book to the filly Meryl before.

 

"Luna's night..." He couldn't believe it. It was there. It took the book. It...It...He turned to Boon with a near desperate look in his eye

 

"The filly that owned this book, where is she?" He asked sharply.

Nexus was now jet black, skin tough, like a shell. His wings slowly became transparent, and began to shrink a little. The formed a rounder shape, and soon he had insect wings.

After he recovered the bat pony he look at Dogboots how he got back so fast. Fire think and he look the bat pony did not recovered" I losing my touch" He thought to himself. But the changelings are coming to them and suddenly a new problem start to show. The bat pony is changing to a changeling now Fire and Dogboots have a problem. "My magic can not stop 4 changing 3 are hard enough". But Fire notice something this changeling having a hard time to change to a changeling. "Maybe this one is a  little different Dogboots talk to it maybe it well not change at if it here's a friendly voice. I ratter fight 3 changeling then 4 of them" Fire said in a worried ton.

"I don't think talking to an unconscious Nexus isn't going to do us any good." He replied to Fire noticing that the change was beginning to overtake the bat pony.

 

"Do you have a better idea?"

 

The stallion sighed, he was out of ideas and something was better than nothing at all. "Nexus, I don't know if you can hear me, but whatever is happening to you, you need to fight it! Don't give up." He said to the unconscious bat pony. Dogboots wasn't one for words of encouragement when he was dealing with a massive invasion.

Corkscrew was relieved that he had found the real Plagal, than nodded.

 

"If you'll excuse me for a moment, I have something to take care of."

 

Just as he said that, he began to walk towards Plagal's house. The imposter was looking at him. When he turned his head, Corkscrew moved in and put the second Plagal into a headlock. He made sure the real Plagal could see as he head butted it, making it revert to its true form. Corkscrew was wondering how many other doppleganers had infiltrated Ponyville.

 

Corkscrew locked up the changeling. It was hard for him to kill another creature so close to a pony.

 

Corkscrew walked out side and up to Plagal.

 

"My house should be safe. If you want, I've set up a small base of operations there. I've got to go find Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. I have my extra set of armor in there. Put it on if you like. Besides it would be kind of funny to see an earth pony with pegasus armor on...that and how big it would be on you."

"What are you talking about," Boon shoke is head, "there's no changeling by that name. Anyway we should leave soon ponies are going to come through this area and we can't run into them."

The changeling walked over to an old male pony sobbing on the ground bound in chains and barely alive. Boon tapped his horn on the ponies forehead taking in a few memories and deciding which one of this old ones loved ones he would change into to before changing into a small filly badly bleeding from head to foot and crying no insect wings on her back.

"Grandpa please help me I'm scared please!" The aged stallion looked up finally noticing that there were others near him in seeing his grand daughter he faught against the chains at first determined and then desperate crying even more now in pain and sorrow.

"Cherry, it's ok ill help you it's ok im here ill get you CHERRY!!" Boon laughes and stood up in his true form watching the old pony weep and turned to Axel grinning. "Ponies are so pathetic aren't they."

But there was no time to answer cause in came an atreck group on the two changelings firing weapons and yelling loudly.

"It's the hunters RUN!"

Axel watched in horror as the poor old pony was manipulated, tortured, and fed on. This is why he lived the life of a changeling hunter. These abominations were evil. Mindless animal that would destroy Equestria for a meal. As this occurred, he could hear a familiar earth pony calling out to him, giving him resolve. He was turning into a changeling. Axel could feel the urge to feed as well, but it was drowned in his new resolve. His drive to avenge those that were lost. Not just for his family, but for anypony that suffered because of these thing. Earlier he had nearly killed Dogboots to get to Parcel, but no more.

 

"I don't know if your listening Dogboots. Or if you are you changeling bastard," He thought to himself.

 

"But just know this. Just because I look like a changeling, quack like one, and have their powers, doesn't mean I am going to become another slave to instinct. Deep inside, I am still me. Nexus Tersona. Son of Kaxer Tersona. Born and raised in the Macintosh Hills, and taught to always stand ready to guard and defend those who cannot defend themselves. And you are never going to break me."

 

A blue glow was seen, coming from inside of Axel's chest. He didn't change back into a bat pony, and he retained all of his powers, but his urge to feed was gone. As long as he was in this realm, he would be sustained.

 

"Boon." He said, turning to the changeling.

 

"Disguise yourself and follow me. I need your help with something of the utmost importance." Axel disguised himself as the full grown Nexus and flew off towards the center of the clan, determined to stop this like he should of all those years ago. He even got not just a chestplate, but a full set of the finest Night Guard armor, and a pair of high voltage hoof claws. The changeling in charge of this invasion may pull the strings but this was still his mind, and he still had some control. He made an electric contrail as he flew.

Nexus had stopped turning for the moment, but retained his current half pony half changeling form. He began to glow a strange ethereal blue.

Shocked at this changelings actions watching it shifted and approached the hunters while he himself hid behind some rubble watching the scene that was playing out before his eyes.

"Is this kid an idiot doesn't he know they have detectors he's going to get himself killed." Boon cursed under his breath thinking about just leaving him but changelings needed to survive and even if this one was strange he couldn't just let it die.

 

In the real world

 

The changeling was still hiding behind the wall of the hospital waiting for the two ponies to leave and was getting impacient it could feed from this far however it wasn't enough getting closer would help but it couldn't risk being seen and sooner or later more changelings were foing to notice how delicious those emotions were then it had an idea.

Big Mac came running up to them fear in his eyes yelling, "quick you gotta hurry the library is being over run by changelings you have to get over there quick ill look after this guy you guys go now!"

"Or we go with option C," He said hoisting the unconscious Nexus on his back. Dogboots knew that he was crazy to help Nexus who was already becoming a changeling or at least in the process of it.

 

"Get us somewhere safe! Once Nexus wakes up, we'll come up with a plan, but for now we have to retreat." He said with urgency in his voice.

Axel looked back to make sure he was be followed, and promptly ran head on into a squad of hunters. He fell a few feet before regaining control. 

 

"Hey, watch where you're going!" One Guard yelled.

 

"Sorry sir, I heard of a disturbance farther into the clan and was sent to investigate." The changeling lied. He couldn't get caught. Not now.

 

"What are you talking about? We are pulling out of there, the enemy presence is too strong." The Guard looked him over suspiciously, narrowing his eyes.

 

"Who are you anyway? I don't recognize you." A device they were carrying started to glow, and before you know it, Axel was bathed in the light, which dropped his diguise. One look was all it took for him to close his wings and freefall down to the lower level of the clan. He began flying again a few feet from the street, and immediately dove into a nearby house. He got down, listening for the Guards.

 

"He went this way!

Where? 

Over here!

WAIT, we got incoming!"

 

A fight could be heard outside, and luckily, it sounds like it the fight moved farther away. Axel breathed a sigh of relief, before looking up and seeing a family huddled in the corner of the room, eyes trained on the changeling. While his armor disappeared with the disguise, he still looked terrifying. There was a father, mother, and a filly.

 

"Woah, easy there, I'm not going to hurt you." Axel, tried to calm them down.

 

 

(You all saw nothing. )

Boon was horrified at what had just happened his mouth agape he was ustonished. No changeling had ever aposed hunters headon who was this Axel. He needed to get out of the hive why did he even come back? The evidence Virus had told him to burn the evidence but then this new guy shows up and acts like a complete nut case what was he even going in that home. Sneaking around to avoid being seen he arrived at the enterence peering in, "oh my im so sorry please excuse this one he's a few salivations short of a frree meal." The familly laughed a bit awkwardly and Boon yanked the reckless changeling into what looked like and allyway

"What is wrong with you!"

Axel was caught a bit off guard by the violent yank by Boon. He grinned at the statement.

 

"Nothing. In fact, I feel better than I have in years." He then remembered his situation. He still needed to get to the town center. But he had to do so quietly. He couldn't do anything of he was captured or killed.

 

"Listen, I need to get to the town center. Where the leader of this invasion is. I can't tell you why, but just trust me when I say it is for proper reason." He heard sobbing nearby, and went to investigate. He found behind some rubble. a little foal scared and sobbing. He didn't look hurt. Axel didn't recognize the little one. He tried approaching, but the little one cowarded. 

 

"Hey, it's alright. I won't hurt you. I am not like the others." Axel slowly picked up the child, using his new insect wings to balance himself. The child was still quite frightened. He hovered back over to Boon, hugging the child. 

 

"Boon, I think we may have to detour to find this child's parents." Axel gently put his horn to the childs head, and tested his memory reading spell. He drew back, a sullen look on his face.

 

"Never mind. He doesn't have parent. Not anymore. But we should still try to get him to safety." He continued to hug the kid, as he continued to sob. He wasn't as frightened, but he was still scared. Axel could relate to this kid. He knew what is was like to suffer loss.

 

(This is here to demonstrate that Nexus/Axel is not a normal changeling, to try to bring out some good in Boon/Parcel, and to add to the story so we don't jump straight to the climax.)
