Midnight just stood there, padding the ground with her front right hoof.  "Alright.  If you insist" She said looking like she was sad to do this. My greatest strength is speed.  Might as well take the advantage. She was a blur of navy and neon blue and sprinted at Slicer, kicking his right side while going past and returned to her spot at the center of the arena.

Slicer laughed and quickly rolled forwards towards the center of the ring, dodging her attack. As he stood straight again he wasted no time in meeting her in the center of the ring, swinging one sword at her legs and swinging the other down at her head, still laughing.

Midnight quickly moved back, the blades missing her head and legs by inches.  She gasped seeing Slicer's reaction.  This guy is insane!!! She moved her head towards her leg to grab a knife.  Moving her head to the left, she absorbed energy to throw the knife.  Midnight lashed her head to the right and letting go; the knife spinning directly at the Pegasus's neck.

Rune could feel Swordpoint's pains and regret, it made him wish he hadn't brought it to light.  To have a special somepony, one pony that made everything right and soothes the pain.  That might be worth the whole world, but he had to remind himself it wasn't anypony to him and it could all be some farce. "I'm sorry for your loss, I really am.  But I've heard a great deal of Ponyesia in my researches and of it's rogue Princess, I'm sorry to say it but is it likely that she is already dead.  Nothing I have ever heard of Omnia has been fair or just.  Do you believe that if you complete whatever it is your task or wish might be that she'll return your friend unharmed?  I tried to research some of the old ruins of a small pony tribe with supposid powerful magic.  Rumor said Omnia had slaughtered them when making her new land. Though it's easy to say the locals didn't take kindly and I was forced to flee.  Your homeland is a particularly brutal one."

 

'I like the sound of this new princess. Maybe once I rip my new body free of you, I'll actually have a worthy neighbor'

 

'Neighbor?' Rune focused on something Swordpoint said earlier.  It clicked in his mind and he continued before Swordpoint could respond to his question, "You said before that the evil in me smelled like your homeland.  It should, because it was after I fled from there that the evil entered me.  I went to a nearby mountain that was thought to hide a forgotten temple of an ancient dragon king.  It wasn't forgotten... A cult resided there and now their primordial lord is in me wanting to get free and return to his kingdom."

Slicer tried dodging the knife but it ended up cutting across his cheek...nothing serious but he looked rather angry. "Alright then. My turn." He flew ad Midnight, holding both swords in hos hooves he slashed at her neck as a distraction as he stabbed at her chest with his other sword.

@, Standoff took a defensive stance, and started up his customary battle-banter. "Well, well, my reputation precedes me! I'm sorry to have to do this to one of my fans, but you happen to be in my way. It's nothing personal. By the way, that grenade is one hell of a lot faster than magic. I timed it."

"Well, now that we're talking. Let's talk about your little friend Pinkie Pie. She's just so innocent. It's a shame that you aren't there to protect her. Something bad might happen!" He pulled a small remote out of his coat pocket.

 

'That's it Roto!' Penny Pincher thought as he intently watched. 'Use the information I gave you. My money is counting ion it!'

 

 

Lite sighed, dusting herself off of some dust from before. She looked around the arena, smirking. She then looked up and at the announcer.

"Well, it seems my opponent has decided to forfeit! I believe that means I shall advance to the next round, correct?!"

The first arena Ref walked over to Nightfall. "Hold on! We still need a ten-count!" She said. "ONE... TWO..."

 

"BOO!" The audience cried. "Don't let him get away with a ten-count! Finish him off, Lite Shade!"

 

"Yeah! We want to see more blood!"

"Bad Dreams and Cosmo Shadesteel, you are In-the-hole for the second stadium floor. Await further instructions. You will be on deck shortly." The waiting room speakers said.

Bad Dreams ears perked up. How odd. She was next? Well, if she was going down, she was going down flying! She nodded at the waiting room speakers and started to stretch out her wings to await further instructions. She couldn't explain it, but perhaps joining in the tournament was a good idea. If she didn't get killed, that is.

Midnight jumped up to miss the stab to the chest, but the top katana lightly slashed her neck.  Fortunately, the cut was not bleeding or deep.  She jumped over Slicer to grab her knife and held in her right hoof.  She smiled and did a back flip onto his back, trying to cut off the feathers on his wings.

"Wow she's kind of fast." Silver said as he looked as the first match went onward. The one called Midnight had brought out a  knife and prepared to cut the wings off of her opponent..

 

"Slicer better move or else it's bye bye wings." Silver thought. The thought of losing your wings was one of the worst things that could happen to you.

Doubt flickered in Standoff's eyes for a moment, then he grinned. "Bluff. There's no way you could have explosives set up at Pinkie's, because you didn't know you'd need them. I didn't know I would be here myself until I got here. You had me there for a second, though." He quickly stomped the ground in front of him to test Roto's reaction.

Cosmo was watching Midnight try to give Slicer the Pegasus equivalent of a circumcision when he heard the announcement. "Sounds like I'd better get ready." Cosmo made his way down toward stadium 2. "I take it 'in-the-hole' means when Nightfall get his countdown I'll be up..." (OOC: right?) Cosmo caught a glimpse of Bad Dreams and didn't get the feeling she was exactly excited for the tournament. "Well now... Mercy may not be such a bad idea..."

She did manage to put a couple gashes in his wings...and it stung but he was still able to fly. He just grinned and spun his katana's around in his hooves. He started swinging around above his back as he flew up towards the sky, hoping to have Midnight fall.

"No. She is alive." Swordpoint pointed to an iron necklace around his neck. "She wears one of these as well. If I die... it explodes."

 

Swordpoint closed his eyes, feeling memories flooding back. "I nearly lost my life to a dragon, years ago, during my service to Omnia... It was the selflessness of a commoner that saved me. I know firsthand how dangerous these beasts are. You surely bear a great burden." He stopped in his tracks when something came back to him. Wait... we cleared those caves... there shouldn't have been any dragons left. Unless... Oh, dear.

 

Swordpoint stared gravely at Rune Breaker. "Do you, by chance, mean the cult known as the Neo-draconians? They were always somewhat of a thorn in Omnia's side. They made foul temples in caves all around the land. The royal guardians were tasked with executing them and destroying their sanctuaries." He pointed his hoof at Rune Breaker. "Obviously, we failed. But how...?"

Midnight moved towards the rump of Slicer's back to avoid the katanas.  She realized how high Slicer was going.  Before Slicer goes up high enough to kill her from jumping, she took out another knife with her left hoof and sliced at the stumps of his wings before jumping off.  She fell about 20 feet in the air.  She quickly put the knives back in the sheathes and landed.  Shock went up her legs, and she shook it off, waiting for Slicer to make the next move.

Doubt flickered in Standoff's eyes for a moment, then he grinned. "Bluff. There's no way you could have explosives set up at Pinkie's, because you didn't know you'd need them. I didn't know I would be here myself until I got here. You had me there for a second, though." He quickly stomped the ground in front of him to test Roto's reaction.

"Explosives?" Roto said confused. "No no no. You've got this all wrong. I had my way of picking you to be my opponent. Why do you think that I already know so much about you? You can get access to all kinds of treats when the right ponies want you to win. This tournament isn't exactly fair, that's what makes it dark. I know about her. I know where you live. I know where you're from. I even know about your friend Red Alert. You see, all I have to do is press this little button, and a signal will be sent to my twin brother. He's been watching Pinkie for quite some time now, AND HE'S BEEN RATHER ANXIOUS TO CUT OFF HER HEAD! So you see? I'm the one with the power now! Drop your weapon and get on your knees!"

 

"What are Roto and Standoff doing in there?" Topaz asked. "Could this be some kind of mind control? A telekinetic mind battle? Are they falling in love? Your guess is as good as mine!"

"Hostage abuse isn't exactly a moral tactic." Rail commented after Penny Pincher had told him his whole scheme. "Does Roto even have a twin brother?"

 

"Nope!" Penny Pincher happily replied. "It's all a bluff! But Standoff has no way of knowing that! I'll admit it's a dirty trick, but hey! When you're dirty like me there's only one thing you can do... Spread your stink! Heh-heh-heh!"

 

(Just an extra warning for those of you with "Good Guy" Characters. The Dark Tournament has a sort of anti-Karma system. If you spare your opponent or do something nice, the fans want you to lose and the tournament committee is more likely to make corrupt rulings against you.)

"What is Roto doing down there!" Penny Pincher demanded. "This isn't some game! Fortunes are on the line!"

 

"Oh, but I thought that with all that fan support Roto could beat anybody." Rail said calmly as sweat poured down Penny Pincher's face. "I hope you didn't wager too much of your money on that."

That's it... He thought. Just walk a little bit closer...

He looked as if he was about to hit the ground until he leveled out. "You're going to have to do more than that to get at me." He said. "Tell me Midnight...do you like cupcakes ?" He asked, licking the blood from each of his swords before getting into a fighting stance. "Do you ?"

"Uh... I don't want to sound like a traitor or anything... but maybe we should root for Standoff." An audience member commented.

 

"Yeah..." Another agreed. "GO FOR HIM, STANDOFF! WE'RE WITH YOU ALL THE WAY!"

 

 

 

 

"And there goes your precious fan support." Rail commented calmly.

@, Standoff took a half-step and stopped. "Wait. No, not now. No! Just..." He stood for a moment, and then started chuckling. It started as a low rumble and scaled up to a mad giggle. Then he shook his head, looked back to Roto, and spoke. "Vell, vell, vell. You look familiar. Now, Schtandoff has given me a little advice, und apparently I'm supposed to kill you. He varned me zat you've got zis little knife-sing, but I sink I can take you." Standoff stood loosely, completely different from a moment ago.

"Wha-What?" Roto asked surprised.

 

"Now it looks like Standoff is under some kind of mental strain!" Topaz announced. "I don't even know what to think of this crazy match! I just hope it gets violent soon!"

 

Roto leapt back to his hoofs and charged at Standoff with his sickle blade making two vicious, but clumsy slashes at him.
