Yesterday I walkwd with a few classmates and overheard them talking about how mlp fans are weird and have mental illness. So in the pauze that followed I let one of them, a friend, "accidentally" see that I was on mlpforums, whilst taking care to have the ponies at the top in full sight. I watched his eyes to see when he saw it, and when he saw it, he's eyes flashes to me, gave me a small look of... Something, and looked away again. He hasn't mentioned it yet. Hopefully he thinks about why I would like "a stupid show for 4 year olds". >:3

- The first time purchasing a MLP merchandise. At Sunvalley Mall during the holiday season, I went to Hot Topic, which was crowded, and purchased my Maud Pie t-shirt. Boy was my heart racing when I was paying for it at the cash register.

- This isn't related directly to my bronydom, but at BABSCon, I was staring at a vendor and one guy standing next to me was looking down with his back bent and when his back went up, he put one of his hands up and accidentally struck me in the chin or cheek I can't remember. It was embarrassing because a lot of people were around me and they probably witnessed it.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

So, I'm revealing my bronyness in stages. First I only told Alexandra, the girl who got me into it. Then I was willing to admit it to Elijah and Brynn, just to bug them, because they don't understand it. And eventually, I was willing to admit it to Alan. Yes, Alan, the guy that is so openly brony that there's not a person alive who doesn't know that he likes MLP:FiM. Then I was able to admit it to Brianna and Aubrey, because I knew they wouldn't judge me. But after that, I kind of kept it hidden. Especially from my relatives. Not that they would judge me for it. They would just mock me endlessly. Kind of like I would to them if I found out something like this about them. XD We mock eachother in our family to show affection. But we don't always know when to stop. So I'd kind of rather they didn't find out. Well, for Thanksgiving this past year, we went to Alan's house, where he and I got to humming Find the Music in You. I don't know how much his parents know about MLP, but they at least didn't recognize the song. But both our dads recognized that something was up and started asking about what it was from. We refused to tell. So Alan's dad got out his phone with that app that lets you identify songs and asked Alan to sing it again. He started before he realized what the app was and started shouting random stuff into it. :P That one was close.

Later, I was talking to Geoffrey and my sister Hannah. We were discussing whatever random stuff, including favorites. I rattled off my favorites, conveniently skipping the favorite TV show. Geoffrey pressed the issue. :P I said, "Well, there are two that are tied. But you'll judge me for one of them, so Babylon 5." Geoffrey insisted that he wouldn't judge me, and said I should just whisper it to him. I did, and he said, "Oh, really? That's interesting. I knew Alan liked it, but..." And that was the clue that let my sister find out about it, with all sorts of glee on her face. I'm still not sure what to do about her knowing yet.

Edit: I just remembered one more, that was probably actually worse... I don't tend to worry about what I put on my Spotify starred list. Well, I was in the living room with some of my siblings, and we were listening to music from my Spotify starred list. Mostly Casting Crowns, Owl City, TobyMac, and One Direction. (Yeah, I like 1D too. I'm not a popular person. :P) My siblings know I like 1D, and don't have a problem with it. Anyway, my list was on shuffle. And I'd been singing along with my music. In the living room. With my four younger siblings, who don't know about my being a brony.
"Three months of winter coolness, and awesome holidays. We've kept our hoovsies warm at home, time off from work to play. But the food we've stored is runnin' out, an' we can't grow in this cold. And even though I love my boots this fashion's getting old... The time has come to welcome spring, and all things warm and green. But it's also time to say goodbye, its winter we must clean."

Thirty seconds in, I realized what I was singing and skipped the song, frantically thinking, What did they hear? What does that song say? How does it start? They won't recognize it, right? But did it mention ponies directly? Did it mention ponies?? I think I managed to cover it up, but I'm still not quite sure.

Edit 2: Another happened just today. I help coach my old Speech&Debate team with some of the other alumni. We alumni were coming up with award names for various competitors. I mean, during the year, we compete in actual competition, but at the end of the year, we give certificates to all of our team members, saying something about who they are. We were thinking of animals that could be compared to people. I mentioned ponies.
Sara: "Ponies?"
Me: "The My Little Pony Award!"
She thought I was joking. :P
Sara: "Oh my gosh, there was this one competitor [male name that I forgot] a few years ago, who actually got really into My Little Pony. Like, apparently there's this group of guys, teenage guys, who are really into the show, and they call themselves bronies... Yeah. It's really weird. But then, he was a weird guy, so..."
From that point, I started looking for places to make MLP references that she wouldn't get, but I couldn't find a good opportunity. XD

My classmates are really slow on the uptake. They've seen me draw unicorns, recognized them as unicorns, recognized the unicorn on my shirt, asked me if all these things are unicorns, got "eeyup" for an answer, and they still haven't asked about mlp. They just don't know... :/

People who aren't in my class are really quick about it, the people who recognized my shirt usually did so in around 20 sec of seeing me... :3 I'm still trying to get my classmates to notice, but they just don't. :/

Maybe they are really good friends (they already "know"); and are just waiting for you to bring the subject into the table.

Or maybe they do not care, or they could be "interwebz ignorants"

In either case, it would be a good idea for you to ask.

If they were waiting, you would be happier and they would not have to pretend anymore.

If they do not care, you would not care about drawing unicorns in class anymore.

If they do not know about Friendship is Magic, it is your duty to bring them into the herd.

I got dangerously close to causing one.

Back in mid-2011, I was a closet brony, trying my best to make sure literally no one knew. One day, I was creeping looking at my friend's YouTube feed, and I noticed that he liked a video titled School in 1 Word, a video that consisted of Pinkie Pie saying, "Boring!"

As I got into the taxi that took us to school the next day, I asked him, "Are you a brony?"

His response was among the lines of, "No! Why?" I then said, "Well, you liked that one video." He seemed flustered and fought back with, "So what if I liked one video? That doesn't make me a brony."

Thankfully, no one else in the cab knew what a brony was, so the conversation didn't last.

Little did I know that he actually was; he was trying not to show anyone.

Months later, I told him that a certain YouTuber we both watched was one, and he jokingly said, "Let's become one as well!" and promptly talked about MLP a lot. Three years later, nothing's changed.

Heheheh... They aren't friends, and they all think bronies are mad. I don't think I have much chance to convert any of them... :3

And I'm just drawing unicorns for fun, I'm getting sick of doodling nothing but swords. :/

I know how you feel. I draw alot of humanized ponies and theyre all over my binder, but everyone thinks its anime, but its not hard to see why they think that, it's definitely not as painfully obvious.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been on a school camp for the last few days, and I was wearing my Vinyl Scratch shirt all the time. Nobody said anything about it, until we were all just chatting in the group, and this friend of mine suddenly said: "I still think his shirt is completely awesome." Everyone looked at me and my shirt, and this guy started singing the MLP theme-song as a joke. I told him that that was closer than he thought. >:3 The guy who sung the theme song, was also the guy who I had shown mlpforums in passing, so I don't know whether he knows, or thinks I was joking back then. :/

Also, when I was at school, waiting to take a French test, I told the guy who liked my shirt that I had been drawing recently. He asked me what I had drawn, and I showed him the pony pics I had copied. While scrolling down all my pics to show him the drawings, He noticed that I had a lot of MLP pictures in my phone. He even said so. So I think he knows that I'm a brony now. He didn't make a deal out of it at all. :3

1) I was going to listen to some music and put my headphones on and I put the mlp theme song only to realized the headphones were not plugged in so everyone in my class heard it and it was in the middle of a class so I lost my phone that day..

2) I drew Twilight's cutiemark on the board once and the teacher knew what it was because of her daughter being a little fan and all and she went like 'who drew the stars of a pony's butt in my board?' ...everyone was looking at me

3) The teacher was talking about growing up and (by this time I just didnt care and had no shame since I've survived so many accidents before) I just raised my hand and said 'excuse me, but what if someone doesnt want to grow up just yet? What if i just want to sit in my bed eating candy and watching ponies all day? There's nothing wrong with that, in fact it would be 20% cooler than doing anything else!' By then everyone just did a huge facepalm and my best friends were laughing.

So, I was once having a normal day to day conversation with my dad when I was visiting home for the weekend. Just talking and instead of saying everybody, everypony slipped out. I continued because I didn't even realize it. He stopped me, asked what I just said and it finally hitting me, I backpedaled and told him I said everybody. He called me out on it and said I should probably take a break from the show for a bit

When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move,
your job is to plant yourself like a tree next to the river of truth, and tell the whole world
"No, you move."

One bout happened just now. Considering its the second to last day of school I havent brought anything except my tablet, which ive left on my desk. I went over to the computer in the room to put the finishing touches on my essay as my friend picks up my tablet. I dont really care about this or the silly remarks he makes about the sunset shimmer picture (whom he doesnt recognize) but this is where it almost happens, i hear my other friend ask "is that a my little pony?" (Even thouh its human sunset) my blood ran cold and i didnt answer and pretended not to hear him and just kept typing.

Another happened just today. I help coach my old Speech&Debate team with some of the other alumni. We alumni were coming up with award names for various competitors. I mean, during the year, we compete in actual competition, but at the end of the year, we give certificates to all of our team members, saying something about who they are.

XD

So, we gave out the awards on this past Saturday. Afterwards, I sent Sara the following e-mail:

So, now that I don't have to worry about actually getting the My Little Pony Award...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yhhgaQOl40

:P

That said, MLP:FiM wasn't designed to be a show for just little girls. When the Hub Network was first starting up, they wanted to take a bunch of old shows that had previously been mediocre and revamp them. Shows that hadn't been amazing enough originally to bring people in, but shows that hadn't driven people away either, and had potential. With MLP:FiM, they decided to take that even further. They didn't want a show like most little girls' shows. They wanted a show that the whole family would enjoy (including older siblings and parents). So they made real, three dimensional characters. It takes a little time to get to know them, but they grow and learn. The show does appeal to little girls, but it was never designed to appeal to /only/ little girls. :P

I got the following in response:

I've heard of this thing, Bronies. Seems like people get pretty into it...

Here I was, trying to tell her that I'm a brony, and I don't think she got it. XD Now I'm wondering if I should send her a screenshot of this post...

Like many people here I binge watch episodes on Netflix. Unfortunately I forgot my password to my Netflix account and so I had to use my father's. Then some of the family came over and we were gonna watch a movie. I got a new password but I forgot to sign out of dad's account so everyone saw in the recently watched playlist that my father had watched My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. They all stared looking at him weird but I intervened and let them know that I was the culprint.I never got any weird looks since I'm a female but my poor father was not very lucky.

Mom and brother are going to New York while my dad and I are going to our home away from home in Yellowstone. Anyways, I ask over dinner when I blurted out whether they are staying in manehatten not Manhattan. They just said what? I corrected and went on but it was embarassing to me because I knew I what I accidentily did.

MLP:FiM episodes.

Me and my brother share an account. (He rarely uses it, though. He also KNEW I was a brony once, but he forgot).

I haven't watched anything MLP:FiM related on YouTube except on incognito mode, and the episodes i watched were on Dailymotion..

I know that feel... :3

I even got spammed with mlp recommendations BEFORE I became a brony... ;-;

I have told quite a lot of stories here about awkward moments in class, but it turns out that no one cares at all. This one guy who knew told me he watched a little while zapping, and asked me how it all worked, so I began explaining about earth ponies, pegasi and unicorns where everyone could hear, and none even commented. The guy who asked actually listened with interest... :o I guess I was scared for nothing... :3

This is not as embarrassing. It was after school and a mom and a little girl were walking to pick up there child. Anyway the little girl had a twilight sparkle doll and she dropped and her mom said "Oh no you dropped your twilight sparkle!" I laughed so hard and everyone just gave me an awkward stare.

Back in high school i was watching pony videos on youtube and one of my friends saw and tried to spread it around school like an asshole. But everyone forgot about it in the same day but this dickhead came up to me and said "I heard you were watching my little pony in the library cam?" so i just replied with a blunt "Yes, now get out of my face I gotta go to track practice"
