So it looks like Machine Games are rebooting the classic first person shooter game wolfenstien. What's your opinion on it so far? It looks awesome in my opinion will be buying it :).

I'm looking forward to this reboot.

That sounds really cool, but remember that this is not the first time it was rebooted. I have played both of the reboots (They were both great games).

The first reboot didn't really have much to offer but it is fun if you're looking for something new to play.

Return+to+Castle+Wolfenstein+Operation+R

And of course the most recent reboot before the upcoming one..which was very fun and had some unique gameplay because of the unique abilities you could get.

Not at all interested, because none of the Wolfenstein games have been in the least bit fun or interesting. The first one I give something of a pass because it was the first of its kind and didn't have a cheat sheet of what not to do like later shooters, but that doesn't make it any more worth playing, just like the fact that Super Mario 64 wrote the rulebook for 3d platformers doesn't make it better than Super Mario Galaxy or Ocarina of Time pioneering 3d adventure doesn't make it better than Majora's Mask or Twilight Princess. Anyway, lemme catch the bus back from Tangentville. Without exception, the recent Wolfenstein games have been buying into the 2-weapon-limit-regenerating-health-unnecessary-cover-system-slow-movement-speed bullshit that's making me hate the current shooter market (pardon the french.) It's sad when my favorite genre, first-person shooters, which I love for its ability to provide fast, fun, tense action, is now not considered "up-to-date" unless it has design "decisions" (read as: flaws) that serve no purpose other than to inject unnecessary "realism" (massive quotes because the games actually seem more interested in systematically abusing the concept of realism) and remove fun.

Bethesda are were really doing a good job marketing for this game pre-announcement. The tweets they sent out teasing everyone with a couple of seconds of vaguely related, very abstract, images were brilliant. I've never played a Wolfenstien game though, I do remember one of the old Xbox games getting almost a 10 back when getting a 100% score actually meant something, so it must be a pretty decent series. The whole Nazi thing kind of threw me also, I've never really been one for alternate histories.

After watching one of the trailers I can't help but feel that it lacks... depth. It's probably a little early to say that though.

The previous reboot was enjoyable, but also pretty forgettable. To be honest, whenever I try to remember much detail about it I instead think of Singularity which I consider at least a little better, but also much more underrated.

Anyways, Bethesda is a relatively good publisher (read: not EA) though I don't know much about the development studio. On the other hand, I don't have a whole history with the series so I can't be subject to annoyance over a lack of faith to the original material.

I'm very much looking forward to this game! Operation Resurrection was my most loved game back on the Playstation 2 and although the 2009 reboot wasn't incredible I still felt it was a fairly good game.

I quite like the alternative timeline they're going for here and the fact that Besthesda are behind this gives me a lot of confidence. The last single player game they published was Dishonoured which was my favourite game last year so I have high hopes for this game. I was happy at the announcement there will be no multiplayer too, that means all the development is going into the single player! Something I'd like to see though is the return of being able to carry all the guns you want with ammo for each weapon.

The most recent Wolfenstein remake was nothing like that, it had badass things like time control and electricity shooting tesla guns.

And while Operation Resurrection did not have much to offer for gameplay it did not fall into many of the cliches I see modern shooters falling into.

If you didn't play it all the way through, I can see why you would think it unoriginal.

After all, you only get to fight those bad ass undead starting around half-way through the game.

I'm not talking about unoriginality here. I'm talking about the design of the gameplay itself. It's slow, it's lacks any sort of tenseness (probably not a word) and no matter how many undead there are or whether there are some interesting weapons or not, it just bores me. It may not go all the way on the realism bus (which I never said it specifically did, I said that shooters in general tend to do so) but it's still not very fun for someone who's used to DOOM and Half-Life and Painkiller. It's essentially like being given the power of flight, then finding out you can't go any faster than your normal running speed.

Man, I've just finished Wyatt's timeline. I can say that this game gave me hope that the modern FPS can rise from the saturation of generic COD style of glorified shooting gallery

Honestly, it's games like the recent Wolfenstein games; as well as the Bioshock and Farcry series that really give me hope for FPS games. Wolfenstein: The New Order was really quite the fun experience for me and I seriously need to give The Old Blood a try. :)

Should do I, it's incredible I haven't knew of that DLC until recently . Well, it doesn't matter, I'm a generation of consoles behind anyway :dash:

I keep forgetting that I own this one. :ooh: I bought Old Blood first and I really enjoyed that one, except for the really crappy final level. As an FPS though, it was very, very solid and quite satisfying too. I have heard The New Order is that, but just a whole lot more of it. So I really need to play it eventually.

The New Order is definitely a top notch FPS. The gameplay is great and varied, and the story is surprisingly good too. Speaking of which, KLAUS, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE!?

@,@@Steve Piranha, Old Blood is good. However, you may be slight disappointed in it after playing The New Order; I personally didn't find it as memorable. I personally would have preferred to have played Old Blood first then The New Order.
