In essence, her desire to fly was so strong that it was interfering with her CMC duties towards Terramar. Which is why it was so tragic that the idea of assistive tech was never explored. Actually, I thought that helped balance Sweetie Belle's bias towards the harmonizing heights, but also that this might also mean she was destined to spend time in Seaquestria, a place she fitted almost instantly into and is better suited to than the dry world. If the CMC were intended to be based at mount eris at some point in the future, that would suit two out of three of them, leaving only the question of why Applebloom might want to be there. ᚾᛖᚹ ᛚᚢᚾᚨ ᚱᛖᛈᚢᛒᛚᛁᚴ - ᚦᛖ ᚠᚢᚾ ᚺᚨᚦ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛞᛟᚢᛒᛚᛖᛞ

Well, yes, obviously somepony had to be biased to wards Seaquestria for the purpose of the plot. It's just that tying it so closely to Scootaloo's wings made her situation feel a good deal more tragic. I can't think of any plausible scenario where CMCs would relocate there on a permanent basis. I disagree; Scoots' has all the genetic advantages of being a pegasus pony - increased spacial awareness, increased 3d vs 2d thinking and so forth - but is held back by her inability to generate "lift" as well as "thrust". Here we see a world where that inability is not only negated but inverted - where another pegasus pony may instinctively reach for their magical ability, Scoots' requirement to rely on her wings alone let her instanty adjust to the underwater environment. Here, that environment IS the assistive technology Scoots' so deserves, an environment she is uniquely suited to. 1 hour ago, HedonismBot said: I can't think of any plausible scenario where CMCs would relocate there on a permanent basis. Queen Twi may consider them ideal ambassadors to the Hippogryphs, as they are a tightly knit team representing all three races of pony. Or Starlight might open a branch school there, and assign them there as teachers. 12 minutes ago, Splashee said: *Looks at Applejack flying as well* The only you say? The problem there is that their special talent is helping other ponies interpret their cutie marks, and hippogriffs don't have that feature. Though I suppose it might still be fun to have them pay that place another visit. Even if Scootaloo were to get her hooves on something to help her fly for real, that doesn't mean she'd enjoy Seaquestria any less than last time. Back on topic: with the kinds of electronics we've seen on camera (audio hardware, arcade games), one would expect that someone would have gotten around to inventing the [landline] telephone. Flurry mentioned drones - perhaps at least basic R/C vehicles might also be possible (I personally was flying R/C airplanes way before drones as we know them existed). I guess watching some genius invent some piece of technology that we take for granted (television, telephone, personal computer) could make for an interesting plot. I just worry that if they were to actually do that, it might turn out as some ham-fisted "technology bad" moral (there were a number of episodes of the Smurfs which did basically that). For all they are the "cutie mark crusaders" their real focus is on helping others find their true talents; for a pony, that probably involves a cutie mark, but we know that some cutie marks come from having a passion for something, not necessarily a one that translates into a career (I mean, zipperwhil has a puppy affinity, and Kettle corn has an affinity for Haikus - it has been pointed out that both Haikus and enso circles relate to zen buddism however) As we know by the time Luster Dawn visits the school of friendship and joins her own young six, the CMC are teachers at the school. I doubt they are still focussed on cutie marks, but would make sense that they are there to help the students explore a range of skills and aptitudes, rounding out their development and equipping them with the tools that they will then use to forge their future paths. While clearly they can't assist Hippogryphs with their cutie marks, they could do well showing the fairly insular race the wide range of skills, crafts, and arts available to them to explore now they are joined to the larger equestrian world - which would be doubled if there was a branch of the school there attended by the other races just as Twi's school was. ᚾᛖᚹ ᛚᚢᚾᚨ ᚱᛖᛈᚢᛒᛚᛁᚴ - ᚦᛖ ᚠᚢᚾ ᚺᚨᚦ ᛒᛖᛖᚾ ᛞᛟᚢᛒᛚᛖᛞ

I just realized something: If Applejack were to get one of those things (or something like it), it's very plausible that the power of flight would trigger her urge to compete with Rainbow Dash. It's also very plausible that her lack of experience with flight, combined with said competitive streak, would cause her to do something stupid and crash. That would make for quite an amusing story, don't you think?
Landi 600 November 16, 2020 Share November 16, 2020 I would love it if the show had technology based off of that of the 80s and 90s. The idea of having video game consoles, computers, and even phones is cool, but I wouldn't want the technology to be modern like it is in Pony Life. Having characters use smart phones and the modern day internet all the time takes away from the magical feel. Tech of the 80s and 90s however can be associated with a "magical feel" because of all the nostalgia that we have toward those times (Stranger Things is kinda an example of this). Plus, even though technology was growing in popularity during those times, there was still plenty of focus on non-tech related things, which would help the series keep true to itself. All this to say, I think it would've been great to have a retro feel, while keeping the fantasy theme. Altastrofae 937 November 16, 2020 Share November 16, 2020 Cell phones but not cell phones. Like you know the hologram Skype call using that potion in the movie? Something like that Apart from that I think light steampunk elements would fit well An important part of world building is making sure everything applies to a central theme. The reason Pony Life tech seems out of place is because it deviates from the pre-established worldbuilding And lore. If you took the same things but gave the basic concept a twist like the video call with the Storm King in the movie, you’d have something much more thematically accurate 2 We are not human beings having a spiritual experience We are spiritual beings having a human experience | signature by @Kyoshi

The series also gave us a number of examples of combining magic with technology - Tank's propeller backpack, the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, the rainbow projector thing from Rainbow Falls, Kerfuffle's prosthetic leg. Giving us more of that instead of fancier real-world technology would be fun.

At least one of the Nightmare Night episodes had a pony in an astronaut costume. Whether Equestria had been working on spaceflight technology or whether that was from some sci-fi novel is never explained, though Scootaloo's rocket scooter suggests that they have at least most of the technology they'd need for that. It could indeed be interesting to see ponies in space, perhaps with their equipment having a magical twist like Altastrofae was talking about.
