Luckiest pony: Twilight Sparkle because as you said, she pretty much got her scholarship because of a sonic rainboom.

Unluckiest pony: Applejack because of the point explained above

luckiest: Twilight becasue She has the most important element, she becomes an alicorn princess, she's smart, good at magic, has her own dragon slave and she lives in a library

Unluckiest: Fluttershy because she is always being pushed around, she's a weak flyer, being shy isn't easy and Angel is always making her life a pain

Yes, but I don't think she was nearly as lucky as Twilight though, Twilight was handed more than any other pony at the beginning of her life while Rarity had to work her way up and for the most part make her own luck. We did see her get lucky a few times in the show though like in Sweet and Elite for example when none of her friends got angry with her for deceiving them by trying to attend two parties at once and when Fancy Pants called Twilight's dress "charmingly rustic" when he could have said it was the worst ever all the snobs in the room wanted one all of a sudden.

In every episode featuring her, Rarity was quite lucky. Even in simple areas like The Stare Master, her friends or the situation around her always meld to form the exact circumstance needed to save her butt. In The Stare Master, just when it seemed like all hope was lost, Fluttershy foolishly volunteers to look over the Crusaders. In Sweet and Elite, plenty, as you mention. In Sisterhooves Social, if Applejack wasn't conveniently around during Sweetie Belle's venting then Rarity would likely not have been friends with her sister for a long time after that - her friendship saved from beyond the point of no return! Moreover, in The Art of the Dress she also had Spike bring in Photo Finnish, not once, but twice! The only shortage of luck Rarity has experienced was during At the Gala, when really everything went wrong for her, indeed. However, Twilight often finds herself making the wrong assumptions and choices (Feeling Pinkie Keen, giving up on her argument to evil Cadence in A Canterlot Wedding), and a lot of other things. Not to say that Twilight isn't particularly lucky (I mean what are the chances over at the pilot?) but I'd still say Rarity is luckier.

Actually she does, she has a huge primadonna, prissy side to her which has caused her vanity to get a bit out of control in many cases. Her ego may be there for different reasons than Rainbow Dash's but it is still there.

And yet, all that gives her attention and more, and her primadonna side has never costed her anything. Not social status, not friends, not much of anything. Even in Look Before You Sleep, the one time her primadonna flaw costed her something, Twilight saved and created a strong friendship with Applejack (that continues even to Sisterhooves Social and beyond) by luckily noticing Rarity and Applejack from far away from her home, as we can see that she's yelling and they barely hear her.

Edit years later: A word!

I'd have to say the luckiest pony is Pinkie Pie.  She sometimes has problems, but they almost always work themselves out.  Pinkie is one of the most popular ponies in Ponyville which suits her extroverted personality perfectly.  And she has a very tight bond with not one but FIVE residents which is an incredible source of protection against her fear of isolation and being unwanted.

For unluckiest, I would have to say Fluttershy.  She deals with chronic phobias and a lack of confidence.  Being seemingly weaker than average only worsens her low self-esteem.  Fluttershy dealt with so much crap from her peers when she was little and she still sometimes has to face the effects of it today.

Twilight Sparkle deserves a special mention because she is both very lucky and unlucky.  She's lucky in situations where she is able to emerge as an ad hoc leader.  She is a very nice example of someone who demonstrates authority without being an authority.  But Twilight is unlucky because she's also very injury prone.  Her earnest efforts to help others often wind up with her getting physically hurt.

I'll just run through each of them and then give my opinion at the end.

Twilight Sparkle: Overall pretty lucky. She's come very far in the world since she was young. From powerless filly to Alicorn Princess, although there was a fair measure of work in there as well. She's very fortunate, as others work and grow incredible amounts but don't get the rewards she's received. However she's prone to getting punished by Dave Polsky the universe. Likely the luckiest.

Applejack: She's lost parents and been saddled HA! Accidental horse pun! with the burden of caring for her family and running a farm. Her situation could be much worse, but she's been through a lot of misfortune. Probably the unluckiest.

Rainbow Dash: Also picked on at flight camp, however her issues with it are less obvious than Flutters'. She has been left with a need to prove that she's the best and above criticism which has been a burden at times and is something I look forward to seeing her overcome. Was on the receiving end of one of the less morally sound lessons in the series (in my opinion), but overall she's doing well. Unluckiest after Fluttershy and AJ.

Rarity: Neutral. She's come far by her hard work and isn't particularly lucky or unlucky.

Fluttershy: Bullied as a filly, and still wrestling with issues to this day. She has her friends and animals to support her, and she has made some progress towards overcoming her problems. Possibly tied with AJ for unluckiest.

Pinkie Pie: Oddly both. She's pretty universally loved in Ponyville as we see in A Friend in Deed and Magical Mystery Cure but at the same time she has a tendency to assume the worst and to be horrified at the prospect of someone not liking her. She also has to worry about people not taking her seriously/underestimating her and becoming fed up with her and leaving. She's fortunate that she's so beloved, but at the same time her need to be beloved at this level is something of a curse.
