The Mane 6's social status

   So...despite being the heroines of Equestria on multiple occasions, the Mane 6 are often treated as normal mares that you'd see anywhere in Equestria.

   

    Now, I know that this is to maintain their relationship with the viewers, so we can relate to main characters who are average citizens, but still, it seems rather odd that the lone saviors of Equestria, besides Shining Armor and Cadance (Don't talk to me about C&L, because Celestia's only saved Equestria from dangers and threats a millenia ago, and Luna hasn't done anything to save Equestria without Celestia), they don't seem to get any recognition. Does the public even know about the Elements of Harmony?

It would appear as though if the public population did know about the elements, there would be much more corruption in the commoners.  That would be a good reason to keep it a secret I guess... but seeing as how the elements have saved everyone's flanks a bunch of times I don't see how they couldn't know about it.

Well, as for Celestia and Luna, they're the freaking rulers of the land, so, even if most of their heroic feats are in the past, I assume that they would get a lot of recognition. And considering that Cadance rules over the Crystal Empire, I figure that at least her subjects know about her, although it's clear from "Games Ponies Play" that plenty of ponies outside of the Crystal Empire know about her as well.

 

Now... why doesn't anypony recognize the Mane Six or acknowledge them? It's probably because of what you said. To be honest, I would've expected the pony who they thought was the games inspector to acknowledge that she was being greeted by the wielders of the Elements of Harmony themselves, not to mention the sister-in-law of a freaking Princess, but it's just the way it is, I suppose.

 

Either that, or the ponies that live in Equestria don't care about you unless you're either an Alicorn or rich, which none of the Mane Six were until the Season Three finale.

It would seem that they do their best not to play this up and to live as normally as possible. They never really reference their statuses as element bearers outside the premieres/finales, with the exception of Keep Calm and Flutter On. I'm not really sure how they manage to downplay something of that significance, especially when their defeating of Discord at least must have been pretty obvious. Oddly enough, people make a much bigger deal about Fluttershy becoming a model or Rainbow Dash rescuing a few citizens than their preventing eternal chaos/changeling invasions. It's somewhat difficult to believe that so many people don't know/don't care about this, and it'll likely be more difficult for me to suspend disbelief now that one of them is royalty.

I could make a joke about the plot holes in this aspect of the story but that would be redundant. *bud-um-pa*

 

I don't get the impression that its common knowledge outside of "those in the know" *that's what they get for not having Google in Equestria*

 

And one would think that after many ceremonies about saveing their collective rumps, someone *IE the writers* would get a clue.

Well, I think their social status is fine when they are interacting with each other and other ponies around them. They can be pretty social even when one of them is royalty, and they can still stay very unified. Basically, they can be social at anytime. Even in the finals and premieres, I could see them traveling around all of Equestria.

Since, as other posters have mentioned, at least a few of the mane 6 have archived acclaim for something other than being the bearers of the Elements. I have to think the writers have a consistent reason for not making them more acclaimed for saving Equestria. I have no clue as to why. They are almost treated as superheros in that nopony knows about their secret powers. It will be interesting to see how they deal with Twilight as a princess and her fame.

Well since Twilight its a princess now, we wont have to worry about that anymore, Will we?

 

Anyway I do have to agree. The Mane 6 social status should be a bit higher but I guess for the story sake; People just treat them like regular folk with no special benefits.

 

Otherwise you'd think the Ponyville's citizens would be a little bit more praising towards them.

I thought that they basically just avoided the spotlight and rally just didn't want to be public ponies.  At least that was my initial theory, and it certainly makes sense for Twilight, Applejac, and Fluttershy, who seem to be rather comfortable in their humble roots. 

 

... but then I thought there's *no way* that Rarity or Rainbow Dash wouldn't be playing this up to the max to inflate their egos/social standing. 

 

So I just think it's one of those things that you're just going to have to accept as a viewer and not think about it too hard.

The first time, I don't think it was common knowledge that they were the ones that saved Equestria.  But the second time they had a celebration to mark to occation.  No excuse there.  It could be that the residents of Ponyville know them as average ponies and don't give them special treatment just because they're heroes.

 

Its worst in Sweet and Elite.  Rarity and her freinds saved all of Equestria twice, and the elite ponies of Canterlot don't care?  I understand Rarity not bringing it up at first, but I think being one of Equestria's greatest heroes would be a good way to become a very important pony.

 

Remember when they asked who Rainbow Dash was?

 

The reality: she won the best young fliers competition and saved the Wonderbolts, not to mention all of Equestria two times.

The lie: she trains the Wonderbolts.

 

Gotta tell ya, the reality actually sounds more impressive.  And you'd figure somepony there would know who actually trains the Wonderbolts, but I guess not.

I've thought of this for a while as well, really can't explain why they don't recognize such heroes. My first thought was that they do know what they've done and they've already congratulated them and praised them but wasn't shown on the show, so they don't have to praise them every time they see them.

I do remember that everypony in Ponyville were celebrating for Luna's return in Friendship is Magic and were all focusing on Celestia, Luna and the Mane 6.

I think that pretty much all of Ponyville and Equestria know the good that they've done, but rather than treat them like celebrities and such, maybe they prefer to treat them like normal people because that's what they want. The only ones I could see who would really enjoy the huge crowds and be okay with it are Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and maybe to an extent Rarity.

 

I suppose that they are just treated down to earth because that's what they'd like to be seen as. Although this might change a bit with Twilight as an alicorn now.

Know how ya feel. I used to write fanfiction (and I still do from time to time) for a couple of years, but not in MLP. I wrote some stuff for Teen titans and mainly for Sonic the Hedgehog. I am thinking of doing something for MLP but I'm not sure yet.

Their social standing is whatever makes for the episode du jour. Most casual antagonists would've have the gall to knowingly...err...antagonize the Heroes of Equestria. Rarity isn't going to be embarrassed to be associated with people who have been immortalized in stained glass by a living goddess not once but twice. No noble is going to offend someone who has a direct line to his sovereign. Heck, someone as status-conscious as Diamond Tiara wouldn't want to be in a rivalry against the sister of a National Hero.

 

So, yeah, they kind of have to be the hicks from the sticks - however illogical that may be - if the show isn't going to be about a bunch of ponies who get sucked up to a lot.
