Less Derpy?

@@pinkiefan1287 If there were some kind of "Brony committee" or something ridiculous like that that dictated what the fandom focuses on, then I suppose you'd have a fair point.  But the problem with your argument is that the "fandom" focusing on Derpy really isn't indicative of some kind of problem permeating throughout the fandom.  It just means that a lot of bronies out there have made the conscientious decision themselves that they love Derpy and want to express that love.  I mean, I for one know that I don't love Derpy because a lot of other people do; I love her because I do truly find something endearing about her.  So no, with all due respect, I have to disagree with you that there's some kind of "problem" with how much attention Derpy receives, simply because, to reiterate, this is not some kind of concerted effort being made by a united body of people, but rather, just A WHOLE LOT of individuals choosing of their own accord to devote a lot of love, passion, and attention towards one beloved character.  That's just how fandoms work and people behave, and there's nothing wrong with that no matter who the character is as far as I'm concerned.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

That's kind of sad in all honesty, and interesting design you say? Gray pony with a blonde mane and bubbles. Now while this is a matter of taste, I'd understand this a lot better if you had said Vinyl or Lyra.

I am a Brony. I love being a Brony, Twilight is best pony.

I do like Derpy as she represents the relationship between the fandom and Hasbro or whoever writes/ animates the episodes.

I don't think we need less of her nor do I think she needs more. I don't know if giving her a episode would even be a good idea because as someone stated "If you give one background pony attention; you have to give the others attention too.

That would derail the focus off of the mane 6 which is bad. Derpy has always been best on the sidelines and that's where she should stay. Luna Eclipsed showed us exactly how they should handle Derpy and in my opinion is the best way to do it.

Also regarding Derpy's popularity among the brony community. She's not exactly overrated because everyone is overrated.

The day Derpy gets an episode is the day I sell my game collection

That said, I think it's best for Derpy to do what she does best and stick to being the Waldo of the show

I can't see anything coming coming out of her getting bigger roles without

A - The inconcievable amounts of fans complaining about pandering

B - The inconcievable amounts of Soccermoms complaining in general

Derpy should stay as a creation of the fandom and a Background pony in the show and nothing more

I'm really not bothered at all with how much love Derpy is given. She's adorable, is funny, and overall, it's just nice to look in the background and go, "Hey, there's Derpy!". It's not such a bad thing, and I don't get why people hate on her for it. One of the things that got me into this show was the fact that people put personalities to background characters. I just thought that was so unique. And yet, some people hate the fact that we give a cross-eyed pony a character! I don't think that there will ever be an episode about her, even though that would be cool. I just love Derpy. And I think the person put Derpy in that video because they probably just like Derpy. People read way to far into this whole thing. She's cute, she's cross-eyed, she loves muffins, and she's a background character. Okay? Okay.

Don't think I'm angry at you, or I'm hating on you, but really. It's a cartoon for pastel ponies and the fans love a background pony. Please don't attempt to read more into it than that.

It's kind of ironic how everyone constantly complains about how overrated Derpy is, yet I'm seeing Derpy get more hate and complaints then love. I've lost track of how many threads like this have popped up on this forum alone.

No, Derpy isn't over-rated. At all.

Whilst Derpy isn't my favorite background character, I do think she's the most important. She was the first background character the fandom really noticed and gave a personality to, which has since become a kind of tradition and is a pretty big part of the fandom.

The fact that the production staff noticed Derpy's fanon, acknowledged it, and actually made it canon is incredible. It sealed a interesting relationship between the production staff and the fans that's very rarely seen, and I think that it was an interesting development, not only for the MLP fandom, but for fan culture in general. It's very rare for fans to actually have an impact on a TV show that's this direct, even if it is a very small impact, and I think a lot of people are starting to forget that.

And the best thing about all this, is that she was born out of mistake. If it wasn't for that one mistake, or for Derpy, I think the fandom would be very different.

She's also adorable.

That's what's wrong with her if you want to ask me. She's "awesome" you say? For doing what exactly? Standing in the background doing nothing of significance? Being the "Where's Waldo" of the show?

I can't speak for everyone but although I like the Where's Waldo aspect of her character and it is nice having the occasional fandom nod the main reason I think she is awesome is not because of what she has done or not done but because of what can be done with her character. Derpy has a great deal of potential as a character to teach that is okay to be different and that we all have our quirks and need to be more accepting and tolerant of each other. She has not been confirmed one way or another to be retarded as that was only assumed by angry parents, but with her derped eyes and clumsy behavior it is easy to see why she would be singled out.

Many fans including myself can relate to this because many of us for various reasons were singled out for being different. In my case I was singled out for having Autism and often taken advantage of due to my socially awkward tendencies and difficulties interpreting social rules and cues. I think we have come a long way into accepting others differences but still have a long way to go, these parents just assumed Derpy was an offensive stereotype toward the disabled without even bothering to listen to the opinions of the people they claim to speak for which I find very insulting, disrespectful and hypocritical.

Derpy is adorable and there is no reason to hide her. The thing I don't understand about people being offended by her is they say its offensive to show someone that isn't perfect? She isen't perfect, she makes mistakes but everyone still loves her. I think its more offensive to try and hide or keep anyone with any handicap mental or physical locked up. Might as well say "Kill off all handicap people so we don't have to see or deal with them anymore." Which is just stupid.

Derpy may be a bit overrated, but she is also the most loved of the background ponies because of her nature and appearence.

The fact that the writers use her as a joke and that she is famous towards bronies, she is massively loved by many, in the terms of just anyone can like her.

Derpy is an adorable shout out to the fans. What is there not to love about that? Sure, some people did go overboard when she got booted, though the reasoning for her getting booted was complete idiocy in a blender with stupid.

One of my personal favorite things about her is the simple joy that she brings and it reminds me why simple pleasures are my favorite pleasures in life. When I see her in an episode, Derped out especially (given that her being Derped out is the obvious shout out), it fills me with joy. Why? I am not sure really. It could be that it is a shout out to us, the fact Derpy is cute, or whatever, it could be anything. Really, why I love Derpy is hard thing to explain. It is just one of those things that goes hand in hand with the show at this point and I am very happy that they have brought her back. Just seeing her in the background, it really makes me smile, even more than just the episode itself, somehow. :P

So, I don't think she is overrated. Why would she be? It is something simple to appreciate and that is always a good thing. It is just one of the many, many things about this show to be passionate about and given how great the show is, I'd say that is a good thing. Plus, you just cannot argue against the fact that the fandom basically created her. That has to say something.
