Why is everyone still debating over this? Obviously It's NORMAL! TROLOLOLOLO

I mean, you've seen the proof up there! Why would Sylveon be dragon? What possibly has that design have any relation another dragon-type? :/ The proof is in the pictures above. They stick to their elemental types with the design of the eeveelution. Besides, when has ribbons and bows not have been good for a normal type?

Exactly, We won't know what Sylveon's type is until Game Freak tells us, which probably won't be a for a little bit yet.

But I think we're all misinterpreting the "evidence." Clearly, Sylveon looks sinister and evil, the one who trolls everyone while looking like it just smoked a ton of crack. That would make it the first dual-type eeveelution...

That typing is....

Fire/Fighting

And so is Fennekin -- *runs*

I'd just like to throw in my two cents regarding my observations of X & Y thus far.

The starters for this generation, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, appear to be dual-types based on their known moves revealed in the trailer. Each of them use an attack that reflects their known type, as well as a second attack that alludes to their second type. Chespin uses Solar Beam, and what looks like either Feint Attack or Night Slash, suggesting Grass/Dark. Fennekin's second attack is clearly a Psychic type move, suggesting Fire/Psychic. Froakie uses a Fighting type move, indicating Water/Fighting.

This is interesting in that it creates a second triad in terms of type effectiveness. After five generations of Pokemon, we know that Grass beats Water, Water beats Fire, and Fire beats Grass. With X & Y, the assumed second types of each starter actually creates a second triad. In this instance, Dark beats Psychic. Psychic beats Fighting, and Fighting beats Dark. This suggests that no matter which starter you pick, you will be at no real disadvantage against your rival's starter.

I have seen a lot of debate concerning Sylveon's type, and at this point I believe it to be a relatively safe bet to assume that Sylveon will be a Flying type Pokemon for numerous reasons. First off, ever since Espeon and Umbreon were introduced, players have been asking for a Flying type Eeveelution to complete an all Eevee team while still having access to Fly. Second, Sylveon is the lightest of all the Eeveelutions. Third, Sylveon's English, Japanese (Nymphia), French (Nymphali), Spanish (Sylveon), and Italian (Sylveon) name all support the theory of it being a Flying type. In each of their respective mythologies, Sylphs and Nymphs are generally depicted as air elementals and fairy-like deities.

The last topic I would like to touch upon is the prospect of a new Mewtwo form. I highly doubt that this actually a new Mewtwo form, but rather a new genetically engineered Pokemon similar to Mewtwo and Genesect. Game Freak and Nintendo have both stated numerous types that this is a new Pokemon, so I do not really understand where the assumption that it is a new form comes from.

Having a second type for the starters would be pretty cool.

Its interesting to point out that there is no common theme when it comes to typing the start Pokemon. Bulbasaur is Grass/Poison, Charmander is Fire, and Squirtle is Water. Ivysaur and Venusar stay the same, while Charizard gains the Flying type. Wartortle and Blastoise stay Solo-Water type.

The only generation that has consitency is Generation 2, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile never gain a second type, in all other generations, at least one of the Starters gains a second type.

The only starter that has 2 types from Get-go is Bulbasaur. It would be safe to assume Chespin, Froakie, and Fennekin will be solo types and gain an additonal type later.

Also, to be fair, the images we have seen are beta images, the final thing could be completely different. Just because a Pokemon appears to be using a certain move, doesn't mean it will be THAT move in Generation VI, I'd assume they'd be introducing new moves as well. That could also explain why there's no dialog indicating what attack is being used, to keep it secret. (The battle engine is probably mostly finished, since the text "A Wild Pikachu appeared" is displayed.)

With "Newmew," you're right, they keep saying its a new Pokemon. When Platinum came out and Giratina and Shaymin gained new fromes, they weren't new Pokemon, just new formes. Plus, they're choosing their words wisely, it is "related" to Mewtwo, it could be the same species, it could have the same backstory, or it could just be the same design.

  • 2 weeks later...

Marriland has released an update regarding the previously revealed Pokemon with a connection to Mewtwo, as well as more information and speculation about Sylveon. Check out the video below. As it turns out, Mewtwo will be getting a new form in X & Y, tentatively named "Awakened Mewtwo".
