just a pointer since i saw it mentioned somewhere.., unless your SUPER sensitive to motion, and get motion sickness easy.. 60FPS is a waste of time goal to achieve.

some games just can't do it regardless due to bad coding, and many are capped at 30 anyways.

don't waste your breath on wanting or thinking you need that. its far over rated.

IMO 30 is a bit low, but 35+ is smooth sailing, and given most games have "motion blur" in them these days, 30-35 fps actually provides that on its own (though hardly noticeable unless you seek it) and is probably why more games are being locked at 30 fps (despite this lock often causes other issues such as screen tears on some systems).

hell, movies/tv shows are recorded at 24, and older tv's couldn't even get past 30. No one complained there... only real difference in new tv's is the additional waste of more refresh, and the higher resolution picture (when your up from 640x480 though, anything is HD by comparison)

and lets not mention the 120 refresh ones, its a scam where the TV "adds" frames to the picture.. not real...

as long as your monitor refresh is keeping up, turn of motion blur, get a few extra frames, and just have fun! MOST normal eyes won't know the difference.

The main reason for motion sickness isn't even because of framerate, it's because most console ports lock the FOV at painfully small angles (I would know, I've had a problem with it before). The reason people say to get around 60 FPS is so it doesn't drop below 30 during parts with hundreds of actions on screen. A laptop that can run Far Cry 3/Metro: LL/ Crysis at 45 FPS peak is going to be around 20 during the action-heavy parts of the game.

The reason people say to get around 60 FPS is so it doesn't drop below 30 during parts with hundreds of actions on screen.

Not the reason usually given though when brought up. And yar forgot about the locked FoV part. Some get motion sick from exceedingly high framerates too, and others from low framerates and the blur it causes.

Usually the excuse is needing the extra speedy FPS in MP for "twitch" reactions..

but most DEMAND that it is 60+, not around. And thats just being excessive.

TBH though thats why its best to benchmark it and test run settings, if it does get that low than knix a few things.

but TBH can't say i've seen it drop below 25 (still playable) and most games avoid heavy scenes as such in the active gameplay for this reason. going back to consoles topping most titles at 30 FPS.

most titles are as such tested to run at the 30-40 stable like these days.

some even put up false resolution upscales (Halo 3 being one) just to keep the framerate.

Others cut FX from certain scenes (such as shadows and lighting) to maintain the framerate.

Skyrim being a fine example of many cut or in/out FX between indoors and outdoors. Even a few possible items locked out by default to maintain decent framerates (such as torch shadows)

Ubi tried that on the PC once with GRFS, but of course PC users being a bit more technical in our knowledge... yeah.. didn't last long tongue.png

thing to remember though is even if you can run extreme graphics game A at 60, don't expect low quality game B to run the same.

Its all in the optimization and developer's level of having coded the game to work.

WAY to often is there the excuse "I can run Crysis max at 60FPS so why can't i run this game the same!?"

Hell, its a joke now about the idiots that when about claiming they could run WoW maxed and actually believing they could run Crysis as such back when it released!!

tbh some people still do that... oye.

Like I said, you do have to look for deals and such. But here in the States $600USD (which is the equivalent of 400GBP) would not get you anything new that would qualify for gaming purposes. The rig you describe could not be bought new for the budget of $600.

However I have been building computers since I was 7 and I have great faith in eBay, Craigslist, and second-hand computer stores. But you will have to do some shopping and bargain hunting in order to get a gaming rig for this price. It is completely possible, my brother has put together a (relatively, to me) impressive machine for probably under $300. But he had to buy each part one at a time, when he found good deals.

CPU $100 (not thte exact smae but still 6 core: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1154267&CatId=4433

MoBo $70:  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130634

Memory $60:  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

Vid Card $100 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150661

PSU: $80  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139048

HDD: $60: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

Monitor: $80 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009383

Tower: $35  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811233039

all the parts inside the case are pretty close to what My PC has.

and he's left with $15 he could cheap out some spots to better other components as well.like less ram for better MoBo.

or maybe he has a monitor already, more money for other parts.

and he could probably get a  Keyboard and mouse combo from a friend.
