movies/tv Darkest Moment in a Childhood Movie?

Hey everyone!

We all have one. That moment where we realize Bambi's mom isn't coming back or Mufasa isn't getting up. I want to know the movie moment that was scariest to everyone when they were a kid (or even an adult too I suppose!)

Me? Mine would be Clayton's death from Tarzan, where he accidentally hangs himself on a vine.

See, when I watched Tarzan, I was just getting old enough to grasp death, with The Lion King and what happened to Mufasa being the catalyst for this discovery, but I didn't grasp that immediately. This one, I did. And watching the baddie hang himself on-screen still gives me shivers to this day. So lets hear it! What movie scene terrified you the most when you were a kid? (Doesn't have to be death or Disney related, its just all of mine that I could think of off the top of my head are)

Half of Watership Down.

I love this movie, and I love the book, but daaaaaang. That movie is seriously twisted and messed up. The animation is good, but it's good in all the wrong places, like really capturing what it looks like to see a rabbit choking to death in a snare.

I just shuddered thinking of that scene. O_O

Also, the Brave Little Toaster was pretty freakin' dark too, come to think of it. O_e

When I released that Cruella Deville wanted to kill and skin little innocent puppies for fashion reasons. I mean, right when that clicked I was shocked Disney got away with that. But, man was it a good movie!

I wasn't a child when I saw this scene, but there was the many parents that had to explain to their children what was really happening. My parents told my brother, yet I don't know how he reacted to it. Either way, it still makes me wanna cry just watching the scene.

About halfway through the Neverending Story. Atreyu and his horse are working their way through the swamp. But his horse gets stuck in some kind of mud that pulls down through despair. You know how this kind of thing is always beaten with an uplifting speech and then everything is better than before? Yeah, not in this movie. Atreyu's horse, his companion since the beginning, sinks into the quicksand and dies.

Why don't kids' movies have much stuff like that anymore? It makes the movie so much more memorable.

It wasn't really a movie, and it wasn't one individual moment...but nothing was darker for me as a child than seeing all of my favorite cartoon characters trying to scare the shit out of a kid for doing pot.

This aired on all three major networks simultaneously. The very real result was that Saturday morning was never the same after this.

Anything by Don Bluth had the potential to be Nightmare Fodder. HIs movies had fantastic art direction.

Here's the scene where Charlie the Dog goes to hell. Starts at 2:00ish

That's ridiculous. Granted, smoking anything isn't healthy for you, but just eating cannibis? It's about as bad for you as eating apples.

We did manage to kill a rat with some during a lab once. We ended up using almost three pounds, and had to drop it on it from pretty high up.

Now, it's been a few years since I was a kid, so I can't quite think of anything that actually scared me. But I can think of a dark moment from a movie. The Great Mouse Detective, when they're in the toy shop. And since they're mice, many of the toys are huge, and the bat is also there sneaking around, until he finally jumps out. Just a bit creepy.
